There was a Willis Conner in the "1840 Decatur County Georgia Census Index " (Frances T. Ingmire, Mountain Press). Decatur is very near the Florida border. Could this be him?
Came to Texas in 1857 from Tattonall County, Geogia.
Was shown on the muster roll of Captain J.M. Burroughs Company of the Sabine County Volunteer Infantry, CSA, and was enlisted at Hemphill, Texas by Drury Field for 3 months duty on January 15, 1863. His headstone is marked Texas Infantry, CSA.
On his "12 to Midnight" blog, Ed Wetterman (edwetterman@hotmail.com) writes:
In the 1880's several of Sabine County's families became embroiled in an unfortunate shooting feud that disrupted the whole community. Fathers, sons, daughters and cousins became engulfed in the fighting that would ravage the county from 1883 to 1887.
It began with the murders of Eli Low and Kit Smith in Holly Bottom off Housin Bayou in the southern part of Sabine County. The bodies were found about ten feet apart and the men had been shot in the back. The funerals were quickly held and many thought it suspicious that the Conner family had not attended.
It was known that the Conner and Low families had argued in the past about free-ranging and the building of schools and roads. Apparently many angry words had been exchanged, but the situation had never erupted into violence.
After a short investigation, Willis Conner, along with his sons, Fed, William, John and Charles were indicted for the murders and held without bond. Charles and Fed's trial was held first and they were found guilty. Charles was sent to prison for twenty-five years. Fed was given life in prison, but successfully appealed his case and was retried. He was again found guilty. He would never serve, however, as the jail was broken into and Willis, Fed, William and John escaped into the countryside- where they began a running war with the law enforcement of the day.
The Texas Rangers were called in to assist in arresting the Conners, but were ambushed and one Ranger, J.H. (Jim) Moore was killed. William Conner was also killed and many others were wounded. Willis, Fed and John escaped the battle. The Rangers, having suffered a grievous defeat, left Sabine County and did not return. John Conner then abandoned Willis and Fed and according to Ruth Sibley Davis in her book "Neighbor against Neighbor," moved to start a new life in Louisiana.
The people of the county, wanting to end the violence, began to pressure local officers to arrest the Conners. Eventually, a private investigator was hired and disguised as a cattle buyer went through the county looking for clues to the Conner's whereabouts. He learned that Willis and Fed's families left food and supplies for them on a trail somewhere deep in the woods. An ambush was set up and Fed Conner was killed. Willis escaped, but was killed a few weeks later, when his young grandson, a boy of twelve, was coming to give him food. The boy had been tracked and followed by a posse and in the ensuing gunfight, Willis and the boy were killed.
This sad situation finally ended the Low-Conner Feud which had divided the county for so long. For years, no one wanted to discuss what had occurred as it was simply too divisive and the families too intermingled to be considered a worthy subject of conversation.

Obituary
Victoria Advocate

Beeville-Clemencia C. Salazar, 92, of Beevilled, died Wednesday in her home after a short illness.
She was born Nov. 23, 1894 in Beeville to the late Juan and Demencia Garza Contreras.
She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church of Beeville.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am Friday at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Devine officiating. Burial will follow services in the Beeville Memorial Park.
A rosary was recited Thursday at the Trevino Funerl Chapel of Beeville.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Andrea Gonzales of Beeville and Mrs. Alicia Padden of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Antonio Salazar of Amarillo, Abelardo Salazar of Humble and Alfredo Salazar of Mechaniesville, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Eloisa Hernandez and Mrs. Dominga Cantu, both of Beeville; a brother, Jose Contreras of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is listed on the Social Security Applications and Claims Index as Dominga C CANTU, with her parents listed as Juan M Contreras and Clemencia Garza.
When Jose registered for the World War II Draft, he listed his DOB as March 19, 1909 in Texas, and the person who will always know his address was shown as his wife, Mrs. Jessie Contreras. Their address was Box 1041, Beeville, Texas, and his employer was Howard Bros of Beeville. He listed his full name as Jose Garza Contreras, but went by Joe.
In 1930, a Jose Contrera, age 21, was living on Blanconia Road in Bee, Texas, with Antonio and Louise Contreras...parents of Henrique (age 3) and Elida (newborn). He was listed as a brother of Antonio. Other siblings of Antonio's, sharing their home, were Theodora (32), Pablo (30), Louisa (28), Domingo (25), and Francisco (21). All of Antonio's siblings were working on his farm.
As Antonio's draft registration for World War II, done in Bee County, show his parents as Juan Manuel Contreras and Domencia Garza, it is assumed these are the parents of Jose Garza Contreras as well. An 1999 obituary of Eloisa Contreras Hernandez, also of Beeville and born around 1900, also show her as a daughter of Juan Manuel and Demenica Contreras.

