Listed throughout parish census records living with various family members. In 1870, he was listed as "insane" and special provisions were made in his father's will for his continuing care.
Casagranda shows him as a son of R. S. Caldwell and Mary Shelby. At the time of the 1860 Sabine Parish, Louisiana census, a 32 year old William Cook, brick mason, born in Alabama, was living with John and Matilda Caldwell. Casagranda writes that as Matilda's brother, also named William Cook was said to have died in February 1860, it was likely another William Cook, and therefore his relationship to Matilda is not known.
His FindAGrave memorial page, created by R. T. Brandon, shows he "Served as a sergeant in the US Army/US Air Force - World War II and Korea" This US World War II Army Enlistment Records, on Ancestry.com, shows he enlisted "for the Philippine Department" in the Air Corps on 9 July 1940 in the Regular Army. He had four years of High School, and his civil occupation was Farm hand. He was born ca 1921, single, and had no dependents. He was 68 inches tall and weighed 132 pounds.
Melba Gene McLemore speculates that Ellcausey is a Callahan, due to the fact that Sterling and Lucretia Jane, both thought to be siblings of Williams, also married Callahan's...and due to the fact that 84 year old Dessa Callahan (showns as McLemore) is in their home at the time of the 1880 cenus.
IF she is a daughter of Miles and Dica CALLAHAN, however, why does she not appear to be listed with them at the time of the 1850 Marion, Alabama census?

John Callahan, Retired Goodrich Executive, Dies: Rites Tuesday
John T. Callahan, 1327 Normandy Drive, died in a local hospital Sunday night following a long illness. Callahan, widely known in tire and automotive circles throughout the country, had made his home in Duncan since early 1962. He was a vice president of the B.F. Goodrich Co. in charge of sales equipment with headquarters in Akron, Ohio, until his retirement in 1962. During his years with Goodrich he had lived in Akron, Chicago, Detriot, Dallas and New Orleans.
Callahan was born Feb. 18, 1897 at Fort Smith, Ark. Prior to joining the Goodrich company in 1928 he had engaged in oil production and drilling business in eastern Oklahoma.
His work as a special military projects manager for the Goodrich company brought him in contact with military and defense specialists throughout the country.
During World War I Callahan served oversears in the aviation section of the U.S Army Signal Corps. He was a private pilot and an aviation enthusiast and was a member of Quiet Birdmen, an organization composed of aviators throughout the Free World.
After coming to Duncan, Callahan became active in numerous civic activities. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Duncan Rotary Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the local Elks Lodge.
Callahan is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Gentry of Duncan; a daughter Mrs. James Bouyear, and three grandchildren, Eureka Spring, Ark.; and a sister Mrs. M. O. Simmons, Fort Smith.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Don Granthan Chapel under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Gibbens, minister of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services.

Melba Gene McLemore speculates that Sterling's wife is the same Malinda Callahan that lived only several households away from him at the time of the 1850 Marion County, Alabama census. This appears to be based on both her relatively uncommon first name, along with her age and birthplace, plus the fact that Sterling's sister, Lucretia Jane married Malinda Callahan's brother, James Callahan. This has not been proven.
The widow Martha Clark was living with her son, George Washington Clark in Erath County, Texas at the time of the 1910 Federal Census. John W. Clark shows she is buried in Hemphill, Texas, however it appears it is in a cemetery other than the Hemphill City Cemetery, as a Martha Clark can not be found on Kay Parker McCary's transcription of that cemetery.

