The 1910 census indicates that Vernon and Elizabeth had 7 children total, 5 of whom were living. Ten years earlier, it was indicated that they had 3 children, all of whom were living. It therefore appears that son Wesley died prior to 1910. It also appears that they had another child that was born after 1900, but before 1910.

Dolores McLemore McKee says that her Granny Mac was nicknamed "Jim Ann" because she always worked like a man. She was orphaned at around nine years of age, and raised by a lady that Dolores believes was a maternal aunt.
Susan's first husband is listed as Syon Beason "S. B." REED on Find A Grave, a son of William Harvey Reed and Elizabeth Southern Reed. Said to have been born 14 Feb 1866 in Alba and died 8 Dec 1908 in Howard County, TX. Burial place not known. Find A Grave Memorial# 136528894
Dolores McLemore McKee believes her maiden name was BYRUM, though it has instead been cited as BYRAM, BARNES, and BALDWIN. She was said by descendants to have been born in Indian Territory, of Cherokee heritage. Three of her daughters from a prior marriage were living with she and Elisha McLemore as of the 1900 census, listed as his "daughters-in-law" [sic-s/b step-daughters]
When her eldest McLemore daughter, Lillie Mae, applied for a social security account in 1944, she listed her mother as Amer. Baldwin.
On the California Death Index, Susan's maiden name was shown as BARNES
MCLEMORE SUSIE ANN 09/09/1867 SWEDEN BARNES F TEXAS FRESNO 08/20/1947 79 yrs

At least two of her daughters also believed her last name to be BARNES, Mozelle, who was the informant for her death certificate, and Fallie, who showed BARNES on her application for a Social Security Number. It is interesting to note, however, that Fallie's application was printed in all capital letters, with only the Mother's Maiden name and the signature in cursive, as if there may have been some hesitation regarding the mother's maiden name.
Dolores McLemore Mckee adds that Susan's mother, Susan Sweeden, was a daughter of Ellen Simpkins, Elen Simpkins is the daugher of Joseph Simpkins and Nancy Stephens of North Carolina and Alabama.

The McLemore Burying Ground is about one mile off the Montgomery -Atlanta
Highway to the right facing east, and is about five miles from Montgomery.
It is on a knoll behind the old James McLemore home built about 1820. In
1936 Mrs. Lizzie Taylor Dickerson occupied it. A low brick wall and
iron fence surrounds the lot. Outside the main cemetery is another smaller
one, also enclosed. There are graves of slaves and faithful servants, mostly
unmarked outside all enclousures. Graves listed begin at the southwest
corner of the plot.

At the time of the 1900 census, the widowed Lizzie Cagle was living in the adjoining household to Joseph Fairchild, also widowed. It appears as if she may have been working as his housekeeper. According to Merritt Mullen, they were married in 1901, and Lizzie died in 1902. Shortly after Lizzie died, Joseph married her oldest daughter, Mamie.
When Lizzie's son, Walter, applied for his social security account in 1940, he listed his parents as "Jesse CAGLE and Lizzie CAGLE (same name)." It appears that he did this on purpose, so perhaps his parents were cousins? It could also be that he simply was unaware of his mother's maiden name. Further research should be done to verify this.

This appears to be his listing on the SSDI, depite the small variation in the year of birth (1885 on SSDI vs. 1887 on the census). It is noted that both sources show his month of birth as September.
WALTER CAGLE 27 Sep 1885 Jan 1966 (Mississippi) (none specified) 425-28-5253 Mississippi. The completed form SS-5 also has 1885 as his year of birth, so it is assumed this is more accurate than the census. He completed his application on November 2, 1940, and listed his address at that time as Rt. 2, Collins, Miss., his place of birth as Hazelhurst, Copiah, Miss. and his parents as Jesse CAGLE and Lizzie CAGLE, with the phrase "same name" listed in parenthesis after his mother's name. Walter was age 55, and no longer employed.
Jane Zimmerman writes that James Cahill worked at the shipyards, as did his father-in-law John Bodwin. Both lost fingers during their course of employment, but neither received compensation for their loss.
The Social Security Death Index listed her last residence as Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona.
