- Came to America in 1874 with his parents and three brothers and two sisters. They came directly to Saline County from New York, and settled on a farm three and one half miles north of Crete where they first lived in a Dugout. The Brt family was known as musical. The father played the "dudy," which resembles a bagpipe. Brother Frank played a bass horn and Vaclav played a Czech trumpet. They played for many weddings dances and social gatherings. (Milligan, p 211).
