Bacon, Benjamin, came from Connecticut in 1774 or '75. Lived in the Allen house at the south end of the Staits and subsequently removed to the gambl-roofed house, afterwards vacated by Martin Graves, 1788, now owned by the Quinn family. He lived with his son, PHILO, and died in 1814, aged 87 years.

April 23. An order was issued for raising two battalions of seven hundred and fifty men each, from Hampshire county, for two months's service at Ticonderoga. A company of fifty-seven men under Capt. Soldier died c1785 and wife Elizabeth is listed in the 1790 Census for
Sampson Co. NC. It is possible that the soldier listed was Abraham
Baggett Jr. Silas Baggett who moved to AL is also listed as a son of
Abraham Baggett.

James Palmer Bailey, 83, entered into the presence and grace of our Lord, Sunday, January 12, 2003, when taken unexpectedly in an auto accident.

He was born April 19, 1919 in Elmina, Texas to William and Lula Bailey. The family moved to Baytown in 1920. Jim attended school at Goose Creek Independent School District. Employed by Exxon as a machinist, he was president of the Machinists Union and was an excellent arbitrator for his co-workers. Jim also loved music and was owner of Baytown According Center. During World War II, Jim was an infantry man, serving his country in the Aleutian Islands for 27 months and then in Germany in active combat. The men in his company called him "Grandpa" due to his age of 25 making him the elder. Jim believed that God spared his life during the war on several occasions because He had plans for him. His vocation was to carry the banner of justice, fighting long and hard for the rights of the people in our court system. Heading the group called C.A.L.M. (Citizens against Lawyer Monopoly); he helped many people through the system and worked hard to right judicial wrongs. He was tireless and passionate in politics, ever astounded at the machinations of an uncompassionate system. A true champion of the common people, Jim disdained arrogance and walked in the ways of humility, a generous and gentle soul. Jesus said, "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill"(Mt. 5, 6). Jim was, is indeed blessed. His most prized possessions were his wife and his eight children, their husbands and wives, and his 21 grandchildren. We will miss him so.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bernice Bailey, his eight children, Terri (Terese) VanMatre and her husband Joe of Spring; Jennifer Diane Sanders and her husband Terry of Mont Belvieu; Donna Grace and her husband Mike of Colleyville; James Bailey, Jr. and his wife Laura of Bellville; Mark Bailey and his wife Donna of Richardson; Lisa LeCates and her husband David of Spring; Stan Bailey of Las Cruces New Mexico and Kristina McGuire and her husband Scott of Eagle Mountain Lake. He is also survived by his grandchildren, John David and Bradley Busiek; Donna (Tappi), Kristen and Jessica Sanders, Ryan, Chelsea, Kelly and Sean Grace, Rhea and Khyle Bailey, Whitney, David, Bradley, Like and Mark Daniel Bailey, James, Matthew and Christopher LeCates; Bailey and Jonathan McGuire. He is also survived by his brother Bob and Dorothy of Bandera; his sisters, Geraldine Crawford of Highlands; Floreine Nalley of Baytown; Frances Lund and her husband Charles of Baytown; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by in-laws, Bob and Peggy Prosen of Mount Iron, Minnesota and Stan and Arlene Prosen of Winona, Minnesota and his life long friend Vernon Tuck of Bastrop.

Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. with vigil service at 7 p.m. today, January 14, 2003 at the chapel of L.A. Crespo Funeral Directors.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1907 Carolina St., Rev. Skip Negley, M.S. celebrant.

Pioneer Cass City Businessman Succumbs Monday

Cass City lost one of its pioneer businessman Monday when Lester Bailey, 79, died at Hills and Dales General Hospital.

He was evidently stricken Wednesday evening. He was found by his daughter, Mrs. Lucille Ranck, Thursday morning after he had collasped on the floor. Mrs. Ranck saw her father on the floor and broke a window to enter the home and secure assistance.

Mr. Bailey suffered a fractured left shoulder in the fall. He has been suffering from anemia and had been in ill health for a year.

Mr. Bailey had been a barber in Cass City for over 60 years and was one of the three oldest businessmen in Cass City.

He started in partnership with Mr. Ball at the Cass City Bank corner and later joined Chester Graham to form the familiar Bailey and Graham Barbershop.

Mr. Bailey was a life member of Tyler Lodge F&AM No. 317 of Cass City.

Born in Ortenville, June 3, 1886, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Bailey. He married Miss Kathryn Zinnecker in Cass City Sept. 12, 1906, and the couple lived here since that time. Mrs. Bailey died June 19, 1943.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) VanWinkle of Milan and Mrs. Ranck of Berkley; two sons, Darwin of Ypsilanti and Clare of Midland; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Little's Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Dr. Marion Hosterler, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Burial was in the family lot in Elkland cemetery.

