    Obituary

    WAHOO '96 Bernice M. Conkling, 86, of Wahoo, formerly North Bend, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Saunders Medical Center Long Term Care in Wahoo. She was born Oct. 9, 1933 at Malmo to Harry and Sylvia (Brecka) Tenopir.

    Bernice grew up near Cedar Bluffs and attended country school there. She married Richard Zakovec on Feb. 17, 1953. She then moved to the farm at Morse Bluff. She helped Richard farm for many years. After Richard's death in 1972 she started working at Campbell's Soup Co, Plumfield Nursery and the North Bend Post Office and cooked at the Rawhide Steakhouse in North Bend. Bernice married Frank Conkling Sept. 30, 1990. He died in 2000.

    She is survived by son, Francis (JoAnn) Zakovec of Morse Bluff; grandchildren, Ryan (Brienna) Zakovec, Brent (Brook) Zakovec and Mike Albert and great-grandchildren, Haley, Dustin, Ashtynn, Kinsley, Grayden and Barrett Zakovec.


    Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Janice Leffers; brother, Wilford Tenopir and grandson, Adam Buchta.

    The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. The Rev. Michael Hill of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend will officiate.


    A COVID-controlled visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. also at Moser's.

    Memorials have been established to Dodge County Humane Society.

    Henry L. Dahl, 96, of North Bend died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

    Henry was born Jan. 7, 1915, near Scribner to Harry and Margretha (Low) Dahl. He spent his first 10 years in Scribner, then moving to a farm south of Burlington, Colo., with his family. He finished his schooling there and helped his father on the farm. In 1934, the family moved to Graf, (east of Tecumseh).

    On Oct. 2, 1937, he was married to Genevieve Miner. They remained in the Graf area until the early 1940s when he and his wife went with his parents to Bennington. There, Henry assisted his parents in the operation of a locker plant and grocery store. After a few years, Henry and his wife went back to the Tecumseh area where he farmed with his father-in-law, and then he farmed on his own. They moved to Colorado in 1958 and then to Fremont in 1959. He worked for Schlueter Construction for several years, and then in 1963, they moved to North Bend where they operated the sale barn until it burned down. He sold crop and hail insurance, and auto club insurance for several years. He was also the police chief in North Bend for three years. And he operated Dahl's Discount Store in North Bend for several years. Henry was will known for his sense of humor and the stories and jokes he liked to tell.

    He was formerly a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tecumseh and was currently a member of North Bend Masonic Lodge 119. He had over 60 years of membership.

    He and his wife, Genevieve, had their 74th wedding anniversary on Oct. 2.
    Henry is survived by: his wife, Genevieve, currently residing in the Pathfinder House in Fremont; a son, Robert D. (and wife, Sharon) Dahl of St. Paul; daughter, Holly (and husband, Dave) Henrickson of Dodge; three grandchildren, Jill Dahl of Grand Island, Ryan (and wife, Brienna) Zakovec of Cedar Bluffs and Brent (and wife, Brook) Zakovec of Morse Bluff; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Ashtynn and Dustin Zakovec; a brother, Carrol (and wife, Dorothy) Dahl of Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Harriet Arandus of the Hooper Care Center and Marjorie Misfeldt of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Dahl; sister, Lois Ludvigsen; an infant son, Larry; and a son-in-law, Richard Wennstedt.

    The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A Masonic service, conducted by the North Bend Masonic Lodge and open to the public, will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

    Genevieve N. Dahl, age 98, formerly of North Bend,
    passed away late Wednesday,(April 27th) at Pathfinder Place, Fremont.

    Genevieve was born April 30, 1917 to Robert and Cecile (Wilson) Miner near Tecumseh, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm, attended district 19 Spring Creek School and Tecumseh High School.

    On October 2, 1937 she was married to Henry Dahl in Bedford, Iowa. They had a son Robert Denis and a daughter Holly Lynn. They lived in Graf area (east of Tecumseh) until the early 1940's when she and her husband went with his parents (Harry and Margaretha Dahl) to Bennington, Nebraska. They assisted his parents in the operation of their locker plant/grocery store. After a few years they went back to the Tecumseh area where they were involved in farming with her parents, and later on their own. Genevieve was known to have hundreds of geese at a time.

    They moved to Colorado in 1958. They raised Shetland ponies and had a business of pony rides for children. In 1959, they moved to Fremont, and in 1963 they moved to North Bend where they owned and operated the sale barn until it burned down. Genevieve had worked as an aid and later as a cook at Birchwood Manor. She also worked at the Bowling Alley and was manager of the Nutrition Site for 8 years. She retired in 1988. She and Henry had Dahl's Discount Store for several years in North Bend. They liked going to auctions.

    Genevieve was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter #119 in North Bend. She had a great love of family, traveling, casino trips, bingo, shopping, cooking, her Christmas Village set (left up all year), ceramics, teddy bears, and root beer candy.

    She inherited the "Homestead Acres" in 1992. It is the original Robert Dew homestead. Henry and Genevieve moved to Pathfinder Place in Fremont at the end of 2010. The celebrated their 74th anniversary on Oct. 2, 2011, and Henry passed away 3 weeks later.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, parents Robert and Cecile Miner, and infant son Larry, and son-in-law Richard Wennstedt. She is survived by her son Robert Denis (and wife Sharon) Dahl of St. Paul, NE, daughter Holly (and husband Dave) Henrickson of Dodge, NE. Also there are 3 grandchildren, Jill Dahl of Grand Island. Ryan (and wife Brienna) Zakovec and Brent (and wife Brook) Zakovec, all of Morse Bluff, NE, and 5 great grandchildren, Haley, Ashtynn, Dustin, Kinsley, and Grayden. And a brother-in-law Carrol (and wife Dorothy) Dahl of Fresno, CA., and sister-in-law Marjorie Misfeldt of Hays, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.

    Services will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont on Monday (May 2, 2016) at 2 PM. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 6 PM.

    Harry Tenopir buried Sept. 20

    William Rolley officiated at the Sept. 20 funeral services for Henry (sic) Tenopir, 82, Fremont, at Moser Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cedar Bluffs.

    Pallbearers were John Hamilton, Francis Zakovec, Don Thomas, Rolland Zakovec, Adoph Tenopir and Frank Jirovsky.

    The son of Albert and Anna Racek Tenopir, he was born March 7, 1907 in Geronimo, Oklahoma. On Feb. 3, 1931, he married Sylvia Brecka in Wahoo. Tenopier farmed at Morse Bluff and Cedar Bluffs. He moved to Cedar Bluffs in 1951 where he was assistant manager at the Farmers Union Grain Elevator. In 1973 he moved to Prague and in 1978 to Fremont.

    Survivors include his wife, daughter Bernice Zakovec, North Bend; son, Wilfred, Fremont; brother, Henry, Geronimo, Okla.; grandson, Francis Zakovec, Morse Bluff; granddaughter, Mrs. John (Janice) Hamilton, Schuyler; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Brent Zakovec, North Bend.

    He was preceded in death by four brothers; Louis, Edd, Emil and Bill; sister, Agnes Havlik, son-in-law, Richard Zakovec and a great-grandson, Adam Buchta.
