    Notes:

    Per THE SOUTHERN McGREWS GREW there appear to be two marriage licenses for John Jones to a McGrew. The first was on 24 Jan 1808 in Wilkinson Co, Mississippi to Jane McGrew. The second was 13 Mar 1813, also in Wilkinson Co, to Sarah McGrew. At least seven children were born into the John Jones family by 1820, per the Marion County Census. 4 males and 3 females. John Jones paid poll tax in Marion Co in 1813. He and several brother in laws were charged with assault and battery by John Lott in 1817. The Jones family lived in Copiah Co, Miss by the time of the 1840 census.

    John married Jane McGrew on 24 Jan 1808 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Jane (daughter of James McGrew and Constance Tillett) was born before 1783 in St. Stephens, Mississippi Territory; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Married:
    Wynema McGrew notes that on the 1816 Marion County, Mississippi Territory census, the Johns family was listed as including a white male and female, both over the age of 21, and two males and three females all under 21. By the 1820 census, the family included a male and female over the age of 26, but under 45, and four males and two females all under the age of 10. In both enumerations, this family immediately followed the Alexander McGrew family.

    Johns, along with Alexander and James McGrew were named as defendants in an assault case dated 3 Feb 1817 brought by John Cooper. Only Alexander McGrew was fined. In 1818, Johns, along with brother-in-laws Alexander, William and James were againd sued by John Cooper (along with a man names Simpson)...this time Cooper was awareded $1 from each of the men.
