James Jolly Still is buried in the Bean-Still Cemetery in Edgefield Co. S.C. His tombstone is marked with the deathdate, 15 Nov. 1849, "age 63 years". His wife, Isabella's tombstone is marked with her deathdate, 1 April 1872, "age 86 years". Because James Jolly witnessed a deed in late 1805 (see above under David Still). I believe he had to be born by 1784 to be of age to witness, and the tombstone age of 63 years may be wrong.
Edgefield Co. Deed Bk CC:Book 28:78. 21 March 1806. William Martin to Jolly Still 270a, on Underwood's Branch of Mine Creek of Saluda River adjacent lands of Isaac Bush, Benjamin Still, William Rotten, Ogden Cockeroft and Adam Stalnaker , originally granted to said William Martin 06 February 1804; witnessed by Benjamin Still, David Still. Signed William Martin, Mary Martin. Proved 15 April 1806 by David Still. Alexander Bean JP; recorded 25 March 1807.
Some of my information comes from Winard King, Jolly's descendant, and from a writing by a descendant in March 1917 called "Partial History of the Bean Family" which Mr. King sent me. I have also culled information from Mr. King's correspondence to me in 1985 and first part of 1986. He died soon after 25 February 1986, date of his last letter to me. He was a very good researcher and very enthusiastic about genealogy.

Even though he was listed as Elvis Kuykendall on the 1860 census, Linda Kuykendall wrote that "Elvis was a Stinnett his mother wed Alfred Kuykendall as his second wife. Elvis was the son of Dabney Stinnett. My Dad knew G. G. (George Graham) Kuykendall. G.G. and his stepbrother Elvis were close friends. Elvis was knocked down by big dog coming out of a shop in Carmi and died."
This article below, with more details about Elvis's tragic death, is from "Gone But Not Forgotten, Vol. 1", p 453, and was copied from his FindAGrave memorial page created by M. Kramer.
Elvis Stinnett died Thurs morning after suffering a fall when a big hound, running down the sidewalk, knocked his feet from under him. He received a fractured skull from the fall. The accident happened in front of Fred Brandt's Shop near his home. Born in Todd Co., Ky, in 1843, died 19 Dec 1918. Son of Dabney K. and Susan Britton Stinnett. His father died in 1845 and was buried near Elkton, Ky. Married 1867 to Emor Clark near Phillipstown. One of the founders and first trustees of McHenry Methodist Church. Burial Kuykendall Cemetery. Born March 13 1843 75 years 9 months 6 days. After father's death, his mother married Alfred Kuykendall.
Joel Stinnett, nephew of Samuel Marshall, is shown as an 1836 settler in Lewis county in Township 60, Range 7. Samuel was in Range 6 so Joel would have lived just a short distance farther west. The Stinnett's appear in the 1840 census but moved on to Texas in the mid-1840's where he had the first grist mill in the state. A grandson founded the town of Stinnett, Texas. Joel was the son of LINDSEY & NANCY (MARSHALL) STINNETT in Bedford County, Virginia. Nancy was an older sister of Samuel Marshall. (Ralph Marshall, p 30).
Lindsey Stinnett is said to be the son of William Stinnett and grandson of Benjamin Stinnett and Elizabeth Sanders of what is now Amherst County, Virginia. Benjamin served in the French and Indian Wars. (Ralph Marshall, p 24).

