2. | Thomas Dickerson McLemore was born on 5 Oct 1857 in Scottsboro, Jackson County, Alabama (son of John W. McLemore and Rebecca McKinney); died on 24 Apr 1963 in Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. Notes:
Art McLemore of Aledo recalls that his grandfather, Thomas,"told me when he was a child he remembered the Yankees coming through Alabama and taking his grandfathers shoes." Thomas also told his grandson, Arthur, that he had been born in 1857 in "Scottsburg, Alabama." He listed his brothers as John, Henery, and Will, and sisters as Jane, Sarah, Nancy and Hattie. He said his father was John McLemore, or Knoxville, Tennessee, and his grandfather Henery McLemore, "originally from Ireland." Art also shows his grandfathers middle name as Dickerson, not Dickeson, as shown on his death certificate below.

One of his grandson, Arthur B. McLemore of Aledo, Texas, notes that they also had a son Dan---and Dan McLemore was the informant on the Death Certificate for Thomas Dickeron Mclemore--perhaps he was listed by a different name on the census enumerations?

4. | John W. McLemore was born in Feb 1836 in Alabama (son of James "Henry" "Henery" McLemore); died about 1922; was buried in Gross Cemetery, Scottsboro, Jackson County, Alabama. Notes:
Patrica Mills writes that "John W. McLemore applied for a Confederate Pension - Alabama Pension number 13793. He enlisted as a private at Dodsonville Jackson County, Alabama in July 1863, discharged August 1865. His commander was Captain Gabbett. Witness to his application were Duffey and J. Evans. John worked at Salt Peter Cave mining Salt Peter for gun powder. In order to deprive the Confederate Army of this vital raw material. Union Soldiers attacked the workers at the cave. According to one of the Confederate Commanders, the group retreated to Big Springs in Marshall County, and later to the Warrior River in Blount County and worked for the CSA both placed. Their Commander was the Captain Baggett (or Cabbet). There are many records of work mining Salt Peter at the cave and its importance to the Confederate Army. It was carried by mule drawn wagon to Selma, Alabama where the gun powder was made and stored. The skirmish at the cave and its capture by Union forces is also recorded."
Census records show he was born in Alabama, however, in a note dictated by his son, Thomas Dickerson McLemore, to his grandson, Arthur McLemore, in the 1950's John McLemore is shown as of "Knoxville, Tenn." Perhaps it is the grandfather, who was born ca 1850 that was of Knoxville.

8. | James "Henry" "Henery" McLemore was born about 1805 in Tennessee. Notes:
Patricia Mills notes that his first wife, currently unknown, she was said to have died ca 1848 in Jackson County, Alabama. He later married Nancy Coburn (nee Dunham).
In a note dictated by his grandson, Thomas Dickerson McLemore, to his great-grandson, Arthur McLemore, in the 1950's , he is listed as "Henery Mc.....originally from Ireland." The 1850 census shows him as James McLemore, born in Tennessee. However, those same notes of Thomas Dickerson McLemore show that Tom's father, John was of Knoxville, Tennessee. Perhaps he was confusing the places of birth of his father and grandfather. Also, Thomas Dickerson lists his brother James as Henery, and also his grandfather James as Henery. Perhaps the two names were used interchangeably.
SEE ALSO in these files James McLemore, born ca 1805 in North Carolina. It appears that this James could be one and the same as the James McLemore who was a son of the Revolutionary Solider John McLemore of North Carolina and Knox County, Tennessee. John's son James was said to have married Hetty McDonald ca 1829 and "moved to Alabama." Perhaps Hetty McDonald is his unknown first wife.