The State of Mississippi, Claiborne County.
I, James A. Maxwell, Judge of the Probate Court of said County certify that the foregoing writing of three pages was this day produced in open Court and propounded as the last will & testament of Caroline McGrew Dec'd., and admitted to probate and recorded as sus Dec. 1 1854. Jas. A. Maxwell Prob. J.
In the 1850 census Caroline Caller McGrew is living in Claiborne Co, MS, and her daughter Elizabeth C. McG. Lenoir is just across the line in Copiah Co, MS. In the household with Caroline is her son John, Lavinia (his wife), Elizabeth, and Lavinia F. (Frances), their two daughters.
John (#3) and Lavinia Hume Barron were married in Sumter Co, AL, 29 Jan. 1836.
John F. and Francis Rebecca L. Herlong were married 16 Nov. 1848 in Claiborne Co, MS. He and Frances are listed under Flood J. McGrew and Frances in Claiborne Co, MS, 1850 census.
When Caroline Caller McGrew wrote her will, she left her land and slaves, etc, to her dau Mary, with a mention that if Dau Caroline (mar Dungan) was no longer living with her husband, she received slaves. Also a slave was left to Lavinia F., her (Caroline's) granddaughter. Mary died before her Mother's estate was settled because her death is mentioned when the settlement occurred. It took a long time to settle the estate of Caroline Caller McGrew. Mostly it was slaves, and the CW took care of that. There was some question as to the fairness of the division, since Caroline (McGrew) Dungan had remarried (to Ephraim Woods) there were a lot of court papers generated.
For example, these are quotes from a paper filed by Ephraim Woods in the Claiborne Co, MS, court 9 March, 1860. "petition of Ephraim Woods & wife for a sale & distribution of the estate of Caroline McGrew, deceased". They were not happy with the administrator, James S. Mason.
Heirs: "children of the late William McGrew residing somewhere in Texas." (These were Red Bill's children.)"the children of the late John McGrew residing somewhere in the state of Alabama" & " children of John McGrew, except Lavinia F. McGrew" (These were the children of John McGrew # 3. Lavinia H. Barron McGrew has gone back to Ala with Lavinia F. & Elizabeth. )
The petition also wanted the answer of " David Herlong guardian of Eliza E. McGrew, Martha McGrew & William P. McGrew, the minor heirs of John Flood McGrew, deceased. ( Martha and William P. died before reaching adulthood. .)
The answer from "Thomas E. Lenoir, his wife Elizabeth, Lavinia H. McGrew widow of the late John McGrew, and guardian of Lavinia F. McGrew, one of the children of the said John McGrew, dec'd, James S. Mason, exec. of of said Caroline McGrew, Joseph M. Hankins and his wife Elizabeth C. Hankins, and David Herlong, guardian of Eliza E, Martha J. & Wm P. McGrew, MINOR CHILDREN OF J. FLOOD McGREW."..."Caroline McGrew died leaving as her children surviving her the said Caroline Woods, the said Elizabeth Lenoir, Clark McGrew & J. Flood McGrew," Then it again mentions Wm McGrew whose children live in TX, and the desc. of John McGrew towit: Lavinia F. McGrew & Elizabeth C. Hankins residing in AL. Also that dau Mary (mentioned in will) has died.
Also, from Claiborne Co, MS Probate court, the petition of "Clark McGrew of said county shows that on the 12th day of February last, John F. McGrew a brother of your petitioner departed this life in said county." Sworn to Apr 23 1855.
Another record in Claiborne County, MS, probate court, "the undersigned administrator of the estate of John F. McGrew.....at the time of the death of said decendent a crop was ptiched on certain lands in the possession of said decendent, your petitioner, and the executor of Caroline McGrew - in which crop said decedent John F. McGrew worked two of his own hands and a third hand which was hired by by said decendant..
sworn to by Clarke McGrew, June 28, 1855.

Among their neighbors at the time of the 1850 Copiah County, MS census were numerous Herrington families.
Shirley W. Brinkley writes that the obit. for Jas. D. Cammack indicated he was a Mason and member of the Methodist church. The Poplar Springs Cem. was originally begun as a private cemetery on the old home place of Jas. D. Cammack, and is 2 1/2 miles s.e. of Crystal Springs on Harmony Rd, 1/4 mile to the location of the former home place.

Jack Peters shows he was first married to an Alma, but does not show any children born to this marriage. Shirley Brinkley also notes two marriages, first to Mrs. M. J. Ray, and second to Cornelia Crawford.
Her Texas Death Certificate, viewable online at FamilySearch.org, Texas Deaths, 1890-1976, shows her as a housewife, with her parents listed as Thomas Forrest Cammack and Sarah Karcher, and the informant was her husband, D. C. Clark, Sr.

Said to have married Abner P. Steele Sr on 4 Feb 1857 in Copiah County. Not able to locate on census records, however. There was an Archibald Steele, born ca 1818 in Tennessee, living with a Martha Steele of the correct age on the 1870 Copiah County, Mississippi census. It appears to have been a second marriage, as several children not much younger than Martha were in the household, and with an eight year gap between the next to youngest child, 9 year old Ella, and the youngest, 1 year old Abner. However, if this is the same couple, and the 1857 date of marriage is correct, then Martha would be the mother the four youngest of the seven children in the household, Mollie age 12, Burras age 10, Ella age 9, and Abner age 1. Shirley Brinkley shows that Martha's husband was indeed named Archibald (11-2-1818/7-9-1879), and not Abner.
His Texas Death Certificate, viewable online at FamilySearch.org, Texas Deaths, 1890-1976, shows his usual occupation as a barber. His parents were listed as Forist Cammack and unknown, and he was shown as married. He was to be buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Carthage.

Jacks Peters and Shirley Brinkley both show that she died on 14 Sep 1899 in Trinity County, Texas, however as she is listed on the 1900 census, either his date or the census listing is in error.
He married Della May THOMAS. At the time of the 1910 Federal Census he was still single, and was living with his older half brother, William Cammack and family in the JP 5 of Shelby County. He was listed as a farm laborer. Cousin Willie N. Cammack was also listed in the family group.

Shirley Brinkley writes that there was "some question whether Thos. Cammack immigrated at 13 yrs. of age accompanying a widowed mother to Horab, SC (Fairfield Co) or TN. One source suggested that Thomas, his widowed mother, older bro. Wm. and twin, James, immigrated to NY in 1797 and journeyed to SC where he stayed with his Uncle David Cammack several years."