The "Early Settlers of Roosevelt County, New Mexico" notes that he was married first to Sarah Fellows.
Ebenezer Stockbridge was a minister for 30 years and was head of Holston College near Knoxville, Tennessee. (Early Settlers of Roosevelt County, New Mexico, pg 98)
Witness to the marrige of Ralph and Mary (Stockbridge) Strong. Also gave an affadavit about the health of Ralph's first wife, Mary Ella Hall. The affadavit was given to explain why Ralph forfeited his homestead in the Territory of Oklahoma.
Mary and her sister Celia Stockbridge were both Schoolteachers. They were homesteaders on adjacent plots of land in Olustee, Greer (now Jackson) County, O.T. They built a cabin across the property line, which they shared. In fact their dining room table was directly over their property line.
After her marriage to Ralph, they moved to the New Mexico Territory. She remained there after his death. At the time of the 1930 census, she was still in Roosevelt County, Precinct 24, ED 27 and listed as: Mrs. R.B. Strong O $800 F W 72 Wd 49 Va Maine TN
When Charles Strong visited Roosevelt County, New Mexico in October, 2000, he met J.T. and Lilly Belle Toombs of Pep, New Mexico. Both of them remembered Mary Strong. In fact, they still had a book they had received as a gift from her. The book was titled "One Hundred and One Famous Poems" an anthology compiled by Roy J. Cook. It had a copyright date of 1929, and was inscribed "From Mrs. R.B. Strong To J.T. Toombs April 24, 1937."
She apparently moved back to Oklahoma shortly after this, as the history of Roosevelt County New Mexico indicates she died in Praire Hill, Oklahoma. This is approximately five miles north of Creta, Oklahoma. Her certificate of death shows she actually died in Olustee, and was buried in Prarie Hill. The informant was Mrs. R.F. Mitchell (her sister Celia). The certificate of death also shows she was born in Virginia. Mary's early reponse to the federal census instead has her place of birth as Tennessee. Charles Strong spoke to Darline Irby, who has records of Jackson County cemeteries. She said that Mary was not buried in Prairie Hill, but rather in Erin Cemetery, located 2 miles north and 2 and 1/2 miles west of Olustee, OK.

Friedericke Ahr
Died at the Home of her Daughter, Mrs. C.O. Lenzner
Long and Favorably Known
Closely Identified Many Years with the Evangelical Church and Was Highly Respected by All
From the handle of the front door of Gottlieb Ahr's home on Seeger Street a streamer of crepe was seen on Wednesday morning which told the passerby that Grandma Ahr had passed into eternity. Mrs. Ahr was one of Cass City's oldest settlers. In 1868 she came here with her husband from the so-called German colony which was a German settlement near Bay Port. Cass City was then in its infancy, there being only a few holdings which formed the nucleus of the village.
From the first Mrs. Ahr asserted a beneficial influence in the community. She was always admired for her strong common sense and helpful disposition, which characterized her entire life. Especially was she a strong factor in church life. She was one of the charter members of the Evangelical Church of this place. For many years the services were held in the Walmsley schoolhouse one and one-half miles from the village. Mrs. Ahr took a leading part in all these services. Being musically inclined she led in song in every service. Through all kinds of weather, in summer or winter, the good woman journeyed to the little schoolhouse and became a source of inspiration to all. She was active in her sphere of work up to a few weeks ago, when she took to her bed never to rise again. Seven years ago the deceased wrote the following short sketch of her life, which we have translated from the German language:
"I, Johanna Friedericke Ahr, nee Stoll, saw the light of this world at Vaihingen, Kingdom of W?rttemberg, August 8, 1820. I came to this land in the year 1854 and entered into wedlock with Gottlieb Ahr in 1856. I was born into eternal life in 1859 and joined the German Methodist Church. After a period of nine years I came to Cass City where I became a member of the Evangelical Church in 1868. For a long time I had a hard battle with Satan who tried to rob me of my experiences as a child of God; but after much prayer and by the assistance of the Holy Spirit I gained the victory. I expect to leave one son, four daughters and -- grandchildren. I have nothing to glory in myself, but in the grace of God I do glory, for He has done great things for me. To Him be all honor and praise now and throughout all eternity. Amen."
At the close of this remarkable document she makes the request that the following words should be used as her funeral text: "But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." Rom. 5:20. She also chose the hymns which were sung at the funeral service. The funeral was held to-day. The pastor, Rev. L. Brumm preached a powerful sermon to a large congregation.
Mrs. Ahr leaves an aged husband, and five children, Mrs. C.O. Lenzner, Mrs. H.S. Gamble of Sebewaing; Mrs. S. Striffler of Argyle; Mrs. F.D. Royer of Northview, Mo.; and Theophilus Ahr, her only son.
(Transcribed by Melinda McLemore Strong, Fall 2007)
The July/August 2011 issue of the Cass City Area Historical and Genealogy Society, Volume 16, Number 4, featured an article about the Ahr family, and noted that Frederica hauled her piano all the way from Pennsylvania to Ora Labora and then on to Cass City. She was the only person in the whole village at the time who had or could play the piano and she was in much demand for church services, weddings, and funerals, no matter the denomination.

