William Tyree
Funeral services for William Tyree will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Colvin & Son Chapel, with burial in IOOF Cemetery. Tyree, an 88 year old Oakland City resident, died at Gibson General hospital after a short illness. He was born in Crawford county on Sept. 24, 1888, and had been a lifetime resident of Princeton before moving to Oakland City, where he had lived the past 4 years. Tyree was a retired inspector for Southern Railway Shops where he worked for 52 years. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church, Princeton. Tyree served in the U. S. Army. Survivors include 7 daughters, Mrs. Mildred Julian of Oakland City, Mrs. Pauline Williams of Terre Haute, Mrs. Georgia Lemaire of Princeton, Mrs. Virginia Relleke of St. Louis Mrs. Betty Hedges of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mary Walters of Evansville, and Mrs. Minnie Jones of Houston; 2 sons, Eugene Tyree of Princeton David LeRoy of Houston, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. onWednesday at the chapel.

Paul Williams provided the following information regarding the Civil War service of William Tyree, who was in the Union Army:
TENNESSEANS IN THE CIVIL WAR; (USA) TYREY, William: Blacksmith, Co K, 8th TN Cav
Service records from National Archives shows William Tyrey enrolled in the 8th Cav, Co K, as a blacksmith on 20 Sept 1863 in Hancock County, Tennessee for a period of 3 years. He mustered in 27 October 1863 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The only other item in the file is one card. Remarks say that he had bounty due of $25 plus premium of $2 and this was never paid.

1886 Residence Sterling - William Tyree - subject states that he was a Pvt. in the 8th Reg, Co. K, Tennessee Vol
Paul also has in his files a copy of the original documentation - individual #467 [sic] Tyrey, William which confirms his address, other information suffered from lung disease, camp diahrrea,
Knoxville, TN with a date of Dec 1864 (??)

Actual text: William Tyree, aged 72 years died of brights desease Saturday night at the home of Wright McLamore near Temple. The funeral service was conducted Monday at two o'clock at the Goodman church by Elder A. J. Scott and the body was buried in the cemetery near by. The deceased leaves a widow and a large number of children which are grown.

Paul Williams is descended from this line. He writes that after William's first wife, Eleanor Forgy, died, William hired Sarah Jane McLemore to help him care for his eight children. They eventually married, and went on to have ten children of their own. Paul also supplied the obituary, below, for Sarah Jane.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Tyree was born in Kentucky, May 30, 1857, and died at the Southern Indiana hospital, July 3, 1933, at the age of 76 years 1 month and 3 days. Surviving are 4 sons and 4 daughters - Mrs. John Dunn, Mrs. Florence Satterfield, and [son] Ola Tyree of this place; Jesse Tyree of near Oakland City; William Tyree of near Princeton; Mrs. William Adkins of Francisco; and David, whereabouts unknown. The husband and two children preceded her. She also leaves 52 grandchildren and 19 great grand- children. She confessed her faith in Christ several years ago. Funeral services were held at the Goodman Ridge church Tuesday afternoon by Leonard Cummins.

Paul Williams notes that "Nancy Ann is daughter of Thomas Kirby [also of Rockcastle Co.] please note the surname Kirby is [sic] Curby in some of earlier census records." He later added that Nancy's mother was Elizabeth Ecton/Acton.
Paul showed her as born ca 1836 in Kentucky. The 1900 census shows her instead as born in May 1840, also in Kentucky.
She was living with her son Thomas G. McLemore and his family at the time of the 1910 Rockcastle, Kentucky census. She was listed as age 73, widowed, the mother of 8 children all still living, and born in Kentucky to parents also born in Kentucky.
