Mrs. Clay was born July 25, 1939 in Kirbyville, Texas to the late Minnie Elizabeth (Strickland) and Noah Lee Thacker, and died Friday, November 3, 2017 in Huntington.

Mrs. Clay had resided in Lufkin for 34 years. She served in the U.S. Navy and taught math at Jasper High School and Angelina College for a combined 21 years. Mrs. Clay loved her great-grandchildren the most and enjoyed spending time with her family. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Clay; daughter, Karla Clay; granddaughter, Abby Cla; great-grandchildren, Mason Arnold and Emma Villarreal; sister, Bonnie King; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Audie Ray Smith.

Odell Whittlesey, 80, of Pt. Arthur died Tuesday, June 7.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland. Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pt. Arthur.

Survivors: husband, Henry A. Whittlesey of Hemphill; a daugher, Katherine Johnnie of Bridge City; a son, James Otey of Nederland; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

GLEN ROCK - Alice M. (Thoman) Cramer, 82, of Glen Rock RD 1, died Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital, York. She was the wife of Lawrence A. Cramer. The couple would have observed in August their 64th wedding anniversary.

The service will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Jacob's (Stone) Church, Brodbecks RD 1. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. The Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cramer was born in Manheim Township, the daughter of the late Zacharius and Cora (Krebs) Thoman.

She was a lifetime resident of Manheim Township, and was a member of St. Jacob's (Stone) Lutheran Congregation.

Mrs. Cramer also is survived by two daughters, Virginia M. Williams, Hanover, and Henrietta J. Krenzer, Orange, Va.; a son, Robert D. Cramer, Hanover; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Z. Thoman, Spring Grove RD 2.
Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Richard C. Weaver.

Payne County area schoolteacher Dee Villa Clark of Perkins died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1987 in Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 81. Her funeral is scheduled Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church in Perkins.

Internment will be held in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Charles Wall and the Rev. C. Jeffrey Gill will officiate at the service, which are being arranged by Strode Funeral Home.
Mrs. Clark was born in Ripley on Feb. 4, 1906, the daughter of Edwin V. and Orpha (Phenis) Thomas. She lived in the Ripley area most of her early life, except for a year when her parents lived in Tonkawa.

She married Earl Harrison Clark on Feb. 21, 1934, on her parents farm west of Ripley. The couple lived in or near Stillwater until he retired in 1968 and they moved to Perkins.
She graduated from Oklahoma A & M College in 1930 and earned her teaching certificate. She taught school for 38 years in a number of towns in the area and was a member of the First Christian Church.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband; one son, Arthur Edwin Clark of Oklahoma City; one grandchild; one brother, Wayne Haskell Thomas of Yukon; and one sister, Mrs. Howard (Lorene) Mahurin of Olympia, Wash. 		 STR06

Thomas was born April 14, 1872, at Xenia, Kas., the son of John and Elmira Anson Thomas. He was married to Orpha A. Phenis at Agra Sept. 21, 1904. He was a member of the Christian church and a Knight Pythias. Funeral services will be conducted at the Ripley Christian church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Romans Smith, Stillwater Christian church pastor. Burial will be in the Ripley cemetery under the direction of Vincent funeral home.
Survivors beside the widow included a son, Wayne H. Thomas of Frederick; two daughters, Mrs. DeeVilla Clark of West Plains, Mo. and Mrs. Lorene Mahurin of Stillwater; a brother French L Thomas of Clovis, N.M. 22917 I48597  Thomas  Eilene Marie  20 Apr 1937  25 Jan 2024  0  Eilene Marie Wehr-Rath, 86, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at her home in Lexington.

She was born on April 20, 1937, in Bennet, Nebraska, to Fred and Agnes (Brejcha) Thomas. Eilene attended public school in Bennet and graduated from Bennet High School with the class of 1954. She married Robert (Bob) Snyder in 1955. To this union, two children were born, David and Theresa (Terri). In 1967, she married Veryl Wehr and welcomed his son, Doug. The three kids were raised as one family. After Veryl's death, Eilene married Hugh Rath in 2007. They spent their latter years of life singing to each other, studying the Bible, and just loving one another!

