There was also a family in Bowie County, Texas made up of father, Ralph L. Brown (38), mother Nada (33) and son Ralph L. Brown (10). Is it possible the family in Winters is family of Ralph Lawrence Brown, Jr?

Ann McGown Brown

Anne McGown Brown, 90, of Houston died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005. Mrs. Brown, a sixth generation Texan, was born Oct. 17, 1914, near Milam in Sabine County as a daughter of the late Emma (Cordray) and Houston Everett McGown. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later moved to Beaumont where she lived for several years before moving to the Houston area in 1999. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Survivors: daughter, Diane CONNALLY and husband John B. CONNALLY, III, a son Ralph Lawrence BROWN III and wife Connie; three grandsons, and great-grandsons, all of Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. BROWN, Jr.; brothers, Edward McGOWN and Leroy McGOWN; and sisters, Lucille HORNE and Dicy Faye DUPERIOR. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the First United Methodist Church of Beaumont. Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont. Services were under the direction of George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home in Houston.

On the Williams-McNaughten Tree at Ancestry.com, she is shown as a niece of Daniel C. Cordray (1834-1905), also of Sabine County, her father John Lawrence Cordray also being a son of Jonathan Cordray and Elizabeth Tomlinson. The transcription of the San Augustine City Cemetery also shows that John Randolph Cordray (1884-1968) was a son of John Cordray and Mary Payne, therefore a brother of Mary Cordray McGown.

Notes:

"Killed in an accident in which his team ran away with the wagon." (White and Toole, p 52).

His tombstone at McGown Cemetery is inscribed Sam Houston McGown, March 22, 1858 - July 15, 1896, Husband of Mary Elizabeth Conn McGown, "Be Still, and Know That I Am God:" Psalm 46:10

Sabine County, Texas Affidavit of B. R. Payne, sworn on August 25, 1927 and witnessed by Edna Whitehead, Notary Public. B. R. Payne was age 74 at that time, and a livelong resident of Sabine County, living about two miles south of Geneva. He was also a grandson of William Roberts, He showed his youngest sibling, Mollie E. Payne was the wife of J. L. Cordray. She was only married once...(and) has been dead about tens years, She laft the following children.
