Christina Buerk "came from Waldhausen to America in 1873, with her granddaughter, Katherine Buerk," later the wife of Solomon Striffler, according to the obituary of Katherine Buerk published in the Friday, January 21, 1938 issue of the Cass City Chronicle.
Christina's own obituary is below:
Tri County Chronicle
Cass City Michigan
Friday, May 19, 1907
Mrs Christina Buerk nee Reinert died at the home of her son, Fred Buerk, on Thursday, May 11 after an illness of several months. She was born in Walthausen, Wurtenberg, Germany on January 4, 1817, where in 1835 she was united in marriage to John Buerk. To this union came five children, four sons and one daughter. Two sons, Charles of Caro and Fred of this place survive. Mr. Buerk died in Germany in 1866 and in 1873 Mrs. Buerk and her children came to America, settling on a farm in Elkland township, northeast of this village.
She was converted during a series of meetings conducted by Rev. W. Berge during his former ministry here and has since lived a christian life. At that time there was no Evangelical church organized in this village. For several years past she has made her home with her son, Fred. Besides her two remaining sons she leaves 5 granchildren and 15 great-granchildren. The funeral services were held in the Evangelical church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. Berge, and her remains laid to rest in Elkland Cemetery.

Lucille Rempe, 92, passed away May 27, 2022, and Ray Rempe, 96, passed away May 28, 2022, in Lincoln. Rosary will be said at 10:00 Monday, June 6, 2022, at St. Michael's Catholic
Church of Hastings. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. In lieu of flowers family requests masses be offered on their behalf. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
Ray recently said, "Lucille is not going anywhere without me." She passed away shortly before
midnight May 27, holding hands with her devoted husband. Less than 3 hours later Ray followed his precious wife.
Ray Henry Rempe was born June 25, 1925, to Henry and Magdalene (Ilg) Rempe near Mount Clare. He attended Mount Hope grade school and St. Stephen's parochial school. As a
young man he worked on his father's farm and other area farms.
Lucille Barbara Buschkoetter was born September 22, 1929, to Anthony and Rose (Blume) Buschkoetter near Lawrence. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Lawrence High School.
Ray was drafted by the Army and took his training at Fort Hood, TX. Ray said his drill sergeant suggested to the troops they find a girlfriend so they would be more likely to receive mail. Happily, while he was on leave after basic training, he went on a double date with his brother and Lucille's
sister. The rest is history.
Ray and Lucille began their 73-year marriage in Superior next door to Ray's parents. After a year of
working in town, they rented a farm northwest of Superior. Times were tough, so in 1956 they moved to Hebron where Ray did plumbing and heating.
Lucille cared for their growing family and tended a large garden. In 1962 Ray joined K-N Natural Gas Company. After two years he was transferred to Milligan where he took the position of Service Manager. Lucille was active in the Altar Society and did babysitting for a few Milligan families.
Ray and Lucille liked to travel and enjoyed trips with their siblings, friends, and grandchildren. After retirement they moved to Hastings, and in 2002 they moved to Good Samaritan Village where they did volunteer work.
Ray and Lucille were preceded in death by an infant daughter, a grandson, a great grandson, their parents, and several brothers and sisters.
They leave behind to mourn their children: Don (Kay) Rempe, Barb (Gaylen) Havel, Dale (Kathy) Rempe, Steve (Kris) Rempe, Glen (Kim) Rempe and Joyce (Dave) Sonenberg; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brother, Elmer (Maxine) Rempe; sister, Sally Menke; and sisters-in-law: Eileen Buschkoetter and Joan Rempe

JUANO LAVELL RENNELS.
Ship's Cook, Second Class.
Service Number #06332016.
From, South Gate, California. Purple Heart. Submarine, USS Wahoo (SS-238). Loss Date, October 11, 1943. In La Perouse Strait, Northern Japan. Sunk by a combination of air attack, shore batteries, and depth charging.
Sharon Iwanick is a volunteer for "On Eternal Patrol." It is a site that honors all WWII submariners. Last year she was contacted because of her genealogy interests. It was regarding a submariner. She was able to disprove it was her family, but got hooked on trying to find family of the submariners lost in WWII on the submarine USS WAHOO (SS-238) It was lost in Oct. 1943, in La Perouse Strait, Northern Japan. Sunk by a combination of air attack, shore batteries, and depth charging. Recently the Naval Dept. announced the submarine found, is the USS Wahoo. They are trying to locate family and friends of the submariner, to share the news and of the upcoming Memorial planned.
With tracking this family, I have come up with a bit of data on the family of Juano Rennels. Gleaning from your web-site, I see a couple other leads I will try to follow. I'm hoping you possibly might have more data, a relative or contact, regarding this line, to help our search. I will gladly share my findings with you, if wanted.
Reading the history books on the USS Wahoo, it appears Juano L. Rennels, married before one of his voyages and is unknown if he had children.
Juano Lavell RENNELS, Ship's Cook, Second Class, was aboard the USS WAHOO (SS-238) He was inducted from California. He listed his next of kin, his wife, Mrs. Lottie Edith Rennels, 9831 Elizabeth Ave., South Gate, CA. {Los Angeles Co.}