Eilene spent most of her adult career working for Reach Electronics in Lexington. She worked up the corporate ladder from secretary to eventually becoming CEO. During this time, her biggest accomplishment was applying for and having the company awarded the President's "E" Award for Exports from the US Government. She got to dine at the White House with then President Ronald Reagan. After Reach closed their doors, she moved on to work for Veetronix, a subsidiary of Reach. She would tell her kids, "I'm just a little ole' kid from a little ole' town with no college education. I just can't believe the opportunities I've had in my life!" She retired early when her husband, Veryl, became ill and needed around-the-clock care.

Eilene loved spending time with her family, cooking, boating, being at the lake, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed needlework and doing plastic canvas. She gave many of the things she made away. In her younger years, you would find her sunbathing or boating at Johnson Lake, but as she aged, she liked watching Andy Griffith or Looney Tunes on tv, relaxing outside, and taking naps! She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Doug Wehr of Kearney, David (Linda Kingham) Snyder of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Theresa (Terri) Casper of Lexington; step-children, Steve (Linda) Rath of Elwood, Nebraska and Mike (Amanda) Rath of Whitney, Nebraska; sister, Phyllis (Ralph) Steward of Bennet, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany) Wehr, Christopher (Claudia) Wehr, Daniel (Felicia) Snyder, Alyssa (Ryan) Benson, Julie (Sean) Urban, Mary Beth (Clint) Stoll, Curt Casper, Becki (Tom) Hoffman, Eric Casper and Blake (Courtney Patterson) Casper; fifteen great-grandchildren with two more on the way, special friend Sue Berndt who cared for her so lovingly the last several years, as well as many extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband Robert (Bob) Snyder, husband, Veryl Wehr, and husband, Hugh Rath; brothers, John Thomas and Bill Thomas; sister, Vivian Thomas, son-in-law Craig Casper, stepchildren, Debra Smith, Ron Rath, and Beverly Dyke.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating. The service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Inurnment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, with refreshments following at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington.

Iles and wife, Angela, also of Hemphill; brothers, Charles Ray Thomas and wife, Francis, of Lewisville, Texas; sister, Norma Lee Martin and husband, Joe Clinton Martin, of Hemphill; grandchildren, Danny Iles of Lufkin, Chris Iles of Nacogdoches, Caitlyn Iles of New Caney, and Makenna Iles of Hemphill; and many nephews and nieces.

22921 I29732  Thomas  Gordon Lawrie  4 Dec 1914  15 Oct 1997  0  Volume 5 of the STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, dated September 1, 1941, reported that Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Thomas were set to leave for Coral Gables, Florida, where Mr. Thomas would be an instructor in the University of Miami.

In the STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, Volume 9, September 2, 1946, in a column titled "Our Service Men Who Have Returned Home", it was noted that Gordon L. Thomas 'after three years' service in U.S., Italy, France and England. He is now an instructor at Michigan State College.'

The Striffler-Benkelman Broadcast, Volume 11, published September 6, 1948, reported that he was attending Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill. while on a leave of absence from Michigan State College. Volume 15 of the same periodical, published September 1, 1952, noted that he received his Ph.D. degree in speech from Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois. It was further noted that he and his family had moved to a new home in East Lansing, Michigan.

Volume 22 of the same periodical, dated September 7, 1959, reported that the family spent three months during the last winter in Mexico. Much of their time was spent travelling, with visits to Mexico City, Vera Cruz, Oaxaca, Cuernavaca, Puerto Vallarta and a small fishing village. Mr. Thomas was on a sabbatical leave from Michigan State University. Volume 23 reported he had been recently re-elected to his second term as Mayor of the City of East Lansing. Volume 26 of the same periodical reported that Gordon, Phyllis and Kathleen had spent three months driving their own car through a number of European countries, including Russia and Poland. Volume 28 reported they had again spent their summer traveling by car throughout Europe. 		 STR06 
22922 I14097  Thomas  Iredell Dickinson  Abt 1805  Abt 1866  0  Iredell Thomas was an early settler in the area, arriving in east Texas with his parents and siblings around 1828. He built the first store in the newly established town of San Augustine in 1833, and it became one of the largest mercantile businesses in town. A leading citizen of the area, Thomas amassed considerable wealth and land holdings as a businessman and planter. During the Texas Revolution he participated in the siege of Bexar and served as secretary of the San Augustine Committee of Vigilance and Safety.

