Kenneth "Joe" Conn was born in La Plata on September 13, 1930. He passed away peacefully on June 18, 2014, in Springfield, Missouri. Joe's beloved wife, Mary Jane, preceded him in death in January 1996. He is survived by his three children (Debra Wilburn, Joan Petty, and Gram Conn), and eight grandchildren (Larry, Kenneth, and Jodie Wilburn; Connor, Hudson, and Makayla Petty; and Travis and Hunter Conn), and six great-grandchildren.
Joe was a Navy veteran who served his country during the Korean War. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Stephen F. Austin University. Joe taught agriculture and science at Hemphill High School, and served as a sales representative for Ralston Purina.
Since 2004, Joe lived in Springfield Missouri. Joe loved singing, His Lord Jesus Christ, and the anticipation of being reunited with his wife Mary Jane in heaven.
Visitation is scheduled Friday, June 20, at 2:00pm, at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas. Funeral service will follow at 3:00pm in the chapel of Starr Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Gravelhill Cemetery near Hemphill.

Mary Jane Conn
Mary Jane Conn, 53, of Hemphill died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1996, and was pronounced dead at the emergency department of Sabine County Hospital.
Born May 21, 1942, as a daughter of the late T. J. and Irene (Speights) Jones, Mrs. Conn was a lifelong resident and an active member of First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and taught at Hemphill Elementary several years before retiring due to health reasons.
Survivors: husband, Joe Conn of Hemphill; two daughters, Jon Petty of Springfield, Missouri, and Debra Wilburn of of Vidor; two sons, G. B. Conn of Orange and [brother-in-law] Al Fecteau (sic) of Diboll; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Jimmie Nixon of Canton and Patricia McBride and Karen Neal, both of Hemphill; two brothers, John Thomas Jones of Aruba and Robert "Pud" Jones of Hitchcock.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Hemphill with the pastor, Bro. Bob Arthur, officiating. Interment followed at Gravel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

Melissa "Candy" Gayle Rueffer, 70, passed away in her home Sunday afternoon. She was born in Dallas, Texas, to Amber and Vivian Adams Crenshaw. She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and she worked at Saint Joseph Hospital in Houston. She moved to Hemphill in 1971 from San Augustine and worked in the Jasper Memorial Hospital and the Sabine County Hospital. Candy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill.
Candy is survived by her husband Martin Rueffer of Hemphill, her daughters; Colleen Conn and her husband G.B. of Whitehouse, Texas, Meredith Dubose and her husband Dan of Hemphill, Texas, Deidre "DeeDee" Murphy and her husband Brandon of New Fairview, Texas, Morgan Ambrose and her husband Bill of Dallas, her sister Amber "Cookie" Guy and her husband Lynn of Lindale, Texas, grandchildren; Travis, Caleb and Meghan, Hunter, Miranda, Jacob, Kendall, Chase, Wesley, Benjamin, and great grandchild Conner.
Visitation will be from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, Wednesday, December 3, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 4, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Milam Cemetery, Milam, Texas.
