Mozelle Hillyer
Mozelle Hillyer, of Fannett, passed into the arms of her Savior on March 4, 2019. She was born on April 17, 1930, to Easuel and Bertie Fullen Clark in Fairmount, Texas. She grew up in a family of nine children, with four other sisters and four brothers.
One of the greatest loves of her life was her family. To say that she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother is an understatement. Her heart was so big; and she was so full of life! Mozelle was a friend to everyone she met, and just never met a stranger. She knew the importance of loving God, and loving others, and modelled this for her daughters.
As an adult, there wasn't anything Mozelle couldn't do in business if she set her mind to it. She worked for a while as a real estate agent in the Dallas area, then started her own jewelry retail business while taking side work as a notary public. She became known as "The Jewelry Lady".
She is survived by her two sisters, JoNell LaRoue of Orange, Texas and Reba Barnett of Pineland, Texas; daughters, Sylvia Carlisle and husband, Gary Sr.; Becky Person and husband, Vance; Angela Richardson and husband, Robert, all of Fannett, Texas; grandchildren, Gary Carlisle, Jr. and wife, Kristie, of Midland, Texas; Tara Prestridge and husband, Derek, of Leander, Texas; Bethany Vaccaro and husband, Matthew, of Beaumont, Texas; Hannah Barnett and husband, Zeb, of Beaumont; Stephanie Richardson and Paul Richardson of Fannett; great-grandchildren, Rory Carlisle, Cooper Carlisle, and Tanner Carlisle all of Midland; and Whitney Prestridge and Charleigh Prestridge of Leander; and many nieces and nephews.
Mozelle is preceded in death by her spouse, Jack Hillyer; her parents, Easuel and Bertie Clark; and siblings, Bobbie Hankins, Lavergne Smith, Easuel Clark, Jr., Knox Clark, Doil Clark, and Bill Clark.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to The Arboretum in Winnie for helping us to take care of our Momma and Mamaw in the last months of her life. We are so grateful for the kindness and tender care each one of the staff showed to her. We would also like to recognize the staff and residents of Atria Collier Park, of Beaumont, where she lived for almost 10 years.
A gathering of Mrs. Hillyer's family and friends will begin 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

"Alabama, County Marriages, 1809-1950", database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VZK7-XKP : accessed 30 April 2016), Delbert Lee Mclemore and Edith Clark, 1945 show her as born ca 1925, a daughter of Wheeler Clark and Topsie Grider.
Prominent statesman, banker and lawyer Edward A. Clark - a part of the Texas and national political scene for more than 60 years - died Wednesday of heart failure at St. David's Hospital. He was 86.
A memorial service for Clark - former ambassador to Australia and Texas secretary of state - will be at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. today. A second service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Christ Episcopal Church in San Augustine.
Clark will be buried in San Augustine, the small East Texas town where he was born in 1906.
"I'll remember him as a man with good common sense, genuine compassion," said George Christian, White House press secretary under President Lyndon B. Johnson. "He was a loyal, outstanding lawyer. He had a rich, filling life. He touched so many lives."
U.S. Rep. Jake Pickle said of Clark , "No one shaped Texas civic, business or political action more than this man. I could rely on his friendship as I could depend on the rising sun. I have lost my second father."
Clark attended Southwestern University in Georgetown for two years and received an undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1926. He married Anne Metcalfe in 1927 and received his law degree from the University of Texas in 1928.
From 1932 to 1935, Clark served as Texas assistant attorney general and from 1935 to 1937 as assistant to Gov. James Allred. He was then appointed Texas secretary of state in 1937 at age 30.
During the next quarter century, Clark co-founded the Austin lawfirm of Looney & Clark , served as a captain in the U.S. Army in World War II and was chairman of the board of Texas Commerce Bank.
The law firm later became Clark, Thomas, Winters & Newton.
"He was an uncommon man in his commitment to his friends," said Jon Newton, one of Clark 's law partners and former Texas railroad commissioner. "He had a strong vision. He represented some of the most powerful corporations."
In 1965, Johnson named Clark ambassador to Australia.
"President Johnson appointed him because he wanted someone in Australia he was particularly close to," Christian said. "He became, almost overnight, a well-known figure in that country. Clark demonstrated then that he was a lot more than a Texas lawyer."
Former U.S. Sen. Ralph Yarborough said that as ambassador, Clark "was talked about all over Australia."
"Ed Clark was such a stunning success as ambassador to Australia that his name has become synonymous with the word ambassador in Texas," Yarborough said.
"Australians have the fondest memories of him and the particular Texas style he brought to the U.S. Embassy in Canberra," said Laura Wilson, spokeswoman for the Embassy of Australia in Washington, D.C. "He is still remembered for his many efforts to forge close relations between our two countries."
Clark became an executive director of the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C., in 1968 and was part of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency committees.
He had a keen interest in higher education. He served six years as a University of Texas System regent and a trustee at both Southwestern University in Georgetown and the University of Texas Law School Foundation.
He raised millions of dollars for both UT and Southwestern.
"Ambassador Clark was a great supporter of the University of Texas System," said UT System Chancellor William Cunningham. "His commitment to the fundamental principles of democracy and his engaging sense of humor helped to make him one of the state's most influential leaders.
"His understanding of Texas and particularly the needs of higher education made him an invaluable resource to the university and to the higher education community," Cunningham said.
Proud of Texas history, Clark was an honorary lifetime member of the Texas State Historical Association. "He was one of the most active members of our association. He deeply cared about Texas history," said Ron Tyler, head of the association.
"He knew the state so well that his advice would always be considered in the broader sense," Tyler said.
Clark and his wife donated a priceless 24,000 volume collection of Texana to Southwestern in 1965.
In addition to other tributes, the Edward Clark Centennial Professorship in Law at UT was established.
Clark is survived by a daughter, Leila Clark Wynn of Greenville, Miss., his sister, Kathleen Clark Fisher, and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Weed-Corley Funeral Home of Austin is handling the services.

