James Roy Chance was born on 23 Mar 1901 in Texas (son of Daniel Allen Chance and Nancy Curry); died on 21 Jan 1985 in Newton County, Texas; was buried in Yellowpine Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.

Notes:

At the time of the 1920 Federal Census brothers Roy and Leo were boarders at a hotel run by Frank and Mary Morrison on Browndell Road in Jasper County, Texas. Roy was 18, and Leo 16, both single, and both employed as laborers at a saw mill, as were most the other boarders. He must have married soon after this, as by 1930 he was farming, with his younger half-brother Vessie in Sabine County, and shown as married for 10 years.
