    Notes:

On the 1950 Census, he was shown as a logging superintendant at a saw mill.

Find A Grave, Memorial ID 54708446, shows him as a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sandifer. He appears to have been married twice, first to Edna L Gerald (1883-1917) and later to Vernon Gupton (1890-1973).

John married Vernon "Vernie" Gupton before 1922. Vernon (daughter of Wesley Woodford Gupton and Clara Drucilla McCaa) was born on 8 Jan 1890 in Mississippi; died on 24 Nov 1973 in Jackson County, Mississippi; was buried in Easthaven Cemetery, Brookhaven, Lincoln, Mississippi. This matches the 1900 census, show her born in January 1890 in Mississippi. The SSDI instead has her DOB as 8 January 1889. Her last residence on the SSDI was shown as Pascagolua, Jackson, Mississippi.

  1. 4.  James K. Sandifer was born about 1837 in Copiah County, Mississippi; died about 1921.

    Notes:

A contributor to FamilySearch shows that James was in 36th MS Inf. Co. A per MS Confederate records. In www.civil-war.net I found a J.K. Sandifer in 1st Regement Miss. Inf. State Troops (King's) in company B as a Private.

    Sandifer Rites Held Thursday
Wife of Late Confederate Soldier Was Mother of McComb Resident

Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Sandifer, 89-year-old mother of Bob Sandifer of McComb and wife of a late officer in the Confederat army, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Hartman funeral home chapel in Brookhaven.

Burial was in Hollywood cemetery at McComb where Mr. Sandifer has been buried since his death about 20 years ago.

Mrs. Sandifer died about 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of a son Norse Sandifer, at Silver Creek, Miss.

She had been in fair health during a visit in McComb about six weeks ago but about a week ago her condition began to decline.

Officiating at the last rites were the Rev. J. B. Hunt, assisted by the Rev. W. S. Cameron and the Rev. Charles Daniels.

Formerly Nancy Reed, Mrs. Sandifer was born at Wesson, Miss., and about 60 years ago was married to James Sandifer.

Surviving besides the sons at McComb and Silver Creek are one other son John of Quinton, Miss.; one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Cunningham of Annison, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Mollie McCullough of Los Angeles. Calif, Mrs. Belle Davis and Mrs. McCollum of Trout, La.

Also, 23 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren survive.

McComb Daily Journal 8 August 1941, Friday Page 5

Family Search shows her parents as George Washington Reed and Margaret J Ferguson.

    Children:
    1. 2. John L. Sandifer was born on 14 May 1880 in Mississippi; died on 19 Feb 1961; was buried in Easthaven Cemetery, Brookhaven, Lincoln, Mississippi.
    2. Robert Henry Sandifer was born on 3 Jul 1884 in Mississippi; died on 27 May 1961.

  3. 6.  Wesley Woodford Gupton was born on 7 Nov 1857 in Union Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi; died on 1 Nov 1929 in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi.

    Notes:

On the 1900 Jackson County, Mississippi Federal Census, Wesley Gupton is head of household living with wife Rena (b. March 1877, age 23, Married 8 years, mother of 2 children, both living). This would put the year of her marriage around 1892, at age 15. Wesley was a farmer, and his wife and both daughters were listed as farm laborers.

It is assumed she is the stepmother of Mary (born 1884) and Vernon (born 1890)...and those MAY be the two living children she is shown as the mother of on the 1900 census.

Family Search shows Wesley Woodford Gupton as a son of William Wesley Gupton and Flora Patterson.

Wesley + Clara Drucilla McCaa. Clara was born about 1859 in Union Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi; died about 1891 in Union Church, Jefferson County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