Abilene - Ruth E. Cutting, of Abilene, died Thursday, January 17, 2008. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Ruth was born March 4, 1911, in Transfer, Pennsylvania, to William and Caroline (Bell) Bailey. After graduating from Brookfield High School, Ruth attended Youngstown City Hospital Nursing School in Youngstown, Ohio where she received a Graduate Diploma Degree (R.N.). After receiving her degree, Ruth married Glenn Cutting on May 31, 1935 at the Wheeler Memorial Methodist Church in Brookfield, Ohio. In 1946, she moved to Abilene from McDonald, Ohio. She was a nurse for Dr. Sellers, Dr. Adamson and Dr. Smith. Ruth was the night supervisor for Hendrick Medical Center. She also worked as the school nurse at McMurry College.

Ruth was equally talented using her nursing skills and serving as Sunday school teacher. She was known to work the night shift at the hospital, then hurry home to change clothes to be prepared to teach her class on Sunday morning. She served as the first President of United Methodist Women (formerly known as Womans Society of Christian Service). One of the first circles was named in her honor and she was selected as the first recipient for a Special Membership Pin.

She was a member of Ester Bible Study and The Ruth Chapter at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Ruth, and her family, were charter members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Glenn D. Cutting, in 1990, one daughter, Elinore South, three brothers, Bob, Boyd and Don Bailey, and two sisters, May Acker and Doris Bailey. Ruth is survived by one daughter, Janice Dunlap Stevens, of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Nelle Alderfer, of McDonald, Ohio; six grandchildren, Tony South and wife Kim, Derrell South and wife Roxanne, Donna Hall and husband Gary, Matt Dunlap, Chris Dunlap, and Josh Stevens and wife Amanda; five great-grandchildren, Patricia South (sic), Meridith South, Trent South, Sydney South, and Melanie South. She is also survived by her very dear friends, who took excellent care of her, Aliceann Phillips and Sue Collins.

Memorials may be made in honor of Ruth to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles Blvd., Abilene, Texas 79605; Journey United Methodist Church in care of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles Blvd., Abilene, Texas 79605; or to the donor's favorite charity.

It is the author's contention that Richard Pace married Mary Baker, the daughter of Richard Baker. The plantation he inherited from his parents was too large for them to manage and a small part of it had been worked for several years. But Richard Pace did not want to, or could not afford to, hire sufficient people to work the place, and Richard Baker gave them 140 acre tract as a dowry for his daughter, with the understanding that his wife, Ann Baker, be allowed to remain at the homeplace for the rest of her life.

After her husbands death, Mary remarried, first to William Briscoe. William was sued several times over debts left by Richard Pace, and this apparently upset him mightly. He and Mary seperated. After his death, Mary Baker Pace Briscoe married a third and final time to a widower by the name of Nicholas Whittmore. 		 STR06

Smith, age 56, widowed, and mother of six children in total, all living. She apparently resumed using the McLemore name after George Smith died, however.

Mrs. Texana Good McLemore, 74 years old, a native Texan, died Saturday at 6:30 o'clock at the home of her son, F.D. McLemore, a few miles east of Ennis, after a two week illness. Mrs. McLemore was born in May, 1863 in Washington county, being almost 75 years of age. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Her father and her husband's father were ministers of that church. Her husband died 44 years ago, leaving her with six small children to rear. He was a Confederate soldier and belonged to Allen's Brigade of Louisiana. She was a wonderful mother and was much loved. Mrs. McLemore made her home with two of her sons, T. R. and F. D. McLemore. T. R. McLemore died last July, since when she has been in the home of F. D. McLemore. Surviving are three sons, W. T. McLemore, Hot Springs, N.M.; F.D. of Ennis, and K.J. of Seymour; two daughters, Mrs. E.D. SIMPSON, McDade; Mrs. W. L. MONTGOMERY, near Crisp, a large number of grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. All her childre were at her bedside when she passed away with the exception of W.T. McLemore of Hot Springs, N.M. who was unable to come. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist Church at Crisp with Rev. Keener of Ennis officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery at Crisp under the direction of J.E. Keever.

Funeral services for Mrs. Texana Good McLemore were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist Church in Crisp with Rev. Keener, retired Methodist minister of Ennis officiating. The church was filled with sorrowing friends and relatives. Burial was made in the cemetery at Crisp under the direction of J.E. Keever. The active pallbearers were Will Hendricks, Oscar Colvin, O.B. Carnal, J.A. Goodman, Ed Littleton, Sam Goble.

