    • Per the article in Stirpes Magazine, Wilson Strickland, born 1807 died 1847, is sometimes listed as a fifth child of Rachel and Barnabas. However, this would extend Rachel's childbearing over approximately 30 yeares. Additionally, Barnabas did not include Wilson in his will when he listed his children while a nearby Jacob Strickland will referred to his son Wilson whose age roughly corresponds to that listed for his Wilson.

Many Strickland researchers claim Wilson Strickland as a family member. he was supposed to have been from Tennessee. It appears that he lived for a time in Georgia and then eventually settled in Texas, arriving as early as 1829. He served in the Texas military and Texas Rangers during the 1830s and was granted a large tract of land in what became Montgomery County. Supposedly he gave a man named Allen Vince a document deeding his land to him as part of a loan in 1838. Strickland dissapeared shortly after that and Vince eventually took over the land. However, rightful ownership of the land continued to be disputed. In 1931 oil was discovered on the land. The land was leased by Humble (now Exxon) Oil Co. and a lawsuit occured during the 1930s where 5,000 people claimed to be descendants of Wilson Strickland. To the present, the case remains unsettled as people still try to prove their right to part of the fortune which is in the tens of millions of dollars.
