| Morlas Dairy, 2220 Calhoun Street, New Orleans According to Simone Morlas of Marrero, the Morlas family home and Dairy in this photo "were shared by Bertrand Morlas Sr. (born in France) and his nephew, John Dominic Morlas (born in New Orleans), and their families." Between the two families they had 19 children--some of whom are shown in this 1898 photo. A few years later, they each opened their own dairies, Bertrand operating "The Calhoun Dairy" from the 3200 block of that street and John Dominic operating "La Belle Creole" on the 6300 block of South Claiborne.

| Morlas Mausoleum, Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans Status: Located; This mausoleum was erected in the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans at the death of John Dominic Morlas in 1923.
It also became the final resting place of his wife, Lucine Roquevert, and their children: John Louis & wife Antoinette (Trapani) Morlas, Clothilde & husband Leon Bordes, Estelle & husband August Trapani, Louis & wife Lenora (Christoffer) Morlas, Leopold "Paul" & wife Olie (Roberts) Morlas, Vivian & husband Eugene Schoenfeld; as well as the resting place of several of John Dominic's grandsons; John Louis (I) Morlas Jr., Bertrand C. Morlas, John Louis (II) Morlas Jr., Sylvan "Brother" Bordes and Eugene "Jim" Schoenfeld, Jr.
More so than any city this side of Paris, New Orleans is renowned for its historically significant and ornate necropolises. One of the parish's most unique "Cities of the Dead" is the eerily beautiful and diverse Metairie Cemetery. Built over the old Metairie Race Course, the cemetery was founded by Charles T. Howard. According to legend, when Howard was not allowed to join the country club that owned the track, he vowed it would become a cemetery. Many other famous Louisianans are interred here, in structures ranging from Gothic crypts to Romanesque mausoleums to Egyptian pyramids

| mtDNA results for, Mary UNKNOWN, the wife of Daniel Morgan Haplogroup HV results, from a direct female descendant Daniel Morgan's wife Mary. The mtDNA came from the following line of descent: Mary; Elizabeth MORGAN (daughter of Daniel and Mary); Sarah Jane JONES (daughter of Elizabeth and Sion JONES); Ida JONES (daughter of Sarah Jones and Henry Cochran JONES); Private (daughter of Ida Jones and Charles GIBSON); and Private (granddaughter of Ida Jones). It was hoped we could prove that Mary's maternal line was Native American, as has long been rumored. However, the HV Haplogroup is considered to have Western European origins, and is in fact one of the most common mtDNA signatures found in Europe.

| O'Neill Home Duncan, Oklahoma Born in Ireland, John O'Neill made his fortune in cattle and banking. He built an imposing house in Duncan in 1902. Much of the material used in this house, including the large cedar beams, was hauled by ox-pulled wagons from Gainesville, Texas. For a period of time the west upstairs bedroom was used as a Roman Catholic Mission. (Goins, C. R. & Morris, J. W. (1980) Oklahoma Homes Past and Present University of Oklahoma Press: Norman) At the time of the 1910 census, he was listed as having an "independent income." John and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Payne, were the original occupants of the home, along withe their daughters, Byrd and Annie. | O'Neill Sisters, ca 1907 This photo was sent as a postcard to Mr. and Mrs. John O'Neill from their daughter Bird. It was postmarked from Concrete, Colorado, and was dated 11 January 1907. The message read "Do you know your baby daughter in this grown up picture? Bird." Bird is seated on the right, and it appears that her older sister Annie is standing to the left. They appear to be in old west costume, with the photo probably taken as a novelty.

Bird O'Neill was a graduate of the Catholic seminary at Guthrie, but had spent most of her life in Duncan. She died in a sanitarium at a young age, apparently from a rapidly spreading melanoma. At the time of her death, she was survived only by her sister, Annie O'Neill (Mrs. J.R.) Sparks.