"GENEALOGIES OF KENTUCKY FAMILIES" from the Registrer of the Ky Hist Society Vol O-Y, (Baltimore Gen. Publ.-1981) notes that Ann Holland Conyers was related to Lord Holland Conyers, Henry Fox, the Duke of Richmond and Earl of Leinster.
Biography of her son, Andrew Marcus Trawick gives her maiden name, and also states she was born 1803 and died 1860. As she was not located on the 1860 census, it is possible she died before that, or in any case prior to the census.

At the time of the 1850 Sabine Parish census, [the elderly] Green and Nancy were living next door to 43 year old [Granberry] Cook, his wife Frances, and their four children. This was not his son Greenberry Morris Cook, who was married to Rebecca Low. It was most likely his nephew, likely the child of William Cook. That Greenberry Cook died before the 1860 census and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery in Sabine Parish. (Casagranda).
Not listed as a minor child of William Cook in the petition of his widow, Temperance Cook Morris. He may have already reached the age of majority, or might not be a son of William and Temperance, either.
Polly Cook Williams, in a Post-em note to Barbara Yancey Dore's "Southeast Texas Gedcom" on Rootsweb, noted that:
If you will notice Residence 258 of the 1860 Sabine Parish Census, you will see the name of of L.P. Ederington and his wife Francis. This Francis("Fannie") Ederington(she was my great grandmother) was the widow of Granberry Cook (they are listed next door to each other in the 1850 census, when Granberry Cook was still living). Underneath them are listed the names:
1) Shadrack
2) Esmorelda
3) Charles
4) James G.
All of the above children are COOKS and not Ederington/Edrington and the name of James G. (which is James Grandberry) is not included as the 5th child of Granberry and Francis Cook. They are always listed as having 4 children. He is my great-grandfather and I would love it if you would add him as the last child of Granberry and Francis Cook.
(Research):..The U.S. General Land Office Records, 1796-1907 on Ancestry.com show that Granberry Morris Cook was issued 40 acres of land in Sabine Parish, Louisiana (Twp 5-N, Range 13-W, Section 10) on 1 September 1846. The Accession number is LA0500___.123, the Land Office was Natchitoches, the Authority April 24, 1820: Sale-Cash Entry (2 Stat. 566), and the Document Number 2542

