  1. 4.  Frank John Havel, Jr. was born in Dec 1910 in Fillmore County, Nebraska (son of Frank John Havel and Lula Cudly); died on 11 Jan 1971 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    Frank was born on the farm west of Milligan now occupied by Emil TUREK. He graduated from Milligan Public School in 1928 and entered farming with this father. In 1937, he went to work for the Farmers' Coop. Other employment includes working as a mechanic at BORS & BULIN Garage in Milligan and then at Bruning Air Base. He entered the service on May 29, 1943. He served in the European Theater in France and Germany with the 30th Medical Depot. He was in the battles of Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. After his discharge, he and his brother-in-law, Donal VAVRA worked part time as trappers. In 1947, they received over $1,000 for mink pelts. He worked full-time for Fillmore County as a road maintenance operator and volunteer firefighter (Milligan, p 293).

    Dennis Belohlavy pointed out that his date of birth on the SSDI was instead 14 Dec 1914. It is not known whether this date, or the date of 24 Dec 1910 cited in Milligan Nebraska book, is accurate.

    Frank married Marie Helen Oliva on 21 Dec 1939 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska. Marie was born on 18 Jun 1918 in Tobias, Saline County, Nebraska; died on 14 Mar 2012 in Friend, Saline County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.     Notes:

    After her youngest child graduated from High School, Marie obtained employment with the Youth Development Center in Geneva as Kitchen Technician. She received her 10 year employment pin in 1986. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary HSSK Post #240, Marie also enjoys gardening, cooking, crocheting and sharing her knowledge of her Czech language and heritage. (Milligan, p 294). She is the daughter of Vaclav Anton Oliva, Immigrated in 1909, and Anna Beranek, Immigrated in 1914 (Milligan, p 293).

    Marie H. Havel, age 93, of Milligan, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 in Friend. Born June 18, 1918 to Vaclav and Anna (Beranek) Oliva in Tobias.

    Survivors: son, Rod and Pat Havel, Newman Grove; daughter, Debbie and Charlie Gregory, Grand Island; sister, Dorothy Erwin, Morristown, Tenn.; grandchildren, Logan Gregory, Grant Gregory, Megan Havel, and Christopher and wife Andrea Havel; great grandchildren, Georgia and Isabel Havel.

    Funeral services: 2 p.m. Monday Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel, Milligan. Rev. Karla Sheffy officiating. Graveside services: Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan.     Notes:

    A 1901 graduate of Milligan High School, Frank helped his father with his carpentry work, and took up farming in 1903. (Milligan, p 292). He also worked as a Millman.

    Lula and Frank farmed on the BIBA farm four miles west of Milligan after their marriage. They later moved to Grandma HAVEL's farm, where their two daughters were born. In early 1927, they farmed on Grandpa CUDLY's land. In 1952, Frank began employment with the KASSIK Milling Company, where he remained employed until 1968. (Milligan, p 293).