No other Ball or Baldwin families are listed on the 1850 or 1860 Census for Sabine County. The census shows Rebecca as being born in Pennsylvania. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 28th, 1938, to Charles and Corrine Balch. "M.E." moved to Dallas in 1958 to become one of American Airlines' first flight attendants and was a long-standing member of the Kiwi Club, a social and charitable group for former and current AA flight attendants. Her professional career was mostly spent passionately in the real estate business. She received a "Million Dollar Award" for top realty sales and later spent many years working with Tom Gilchrist & Co. M.E. was a bridge and tennis player, snow skier, and jazz lover who relished spending time on the beach. She loved her family and friends whole-heartedly and showed that through her gentleness, kindness and patience. "Meme" always had time for her grandchildren and loved spending time with each of them. She was as well a long-time member of Lover's Lane United Methodist Church and participated in social and volunteer organizations around Dallas. M.E. is survived by her family in Dallas: two daughters, Dawn McLemore Kinard and Cathleen McLemore Good; grandchildren, Adam Kinard, Tyler Good, and Peyton Good; sons-in-law, Lewis Kinard and Greg Good; and her brother and sister-in-law of Primm Springs, TN, Charles "Butch" Balch Jr. and Jan Balch. A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 848 Harter Road, Dallas, TX, on Friday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The 1930 San Augustine County, Texas census listeds a 6 year old Charled Baldree as a son in the home of Ed and Mary Baldree, older siblings in the home were Andrea, 16, Orlin 12, C. U. age 10, Cleta 8, and younger siblings Georgie Bell 4, and Allie May 2. Eveyone in the family was shown as born in Texas, as were the fathers of Edd and Mary. Obituary: Ida Baldree Smith

A nearly identical obituary was in the January 22, 2003 Sabine County Reporter

Services for Mrs. Ida Baldree SMITH, 89, were held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 19, 2003, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, Hemphill, with Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Springs, Sabine County.

Mrs. Smith died Friday morning, January 17, 2003 at her daughter's residence in Lufkin after a lenghty illness. She was born April 27, 1913, in Sabine County to Ella GRAY and Jim BALDREE. She resided in Milam most of her life.

She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Mrs. Smith was an avid gardener and took pride in her flowers and vegetables. She was a member of Pendleton Assembly of God Church, Pendleton, La.

She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Reece SMITH; daughters and son-in-laws, Janice and O.B. HUGHES of Center, Jeanell and Morris SHOFNER of Houston, and Brenda ELLIOT of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law Mildard and Johnnie SMITH of Pineland, Lamar and Ruth SMITH of Patroon, Tommy and Juanita SMITH of Pineland; sisters, Mrs. Mabel FRENCH of Anahuac and Mrs. Jimmie KNIGHT of Houston; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; caregivers, Martha WILLIAMS, Debbie WALKER and Debbie GREEN; and her longtime housekeeper, Mary WILLIAMS.

Pallbearers were grandsons; Mickey SMITH, Randy SMITH, Paul SMITH, Steve SMITH, Billy HUGHES and Danny HUGHES.

The family requests memorials to be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904 or to the Pendleton Assembly of God Church, 14152 Texas Hwy, Many, LA 71449, or to Joe W. Elliot House, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

Jeannette was born October 17, 1937, to parents Lou T. (Kerr) Baldree and James Loma Baldree in the Rosevine Community of Sabine County, Texas. Jeanette married the love of her life, the late Gary Davidson, and had celebrated 49 years until his death on July 17, 2005. As an active nursing home administrator, Jeanette was involved in the daily routines and overseeing the care of her residents. She was active in the San Augustine Chamber of Commerce, the Red Hat Ladies, served on the Shelby Savings Bank board of directors, and the San Augustine Memorial Hospital board of directors, and was an active member of First Baptist Church in San Augustine for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Noble and her husband Steve of San Augustine; son, David Davidson and his wife Teresa of San Augustine; her grandchildren, Zach Noble and his wife Tiffani, Kade Noble and his wife Kelli, Jacob Noble, Erin Scarber and her husband Brett, and Cameron Noble; her great-grandchildren, Ace Noble, Kala, Grace and Faith Kirkley, Kace and James Noble, Ian and Archer Chase; Aubree, Evan and Eli Scarber. Very special family friends, Becky Haley and Becky Michalec. Along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved Twin Lakes Care Center family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Lee Davidson; parents, James Loma and Lou T. Baldree; and sisters, Wilma Henson and her husband Jack, and Lucene Westmoreland and her husband Jimmy.

Pallbearers will be Zach Noble, Kade Noble, Jake Noble, Whit Michalec, Brett Scarber, and Benny Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bridges, Phil Sublett, Oliver Boyette, Gil Miller, and the Deacons of First Baptist Church in San Augustine.