Serena Cook emailed, in February 2013, that "Greenberry Cook, is buried in the Shady Grove Cemetery east of Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas, off State Hwy 84. He had a Confederate marker placed on his grave several years ago."
Thought to be a son of Drury COOK and Druscilla COLLINGSWORTH, and a brother to William COOK, who married Temperance MORRIS, a sister to Greenberry's wife, Nancy MORRIS. Rocky Wright believes a third brother, Thomas, settled in Pike County, Mississippi.
In 1803, GREENE COOK witnessed a deed of Ed Moore and wife Rebecca Moore Cook in Clarke County, Georgia.
In 1805, GREENE COOK served on a jury in Clarke County, Georgia.
In 1811, GEENBERRY COOK was one of six legatees of William Cook, all of the state of Georgia, who sold 75 acres to Joshua Cook.
GREENBERRY COOK volunteered in 1812 in Mississippi and after serving 6 months of service was honorably discharged in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in December 1812. He also served under Capt. John Bond January 3, 1815 until April 2, 1815.
It is believed GREENBERRY COOK moved to the Rio Hondo lands ca 1820. He served as the road overseer in Natchitoches, June 2, 1829.
At the time of the 1850 Sabine Parish census, Green and Nancy were living next door to 43 year old Greenberry Cook, his wife Frances, and their four children. This was not his son Greenberry Morris Cook, who was married to Rebecca Low. It was most likely his nephew, likely the child of William Cook. That Greenberry Cook died before the 1860 census and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery in Sabine Parish. (Casagranda, 1850 Sabine Parish Census, p. 74)
The 1840 Natchitoches, Louisiana Census lists a household of 14, consisting of one free white male between the age of 50-59 (therefore born bet. 1781 and 1790) and one free white female between the age of 60-69 (born bet. 1771 and 1780), and 12 slaves, 6 male and 6 females, with half of the slaves being under the age of 10
There was a Green Cook who was the head of a household in Lawrence, Mississippi at the time of the census enumerations in 1820 and 1830 for Lawerence County, Mississippi. It is not known if this is the same Green Cook that later lived in Louisiana, but the household makeup appears to fit.
The makeup of the household in Lawrence County was as follows:
1820

Greenberry Cook

Under age 10-One
Bet 10-15-Two

Not listed as a minor child of William Cook in the petition of his widow, Temperance Cook Morris. She may have already reached the age of majority, or might not be a daughter of William and Temperance.
Listed in 1861 as having six or more slaves. and is listed in many court papers regarding tutorship of members of his family or in land transactions. Robert Flannagan, age 18, was living in their household in Sabine Parish at the time of the 1850 census. (Casagranda, 1850 Census, 86).
The History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana (author John Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912) states that "in 1860 the white population of Sabine Parish numbers about four thousant, and there were less than two thousand slaves. There were few really wealthy people in the parish, and many owned not more than one of two slaves." The owners of six or more in 1861 included Nathan and Mary Cook; James Cook.

Wynema McGrew writes that in 1910, Frances was a widow and living with her son, Hugh, and daughter Nettie, and in 1920 she was living with Hugh and his wife Pearl.
Per Kathy Casagranda's annotated 1850 Sabine Parish census, he was born in Mississippi, and first married Edith Low, daughter of Isaac Low.
He was a private, Company K, 25th Louisiana Infantry, C.S.A., and was captured at Murfreesboro, 5 January 1863. He was then sent to City Hospital, Camp Morton, Indiana.
After the death of his first wife, Shelby married Elizabeth Frances Allen, dtr of John Allen and Emily A. Green. They had 8 additional children, all born in Cherokee County. He was buried at the Cook Cemetery.

Casagranda shows that he died 15 Aug 1866 in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. However, he and his wife and namesake son appear to be listed on the 1870 and 1880 DeSoto Parish census enumerations, so this date apparently is not correct.

Wayne Lamar Cook, 81, of Silsbee, Texas, died Friday, June 28, 2013.
He was born on January 23, 1932, in Hardin County, Texas, to Maude Denson Cook and Hebert Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Earle Cook; children, Eddie Cook, Bryan Cook, Sharon Azar and Peggy Conway; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Doris Biscamp, Jean Adams and Bonnie Free.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Lamar Cook.
Thought to be a son of Drury COOK and Druscilla COLLINGSWORTH, and a brother to Greenberry COOK, who married Nancy MORRIS, a sister his wife, Temperance MORRIS. Rocky Wright believes a third brother, Thomas, settled in Pike County, Mississippi.
Sometimes shown as William B. Cook. Kathy Casagranda shows that he and his first wife, Sara, were listed in the 1850 Sabine Parish census as W. Cook, age 25, Farmer, born Louisiana and Sara, age 17, Louisiana. His real estate was worth 1900 dollars.