Ruch Elementary principal dies Truman Rennels, 72, fell ill Friday from undiagnosed leukemia
By JONEL ALECCIA
A longtime local educator recently named principal at Medford's Ruch Elementary School died suddenly Sunday. Truman Rennels was 72. Rennels, who fell ill Friday, succumbed to previously undiagnosed leukemia complicated by pneumonia, said his son, Bud Rennels of Medford. "The only thing going strong at the end was his heart," the younger man said. "It was a total shock." Truman Rennels retired from the Eagle Point School District in 1999 after a 25-year career as a teacher, coach and administrator, ending as vice principal at Little Butte School. But he couldn't stay away from education, his family and colleagues said. The Medford man was a frequent classroom substitute who stepped in last spring as vice principal at Eagle Point High School, said Mari Brabbin, the principal there. When the job came available in Ruch this year, Rennels was eager to apply, his son said. "He was just too bored and thought he should take another job," Bud Rennels said. People who knew Rennels characterized him as an energetic, upbeat man who had the best interests of students at heart. "Truman believed that all kids could reach their highest potential," Brabbin said. "He gave every kid a clean slate every day." Rennels was active as an elder in the West Main Church of Christ and he served as an educational consultant for George Fox University, Northwest Christian College and Concordia University. His strong faith caused minor concern after his first staff meeting at Ruch June 7. Rennels asked about the possibility of starting meetings with prayer, raising objections among some staff members. One staffer raised the issue in a casual conversation with Jim Bond, a representative with the Medford teachers' union. Medford school officials investigated the matter and agreed that the request was inappropriate, but did not violate district policy, interim Superintendent Kathy McCollum said before Rennels' death. Religion was a big part of Rennels' life, his son said, noting that Rennels had taken out a life insurance policy that listed the church as his beneficiary. Medford officials expressed shock and dismay at Rennels' death. School Board Chairman Mike Moran said officials would wait for the return of Superintendent Phil Long before taking any action. Two other candidates were considered for the part-time principal's position, he added. A memorial for Rennels is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at West Main Church of Christ, 1701 W. Main St., Medford. The service will be followed by a potluck lunch, Bud Rennels said. Truman Rennels is survived by his wife, Glenda, two children and six grandchildren.
Mail Tribune - July 6, 2005
Truman Gene Rennels
The memorial service for Truman Gene Rennels will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7th at West Main Church of Christ, 1701 West Main Street, Medford, Oregon. Truman was born July 28, 1932 in Canute, Oklahoma. He moved to Oregon in 1944 when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Medford High School in 1951 and married Glenda Winner of Ashland in 1955 after meeting on a blind date. Truman is survived by wife, Glenda Rennels, daughter Kimberly Testerman, son Stephen "Bud" Rennels and 6 grandchildren: Allyson, 23; Jordan, 17; Rylan, 16; Jedidiah, 15; and twins Gabriel and Blain, 13. He was a meat cutter for many years and returned to school graduating from Southern Oregon College with an Education degree in business and math in June 1973. Truman taught and coached at Eagle Point Middle School and High School. He became an Administrator and served in the high school as Athletic Director and as a Vice Principal. He became Vice Principal at Little Butte Elementary in Eagle Point. Truman retired in 1999 but continued to work in the education field as a substitute teacher and administrator. He taught a graduate class for Concordia, Northwestern Christian College and George Fox. He was hired in 2005 by the Medford School District to fill the part time position of Principal at Ruch. He enjoyed volunteering for more than 15 years with the Pear Blossom Run. Truman's life was motivated by a strong Christian Faith. It defined his service to church and family. He served as an Elder at West Main Church of Christ where he was strongly involved in the youth programs, church camp and Mexico Missions. He spent the last seven spring vacations on mission trips to build much needed housing in Mexico. Truman was a husband and father first. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. It's difficult to distill a man's life down to one page in an obituary. Good men are not honored enough in our society. To say Truman was a good man is to understate his impact on the lives around him. Truman lived his faith day by day.