Jim Moss, Kade Noble, Whit Michalec and Bro. Skipper Eberlan. Interment will follow in the Rosevine Cemetery located on FM 1 in Sabine County, Texas.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from the hours of 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in San Augustine.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

She leaves her memories to her loving husband of 53 years Travis Young; two sons Robert Martin and Howard Martin; two daughters Connie Edwards and Sandy Terry; grandchildren Chad Martin, Leslie Martin, Joshua King, Kelly Girouard, Katey Hart, Emmeline Foster, and Sarah Edwards; numerous great-grandchildren and many other family members and faithful friends throughout the years.

Funeral Services for Milton W. Baldree, age 91, of Silsbee, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Rosevine United Pentecostal Church in Rosevine with Bro. Homer Looper, Bro. Ronnie Smith, and Bro. Gordon Simmons officiating, with burial following in the Rosevine Cemetery. Visitation will be from the hours of 1 p.m. to 3 p.m Sunday, April 14, 2019. at Rosevine United Pentecostal Church, 8285 Gravelhill Road, Bronson, Texas.

Milton was born to the late Leola (Lemons) Baldree and William Lee Baldree on February 14, 1928, in Sabine County, Texas, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2019, in San Augustine. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, the late Betty (Lacy) Baldree who passed from this life on April 2, 2015. He was a longtime barber serving the community some 65 years. Along with the Baldree family, they operated the Baldree nursing home in San Augustine for some 25 years and Baldree Grocery Store in San Augustine. He, along with his family, was known for their good customer service, he also owned Western Auto in Silsbee for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and taught as a Sunday School Teacher for 60 years, and was a member of the Silsbee First Pentecostal Church in Silsbee.

Those who are left to cherish his memory include, his son, Wesley Baldree and his wife, Sharon of Silsbee; his daughter, Kim Sowell and her husband, Robert Dean of San Augustine; his beloved grandchildren, Daniel Baldree of Silsbee; Matthew Baldree and his wife, Jordan of Houston and Samantha Graber and her husband Evan of Wichita, Kansas and great-grandchild, Hadley Graber of Wichita, Kansas; his beloved brother, Hollis Baldree of Tyler and beloved sister, Joy Marie Smith and her husband, Ronald of Lufkin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leola and Lee Baldree; his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Baldree; beloved son, William Timothy Baldree and loving sister, Yvonne Trumps.

Funeral services for Wilma Dean Hinson, 73, of Groves, formerly of San Augustine, were held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine. Burial followed in the Rosevine Cemetery in Sabine County. Rev. Floyd Wright officiated. She died June 25 in Groves. Wilma Dean Hinson was born November 12, 1932 in Rosevine to James Loma BALDREE and Lou T. KERR Baldree. She was owner/operator of Jack's Corner Grocery in Rosevine and worked as an accountant for many years, along with her sister, Jeanette DAVIDSON, was instrumental in developing Twin Lakes Care Center. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie MORRIS of Lafayette, Louisiana and Pattie BOWSER of Houston; sons Tom BOWSER of Jasper and Greg HINSON of Groves; sisters, Jeanette DAVIDSON of San Augustine and Lurene (s/b LUCENE) WESTMORELAND of Groves; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two killed in separate grinding auto crashes

Two persons were killed and a third remained in critical condition following one of the bloodiest four days on Tuscola county roads in recent memory.

Grant Wesley Ball, 59, of 6806 E. Cass City Road, became the county's seventeenth traffic fatality of 1976 Saturday night when he died from multiple injuries suffered in a car-truck crash at the intersection of Mushroom and Crawford Roads late Thursday evening.

Caro State Police reported Ball was northbound on Crawford Road when his pickup was struck in the driver's side by a car driven by Josephine OLEWSKI, 68, of Decker?.Police said Ball apparently did not stop for the intersection?the force of the crash threw both vehicles into a field?.Ball was taken to Hills and Dales General Hospital reportedly suffering from a punctured lung and several broken ribs. He remained in critical condition until Saturday night when an attempt was made to transfer him to a Saginaw hospital. Ball reportedly died shortly after 9 p.m. en route. Mrs. Olewski was listed in satisfactory condition at Marlette Community Hospital. The accident took place at 4:15 p.m.

Grant Wesley Ball was born February 4, 1917, in Elkland township, son of the late John and Maggie Pitcher BALL. He married Miss Laura CROCKER, July 15, 1938, in Cass City. He was a co-owner and president of Hunt Construction Company of Cass City, and was a member of the Michigan Road Builders Association. He was also a member of Salem United Methodist church and chairman of the Pastor Parish Board. He was a member of the Gavel Club. He was also a former Evergreen township trustee.

Survivors included his widow: two sons, Wesley of Reese and Donald of Cass City; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled Wednesday afternoon from Little's Funeral Home with Rev. Eldred Kelley, pastor of Salem United Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Elkland cemetery. 		 STR06