Trudy Cox believes she died in Texas or Mexico. She had listed her probable DOD as in 1908, but it must have actually been after 1910, as she can be found on the 1910 Reeves County, Texas census with her second husband and children.

Her widower, and their children, lived next door to her younger brother in Fort Hancock, Texas at the time of the 1930 census.
On 27 Sept 1906, Francis Fish, a resident of Stephens county, stated she was the widow of Joseph A. Fish, deceased, a Confederate soldier. She applied for a Confederate Pension at the age of 72, stating she had been a resident of Stephens County, Texas for the past 28 years, and was feeble from age. She listed their date of marriage as December 15, 1849 in Sabine County, Texas. She had remained unmarried since the death of Joseph Fish. She answered that he had served in "Wheats" Co Col Ford's Command of Infantry. Pension File Number 12626.
ODESSA Frank Duane Clark, 85, a farmer, carpenter, and retired mechanic passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Hospice House of Odessa surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born March 30, 1926 in Mixon, Texas to Olan Sydney Clark and Annie Mae Klements. After graduating high school in Fort Hancock, TX, he joined the Navy. He served in the Pacific during World War II. After returning from the navy, he made his home in Fort Hancock, TX before moving to Pecos, TX, where he helped raise a family of six kids. From a very early age, he learned the value of hard work. At the tender age of six, he harvested asparagus growing along a river bank in Ft Hancock and sold it to the public, along with selling milk from the family's dairy farm to help make ends meet. Among the many hobbies our dad had, he was a fanatic about fishing as his children will testify to. They spent nearly every weekend of their childhood on a river bank at one of his many favorite fishing spots. He was also a terrific gardener growing everything from tomatoes to watermelons. He loved to hunt for arrowheads and was very proud of his extensive arrowhead collection.
Each child, grandchild and great-grandchild was very special to him. Our dad was always joking around and making family and friends laugh, even up to the very last moments of his life. He was very special to all his children and grandchildren, being the most loving and patient Dad, Pa Pa and Great Pa Pa. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Deborah Lynn Clark; one sister: June Walls; and two grandsons: Jayd Anthony Lee and Michael Duane Blackstock.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 50 years: Frances Clark of Pecos; six children: Neidra Zeephat of Pearce, AZ, Mike Blackstock of Pecos, TX, Kay Lee and husband Roger of Odessa, Pam Johnson of Amarillo, Becky Clark of Midland, and Tracy Willis and husband Brandon of Odessa; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Pecos Funeral Home in Pecos, officiated by Roger Lee.
Arrangements are entrusted to Pecos Funeral Home of Pecos and Acres West Funeral Chapel of Odessa.
We would like to thank his friends at Deerings Nursing Home for their friendship and kindness shown to him. Also, a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Hospice House of Odessa. We all look forward to the time when as Rev. 21:4 says: "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, death will be no more, neither will there be mourning nor outcry nor pain, for the former things have passed away."

