    Notes
    • At the time of the 1900 Sabine County Census, a Bu?? Ashmore of this same age, husband of Senora and father of five, was living next to Elizabeth Ashmore Hyden. He was shown as born in Oct. 1858 in Texas, with his parents born in Alabama and Texas. Might Bu?? and James Spencer be the same person?

Some online trees seem to confirm this, showing that he married Sanora Lambert, and that they were the parents of Walter, Nettie, Anna, Charles and Tommy.
    • (Research):John W. Clark shows that he married Sonora LAMBERT.
