  1. 6.  John Richard Sparks was born on 10 Jan 1943 in San Augustine County, Texas; died on 14 Aug 2012 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

    White and Toole show him as a son of Beeman [Rudolph] Sparks and Gertha Williams, and grandson Ernest Richard Sparks and Audra Eva Ford.

    Obituary

    John Richard Sparks, 69, died in his home Tuesday night after an illness. Richard was born in San Augustine, TX, to Beeman R. and Gertha Williams Sparks. He graduated from San Augustine High School in 1961 and from Stephen F. Austin University in 1965. Richard and his wife Judy lived in Pineland where he worked and retired as purchasing agent for Temple Inland, Pineland Division. Richard was very active in in the community and civic activities, and being active in sports all his life, he had the opportunity to be the baseball coach of the West Sabine Tigers in the spring of 1981. After retirement Richard and Judy moved to Hemphill on Toledo Bend. Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hemphill.

    Richard is survived by his wife, Judy Carter Sparks of Hemphill, his daughters, Jennifer Morgan and her husband Billy of Diboll and Joanna Smith and her husband Paul of Conroe, his grandchildren, Paige Elizabeth Morgan, Peyton Michelle Morgan and Landon Carter Smith. He is also survived by his sister Cornelia Sparks Lockey of San Augustine, his nieces Lisa Ann Lockey and Leslie Kay Lockey, and his nephew Eddie Lockey, II.

    Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 8:00PM, Thursday, August 16, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM, Friday, August 17, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Cemetery.

  1. 14.  Clarence Earl Carter was born on 20 Jan 1916 in Texas (son of George Burton Carter and Julia Edna Errington); died on 8 Oct 1992 in Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

    "Shortly after Julia was born (ca 1944) the family moved to Hemphill, Texas and Earl Carter was instrumental in establishing the First State Bank in Hemphill, the first bank in Sabine County since the bank failure in 1932, when two banks in Hemphill went broke. The First State Bank is now in its 26th year and is doing well. Earl Carter is now associated with the Pineland State Bank, Pineland, Texas as Vice-President and Director." (White and Toole)

    Ruth Carter

    Ruth Curl Carter, 75, of Hemphill, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1995, at her residence off FM 944. She was born Sept. 9, 1999, in Chireno as a daughter of the late Anna Laura (CRONKITE) and Thomas Jeremiah CURL. Mrs. Carter, a graduate of Stephen. F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, had lived in Sabine County over 50 years and was a member of Hemphill's First United Methodist Church. She was retired for the banking business and she and her husband, the late C. Earl Carter, established First State Bank in Hemphill is 1944.

    Survivors; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John Richard SPARKS of Pineland, two grandaughters and their husbands, Jennifer L. and Billy MORGAN of Diboll and Joanna and Paul SMITH of Willis, a great-granddaughter, Paige Elizabeth MORGAN of Diboll; and a sister, Laura Hall of Chireno and Pineland. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 8, 1982.

    Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill with Bro. W. Clarence HOWELL and Bro. Ferel LITTLE officiating. Interment followed at the Hemphill City Cemetery.