Fred Clark was my maternal grandfather. He was born: May 30, 1895 in Parnassus, Westmoreland County, Penn. and died June 17, 1958 in south Texas. His father was I.L Clark and his mother was Maggie Clark. His father was a glass blower. I would love to find out more about his parents and brothers and sisters if any. He married my grandmother Marjorie Rees of Potter County PA she was born at EAST FORK April 6, 1897 and died in 1927, he remarried and moved to TEXAS. He had fought with the 305th Engineers in WWI and was injured/disabled by machine gun fire. He had enlisted in Potter County PA. My mother had a brother Chris and a sister Lois. Otherwise I know very little about the Clark family, and would appreciate anything you know about them.

(Research):Could he have remarried? A George Truett Clark and Barbara Jean Smith are shown on the Texas Birth Index as being the parents of Jennifer Leigh Clark (b. 1963, Nacogdoches) and George Taylor Clark (b. 1970, Jefferson County). It doesn't seem likely, however, as his 2001 obituary lists his wife as Maxine, and shows only four children.
John W. Clark shows that George married first Lucy Catherine Dover, and married second a woman named Sinia, who is buried at the East Lingeville Cemetery, and who was born 25 My 1873 and died 25 Feb 1946.

She shares a marker with her mother, Alice Mae Clark, which is engraved both both names and their dates, along with "Prepare to meet me in Heaven our Sister & Mother."
John W. Clark writes that "Isaac D. Clark was b. ca 1814, son of William Clark and Elizabeth Isaacs Clark. He m. Ann D. he is shown on the 1835 census of Texas in Sabine District. He is not shown on the 1850 tax list of Texas. The following records found in the San Augustine Co. courthouse would indicate that Isaac's wife was named Cartwright:
Vol. I, p. 35-Sept 5, 1853. Isaac D. Clark and wife Ann D. Clark sold for $622.23 land next to Phillip A. Sublett formerly owned by John Cartwright deceased. Sold also Frank a negro slave 28 or 30 years of age.
Vol. 1, p 238 - Nov. 27, 1854. Isaac D. Clark and Ann D. Clark of Angelina County sold to Samuel Wilson a part of John Cartwright tract adjoining estate of Phillip A. Sublett.
The above record would indicate that Isaac and wife Ann were living in Angelina County in 1854. They are not listed on the 1850 census of either San Augustine of Angelina County. Nothing more has been found on this family."
Julie Fotenot posted to the Texas Milam County list on Rootsweb that she found them in 1850 on the Milam County, Texas census.

