"Allen Chamber's father was Henry (d 1842, the son of Wm Chambers, Amer Rev Veteran who rec'd a land grant in Warren Co, Ga. He d ca 1832, in Wilkinson Co Ga, leaving his widow Martha* who was on the 1850 census. The Allen Chambers family came to Sabine County in 1860, where he died Feb 5, 1884. His wife died Apr 29, 1878. Both are buried in the New Hope cemetery." White & Toole, SABINE COUNTY HISTORICAL SKETCHES AND GENEALOGICAL RECORDS. Virgie Speights wrote that the Chambers came from Georgia in the middle 1800's and settled on Chambers Hill, north of Milam, where they built a log cabin, in which they lived until they moved a mile or so further north, and built another cabin. Eventually they built a new huge, handhewn, square logged house, which was still standing when she wrote of it in the mid 1960's, and was owned by Elzie Chambers, who used the original home as a corn crib.
*Martha Chambers on 1850 Wilkinson Co Ga census is widow of Henry Chambers, and NOT the widow of his father William (Sr) Chambers. Martha, Henry's widow, lived until 1873. (Email from Earl Scott Chambers).
Earl Scott Chamber's line of descent follows:
-William Chambers and Elizabeth Patton
-William Chambers and Rebecca Stuckey (likely to be his 2d wife) (Henry, Joel and others descend from Williams first wife.....)

Virgie Speights writes that Pearl was born in a log cabin in Time, Texas, and attended school first at Time, where her Uncle Emmit Bennett taught, and later at the Bethel school in Isla, and her teacher there was Joe Mason. She was the oldest daughter in a family of 11 children. As the oldest daughter, she early took over the housekeeping and baby tending duties to free her busy mother for the unending tasks of making a living on a farm. She also helped her father with field work, milking, sugar canegriding, and syrup making.
Caryn Getsinger reports that, according to her sister Pauline, Drusilla was "slow in school," Pauline reported, however, that Drusilla "did beautiful hand work" and was a very good cook. Drusilla gave birth to a baby girl named Norma in 1938, but apparently refused to sign the adoption papers. She may have been forced to give up the baby anyway.

"In the late 19-teens and early 1920's Rush Chambers operated the last exclusive meat market in a building in the middle of the block on the east side of the courthouse square between the county jail building and Harrision Street, what is now in the parking area. That building was the last privately owned property on the courthouse square. It was torn down before the present courthouse was built in 1927. Chambers' meat market delivered meat to the homes in town in the late 19-teens. Ed Buckalew, as a youth, delivered packages by horseback to the homes. Ed Buckalew learned the butcher trade from Chambers and pursued that trade for many years and accumulated a sizable store." From the SAN AUGUSTINE TRIBUNE, Thursday, January 5, 2006, p. 1, "Story of Burks Closure Brings Memories From the Past" by Arlan Hays.
At the time he registered for the Draft during the First World War he was a resident of San Augustine, married, and working as a stock farmer. He was of medium heighth and build, with blue eyes.