His FindAGrave memorial page, created by "ProgBase" has a photo of his military marker. It is engraved with a cross and the following "Marion A. Stoneking, New Mexico, SFC 475 Aero Sq World War I Nov 30 1893 [???] Jan 12 1954"
When he registered for the draft during World War I, he was single, and a resident of Holbrook, Arizona. He worked for Babbitt Bros as a Warehouse foreman. His place of birth was listed as Kelly, New Mexico. He was described as Tall and of medium build, with gray eyes and light brown hair.
His DOB may be wrong on his tombstone, as his registration for the draft shows he was born on 30 Nov 1896, which is consistent with his reported ages at the time of the 1920 and 1930 census enumerations. The SSDI has yet a third difference, showing 30 Nov 1895. The year 1895 matches his application for a military headstone, and is assumed to be the most accurate. This application was signed by his apparent widow, Luella Corbett Stoneking. Luella is also buried at Sunset Memorial Park. The Bernalillo County marriage index shows that Marion and Luella Whittaker were married circa 1950.

The parents of Luvenia were John Milton Stratton and Martha Matilda Hellums. They had about a dozen children and they, along with Larry's other great-grandfather, Joseph Henry Morgan, left Texas and took part in the Oklahoma land rush, settling in Carpenter, Oklahoma. John Stratton received a small pension for his service as a Texas Ranger in the 1870's, and the Stratton's are buried in Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood, CA."

Lillian Maxine Korbelik was born to Edward Joseph Strauss and Sophia Kathryn (Pfingsten) Strauss on September 2, 1921, at Ohiowa, Nebraska, and passed away on January 17, 2013 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was one of three children in the family.
Lillian attended school District 43, completing the 8th grade. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa. Growing up, she often helped neighbors by cooking and cleaning for them. She married her childhood neighbor and family friend, Joseph Korbelik of Milligan, Nebraska on October 24, 1940. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Together they lived on various farms northeast of Ohiowa and had two children, Shirley and Gary. Lillian enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, and geese on the farm and helping Joe with the livestock and farming. She was a hard-working woman who enjoyed taking care of her family and friends. Lillian and Joe moved into Ohiowa in 1978, where they enjoyed the friendship of various neighbors and visits from their children and grandchildren. In 2005, Lillian moved to Geneva to enjoy the conveniences that the city had to offer.
Lillian was an avid baker and talented cook. She was widely known for her famous kolaches, which she would sell at the Farmer's Market in Geneva. According to her records, she made 23,397 kolaches between 1992-1999! Even though she was diabetic, she always enjoyed her sweets-especially ice cream. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, canning, gardening, and most of all, polka dancing. Lillian could often be caught tapping her toe to polka music in the kitchen. She never missed the Big Joe Polka Show on Saturday nights. Lillian's last polka dance was on her 90th birthday party in Millligan, dancing to the music of the Moonliter's-Randy Korbelik's polka band.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sophia Strauss; her brother, Earl Strauss; husband, Joseph Henry Korbelik; and granddaughter, Jamie Lea Korbelik-Gibson.
She is survived by her sister, Birdeen Grote of Harvard; daughter, Shirley Simmonds and husband Jim of Papillion; son, Gary Korbelik and wife Daria of Grand Island; grandchildren, Chad Gernstein of Naples, Florida; Brandon Korbelik of Geneva; Wendy Grojean of Omaha; Jessica Korbelik of Lincoln; Dawn Darrell of Omaha; Brett Simmonds of Omaha; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is listed as Catherine (or Catherine Agnes) Strawbridge on the Texas Death Certificates of Hattie Bickley Eddins, Benjamin Bickley, and Jackie Bickley. Find A Grave instead lists her as Katherine A. Baker. This appears to be based on the 1900 and 1920 Shelby County, Texas census, both of which show a widowed Jane Baker, mother-in-law, living with John and Catherine Bickley. Perhaps Jane remarried after Catherine was born?
It appears from the 1930 census that he was married previously, and had a daughter (Reid, born ca. 1909) and son (Reginald, born ca. 1912) from his first marriage. He was employed at a cordage mill.
Some show her first name as Melvador, and others as Emily.
Referenced by both as "Milly" Stickland, and said to be married to Robert Higginbotham ca 1800 in Madison Co, GA. He was said to be born ca 1770 in Amherst Co, VA.
Others show her husand as Joseph, Robert or Rueben.
Carl Evans shows she married Denham PARDON (PARTIN?).