Ivy Lee Clark, 94, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather passed from this life in the early hours of Saturday, January 30th, 2021.
He was born October 28th, 1926 in Clarktown, TX in southern Sabine County, the youngest son of Ivy Franklin Clark and Mary Jane Parker Clark. He lived most of his life in Pineland where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pineland.
Ivy Lee spent his entire career in the timber industry operating his own businesses over the years before retiring to become a full time Papaw in 2008 where his duties included running the grandkids and friends hang out house on Nichols St. in Pineland, the best Halloween trick-or-treat house in town, backyard pool life guard, tv remote operator, watching The Weather Channel, cartoons and game shows (Tom and Jerry, The Price is Right, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune were a few of his favorites), eating Blue Bell ice cream, perfecting "million dollar" paper airplanes, finding the snacks Mamaw hid from him (which aggravated her to no end), "taking some exercise" by walking laps around the house, and making sure everyday to show his family how proud and loved they are.
Ivy Lee worked hard to support and provide for his family over the years and taught his children and grandchildren through example the values of kindness, hard work, honesty, generosity, and a good sense of humor. Ivy Lee was in every sense of the words "a truly good man."
Ivy Lee is survived by his wife of 53 years Tommie Jean Clark of Hemphill; daughter, Letha June Bichrest and husband, David, of Lumberton; son, Ivy Franklin Clark and wife, Frances, of Pineland; son, Michael Shane Clark and wife, Angela (Krisi), of Hemphill; and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Clark of Pineland. He has nine grandchildren and too many to count great and great great grandchildren who will cherish his memory forever and always wonder about the stories we heard about our Papaw that he "did not recollect" with a blush when asked about. He will be fondly remembered by numerous other extended family and friends who knew him and were blessed to be part of Ivy Lee and Tommie Jean's lives over the years.
He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Lee Clark, daughter, Sandra Kay Clark, and his first wife, Letha LaVerne Kincel Clark.
Ivy Lee's family and friends will lay him to rest under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Gilbert officiating on Monday, February 1st, 2021 at 11am at the Mattox Cemetery near Mayflower, TX north of Burkeville, TX off Highway 87.
Pall bearers will be his grandsons Jonathan Stracener, Christopher Clark, Nicholas Clark, Ivy Jacob Clark, great grandsons Jesse Johnson Jr. and Andrew Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers great grandsons Aiden Stracener, Carter Stracener, Braeden Leonard, Robert Ivy Clark, great-great grandson Hunter Johnson, and might as well be grandsons, Cary Lowe and Tristan McCauley.
A memorial service to honor his life will be planned at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hemphill Care Center for their tireless dedication and their loving care for Ivy Lee in his final years.
Condolences can be made and guest book may be signed online at starrfuneralhome.com.

Not listed on the 1920 census??? Nor is he listed as a child of Jeffersona and Alice's by John W. Clark. It is therefore possible that the 1930 census listing showing him as a son may be in error.
When I was little my great grandfathers house outside of Pineland, Sabine County, Texas did not have running water. There was a dug well outside the back door (off of the kitchen), we used a bucket and rope to get the water out. The well casing was made stones. The outhouse was down by the pond and my great grandfather used old newspapers and magazines as tolit paper, although my mother always brought some from home whenever we went up. The heat during the winter came from a kerosene burning heater in the living room. The front of the house and front porch sat on the ground and the back of the house was about three feet from the ground. His son, Bertis Lee Clark lived just down the highway from him, you could see Uncle Lee's house from my grandfathers yard. I remember that he had sweet gum trees that we would pull the sap off of and chew it like gum. The first thing that he wanted done when we would visit would be for my mother to bake him a peach cobbler. On the front porch was a bucket of water and a dipper along with his straight razer and an old mirror for shaving. I still have the mirror and straight razer in my possession. My great grandfather bought this house and about 11 acres in the fall of 1945 at the age of 62, paying $600.00. Before moving in my great grandfather had the house wired for electricity, this being a first for him. However, there was not enough money for indoor plumbing and would not be until I was in high school in the mid 1960's. The old house was left to my great aunt Alif, great grandpa's youngest daughter and she still owns it today.
In 1936 my great grandfather was a sharecropper and lived in a small house about a half mile north of Yellow Bayou on what is now Texas Farm Road 1414. This place was about 4 miles outside of Burkeville. This is the house that my Cousins Marvin Dean Simmons and Betty Jean Simmons were born. This is where they all lived with my great aunt Alif along with my Aunt Edna Earl Crocker and my father Johnie Crocker, Jr. until the fall of 1940 when the man that owned the property sold it. It was sold to a great uncle of Marvin & Betty's without my great grandfathers knowledge. This forced my great grandfather and his extended family to move about 5 miles away and move by wagon as they had no car or truck. The new place was owned by a man by the name of Ramsey. Both the Ramsey house as well as the old one had no electricity or running water, much less a indoor bath room. At one time during World War II, my grandmother Sophronia along with my aunts, Patsy, Geraldine and Maxine moved into the house with everyone else while my step grandfather Raymond Woods worked in Beaumont in the shipyard. He would ride the bus from Beaumont on Fridays and then return to Beaumont on the bus for work on Monday, a little over a 100 mile trip.