At the time of the 1860 census, brother-in-law Matthew Cartwright had real estate at $500,000 and personal property near $75,000, with only 13 slaves. Henson and Parmelee point out by way of contrast that brother-in-law and "planter" William Garrett estate, included 132 slaves, and that "Farmer-Merchant" Iredell D. Thomas had $166,000 in accumulated wealth, and 52 slaves. (Henson and Parmelee, "The Cartwrights of San Augustine," p. 191).

In the book "Becoming Bourgeois: Merchant Culture in the South, 1820-1865" (Frank Byrne, The University Press of Kentucky, 2006, available on Google Books), the author writes that both of Iredell's sons "went on to serve in the Confederate army for the remainder of the war. Later both gained a measure of political notoriety in postwar Texas, James as a senatorial candidate in 1877 and Iredell (Jr.) as a leading organizer of the Ku Klux Klan in San Augustine."

Floyd in STRICKLAND SCENE Vol 2, No 1 First Quarter 1981 (Strickland Research, Inc. 1661 Laurancae Way, Riverdale, GA 30296): "Alexander Thompson, Sr. was born 1739 and died 1815 in Madison County. He married Elizabeth Hodge (1745-1820). They are buried near Thompson's Mill, but no grave markers have been found by the writer.

Alexander Thompson, Sr. was a Revolutionary War soldier. He received a scalp wound at the battle of King's Mountain which left a permanent scar.

Alexander Thompson moved his family from Burke County, NC, to Wilkes County, GA in 1788. His sister and her husband, William McDaniel, also came to Wilkes County at this time. (Later he) moved to a place on the east side of South River across from his son's home (James Thompson, Sr.). This was in Elbert County at that time. They built substantial log houses for their families. Alexander Thompson, Sr. built a dam across South River at the shoals. A grist mill and a saw mill were constructed and were operated by water power. His will states that he also had cotton machines. In the book, OUR KIN by Manning, it is written that this was the first grist mill in north Georgia. Lumber was sawed at the mill from primeval timber to build the two story home of Alexander Thompson, Sr.

He was on the first Superior Court Jury list after Madison County was formed in 1812. He was a member of the first Board of Road Commissioners from Danielsville District in 1812. He bought one of the lots at auction onthe Court House Square in Danielsville, which were sold for funds to build a courthouse.

A plantation of 1900 acres was operated by the Thompson family. Several slaves were owned by family members. The mills and farms were operated for several generations by descendants of Alexander Thompson.

Listed on page 623 are names of revolutionary soldiers who recieved money and those who received land warrants. On page 640, Alexander Thompson and Solomon Strickland, father of Thompson's daughter-in-law Eunice are listed as receiving land warrants. Alexander received land in Washington Co, GA. He was wounded in the Battle of King's Mountain.

Alexander Thompson and his two sons, James and William, were from Burke County, NC and settled on the South Fork of the Broad River about 1790. Alexander Thompson located on the place now owned and occupied by his grandson, Dr. Berry M. Thompson, and built the first mill on the place. He was a man then somewhat advanced in life.

From HISTORY OF PIKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, 1798-1876, by L.W. Conerly: The Thompson ancestors were from Scotland. Some of them settled in New York, North Carolina and Georgia. Alexander Thompson, Sr and son James, fought in the battle of King's Mountain. he was wounded in the head. A man named Griffith was hot and when Thompson stooped to raise him up a ball stuck him in the forehead, passed over his head under the scalp and came out at the back of his neck, leaving a scar were hair was prevented from growing. 		 STR06

