- Frank attended country school District #80, half a mile east of their farm. His education was considered complete when he had finished six books. He and a teacher were caught outside in the blizzard of January, 1888. With the help of a compass, they were finally able to find a fence and their way home. Frank farmed his entire life, and they lived on the same farm for almost 50 years. (Milligan, p 285).

- Barbora and Frank left Bohemia with their five children in June, 1878. They settled in Nebraska where they were pioneer farmers in both Saline and Fillmore counties. To them were born 17 children, eight of whom survived to reach maturity. Barbora told her children and grandchildren stories about pioneer life. One of the favorite stories was about a family they knew well that lived in a home that was half dugout and half soddie. The mother made a large pot of soup for dinner. The family were seated around the table to be served, but before it could be ladled out, a snake fell threw the soddy roof and into the soup. (Milligan, pp 284 - 285).