Most internet trees show that the Ansel Strickland that married first Elizabeth Strickland and later married Amy Braswell is a son of Hardy "Devil" Strickland and his wife, Priscilla Ann Strickland.
Richard Chapman (chapman_richard@bellsouth.net) emailed, in December 2012, that he was "convinced that this Ansel is not the son of Hardy and Priscilla as most trees on Ancestry state. My first clue came from a descendant of Hardy and Priscilla who is reasonably sure (based on oral family history) that Hardy's son Ansel never married. Assuming this is correct, I began a search to find my Ansel's parents. First, I learned that Ancel's first wife Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard Benjamin Strickland. Next, I confirmed that Richard B. had a brother named Bennett and that Bennett had a son named Ansel Butler born abt. 1815 (about the same time as Hardy's son) This meant that Ansel's first wife was also his first cousin. I have discovered many trees which indicate that this Ansel is the son of Bennett Strickland and Nancy Bone. The most credible source is a descendant of my Monroe's brother. She is positive of her information but at this time has not provided her sources. Family names and proximity of families indicate Ansel has more ties to Benjamin and Bennett than to Hardy's family. I noticed that a John F. Wise from Montgomery,Al has made comments about Ansel and he invites reactions"
John F. Wise of Montgomery, Alabama posted the following information on a message board:
I never found or recorded this info. before, so I thought I'd pass it on, i.e., some of you other Strickland researchers may be interested in this finding and conclusion.
While checking the U.S. Census of 1860 info. contained in the "Strickland Scene," Vol 9, No. 4, June 1991, page 67, I ran across the following census entry for Clarke County [GA], Dwelling 222, Family 222, on A. B. STRICKLAND (39 years old), his wife MARY ??? (27 years old), and their six (6) children.
I checked this census entry against my master database [I always do this to clear up unattached "strays"] and found that A.B. STRICKLAND fits the birth date and surrounding county areas, and the name and year-of-birth of the son of HARDY (DEVIL HARDY) STRICKLAND SR. and wife PRISCILLA ANNE STRICKLAND, of nearby Jackson Co., GA. Since this is a good circumstantial and logical "probable" hit, I connected this A.B. STRICKLAND found in Clarke Co., GA. (in 1860) to DEVIL HARDY STRICKLAND SR. in my database.
Of course my info. is in no way proof positive, so I stand ready to be admonished, corrected, etc. If any of you have changes or additions to this finding, please share your info. and update your Strickland kuz'ns (me included).

Richard Champman followed up on his email above in June 2013, stating that he had
"more documentation on Ansel B. Strickland 1814-1863. I have DAR record for Henry Strickland, ancestor # A111338 and a member national number 771154. This document shows that Ansel was the son of Bennett Strickland and Nancy Bone. Bennet was the son of Henry Peter Stickland born 1744-54 died 20 Feb 1796 in Jackson Co. Ga. and Mary Hickman."
Civil War service records for Ansel Strickland are below. It appears Ansel actually died on 21 Mary 1863 in Richmond rather than simply "mustering out."

My application for SAR membership was approved which helps verify my line to Henry Peter Strickland and confirms(in my opinion) that Ansel B. who died in the Civil War at Richmond was the son of Bennett Strickland and Mary Hickman. Pat Ezell indicates he was known as Registrar Cade Strickland, a Registrar of the U.S. Land Office at Greensburg, Louisiana. He was appointed to the office by President James B in 1857.
There was a Cade D. Strickland who fought in the Confederate forces in Louisiana, Fourth Louisiana Infantry, Fourth Regiment, Company G, as a Private. (Ancestry.com, US Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865, M378 roll 28). Further research should be done to see if this record if for Cade Drew Strickland of St. Helena Parish.

Why is she not listed with her father and stepmother at the time of the 1850 or 1860 federal census enumerations? She would have been very young, and presumably still in their home.
