Funeral for Harold Wayland McLemore Sr., 75, of Decatur will be Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dusty McLemore officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.Visitation will be tonight from6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. McLemore, who died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at his residence, was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Limestone County to Alvis Wallace and Cleffa Belle Robinson McLemore. Hegraduated from RiversideHigh School (Decatur High)in 1950. He played footballunder Coach Shorty Ogle. He played from 1948 until 1950 on the Decatur High Championship team with team mem-ber and best friend, WesThompson. Later after graduation, he and Wes joinedmilitary service togetherwhere they served in Korea.He enlisted in 1950 as amember of the U.S. Army1343 combat engineeringdivision and became a corporal and communicationspecialist. He received basic training in Fort Campbell, Ky. Mr. McLemore was deployedto Korea at the beginningof the war where his division landed at Hyundai Beach under heavy attack. He was later wounded and spent three weeks in a MASH unit. He was awarded the Korean service medal and two bronze campaign stars. He was a member of the Decatur Chapter of the VFW.
Upon returning to the states, Mr. McLemore took employment with Decatur Electric Department in 1952 as a lineman and later became superintendent where he retired in 1991. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and studied North Alabama archaeology.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine McLemore; two sons, Harold Wayland McLemore Jr. of Carthage, Texas, and Warren Hayes McLemore of Somerville; and four grandchildren, Casey McLemore, Jill McLemore and Shane McLemore, all of Carthage, Texas, and Brandon McLemore of Somerville.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Miller, Darrell Smith, Ray Robinson, Bruce Shaw, Roddy Taylor and Jay Roberts.
