Thomas married Melissa Lurani Tillman on 23 Jul 1873 in Copiah County, Mississippi. Melissa was born on 1 Aug 1850 in Copiah County, Mississippi; died on 29 Apr 1892 in Shelby County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Jack Peters shows her as a daughter of Thomas Tillman and Mary Elizabeth Ellis. He also shows that she died on 29 Apr 1892 in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas. Blanche Green Phillips shows this same information.
Melissa Lurani, however, appears to have been listed on the 1900 census in the household of Thomas Jefferson Cammack (Mal???? Cammack, wife, age 59, mother of 4 children), but her name was also lined through on the census, perhaps to indicate she was deceased?

Among their neighbors at the time of the 1850 Copiah County, MS census were numerous Herrington families.
Shirley W. Brinkley writes that the obit. for Jas. D. Cammack indicated he was a Mason and member of the Methodist church. The Poplar Springs Cem. was originally begun as a private cemetery on the old home place of Jas. D. Cammack, and is 2 1/2 miles s.e. of Crystal Springs on Harmony Rd, 1/4 mile to the location of the former home place.