Alexander Thompson settled on the place on which John Hopkins lived and died. He was a most excellent man and was one of the first elders of the Presbyterian church of Danielsville before its removal to town, when it stood two miles south of town and was known as Pisgah church. About 1820, Alexander Thompson, Jr. sold his place near Danielsville to a Mr. Towns, and removed to Mississippi, and the subsequent history of him and his family is unknown to me. Arthur Lee "Heavy" Thompson, age 84, of Lexington, Alabama, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Thompson was a native of Lauderdale County, Alabama, owner of A.L. Thompson Builders Supply and a member of Lexington United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Lexington United Methodist Church. Phil Springer, Kenny Baskin and Sam Hayes will be officiating. Burial will follow in Barnett Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014, at Lexington United Methodist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Stella Martha Smith Thompson, Lexington, Alabama; one son, Mickey Thompson and wife, Regina, Lexington, Alabama; one daughter, Martha Lee Mitchell and husband, Kim, Lexington, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Nellerene Thompson, Lexington, Alabama;Six grandsons, Todd and Alanna Sullivan, Chase Sullivan, Heath Thompson, Logan Thompson, Jacob and Amber Mitchell, Lauren and Justin Bowen; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Sullivan and Silas Mitchell; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.M. "Mac" and Ollie Thompson, and two brothers, J.O. "Orbie" Thompson and W.M. "Billy" Thompson.

Loretto Memorial Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.

Affectionately referred to as Mr. Heavy, A.L. Thompson was a beloved resident of Lexington, Alabama, a community he deeply cherished. Many know him for the business he began in 1957, A.L. Thompson Builder's Supply, but the people of Lexington know he was much more than a local business owner. He was both the actual and honorary father, grandfather, and friend to all he met.

Loving husband, faithful friend and Lexington High School's number one fan, Mr. Heavy represented the best of what Lexington had to offer. He assisted any in need that he met, supported his family to ensure their happiness and success, and gave out more than a few quarters to the young people lucky enough to get a hug from Heavy. "Don't spend it all in once place!" A.L. loved his church, helped start the first fire department of Lexington, and was a charter member of the Lexington Lion's Club. No matter who he met, they were treated as family.

Although Mr. Heavy will not be selling lumber, frequenting LHS sporting events, or making us laugh with his witty one-liners, his impact on all of us will not pass. He has touched the community and forever improved it with the nondiscriminatory openness and love he shared with all. It is notable that Mr. Heavy passed away on Father's Day weekend, as his fatherly example is one that has blessed the community for decades and will continue to serve as a model toward which to strive.

Pallbearers will include Terry Thompson, Rodney Jones, Billy Don Thompson, Tommy Springer, Sam Newton, Mark Hammond, Kyle Davis and Zach Bunnell (representing all past and present youth, so special to Mr. Heavy).

Honorary pallbearers will include Ted Hammond, Steve Johnson, Tommy Smith, Jim Smith, Wilmer Springer, Rickey Littrell, Spencer Michael, Kevin Pettus, Bobby McGuire and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

In HISTORICAL SKETCHES, PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES AND EARLY SETTLERS IN NORTHEAST GEORGIA, p 72-76, it is noted that: "James Thompson had in his young manhood fought the British and Tories at Cowpens, King's Mountain, and Guilford Court House. He married after the war, Sarah, the daughter of the widow Saye, whose husband had been killed in the Battle of Savannah, Ga, on the 9th of October 1779. James Thompson and his wife, Sarah, raised two sons and several daughters. Two of their daughters became wives of the two Carringtons, the sons of Rev. Timothy Carrington, a Baptist Minister, and perhaps the first pastor of Lystra Church. From these two daughters of James Thompson are numerous Carringtons now residing in Madison County and elsewhere. James Thompson's youngest daughter, then somewhat advanced in life, became the wife of John Bell, of Hall County, GA, a nephew of old Jim Bell. 		 STR06

Sundays were spent in religious study at the Hagan home. Jimmie ran away from Hagan when he was 13. He crossed the sea into Scotland with a merchant friend. He met a John Alexander who hired Jimmie to plow for him. The Alexanders were Presbyterians and they took Jimmie into their home and reared him. He was sent to his first formal school. John Alexander had one child, a daughter Ruth. Jimmie fell in love with Ruth and they wanted to marry. Her parents did not allow this until Ruth was 18 and Jimmie 21. The John Alexander and James Thompson families emigrated from Scotland to America about the 1730s. They settled about 20 mile west of Philadelphia, PA" from Calvin G. Floyd, THOMPSON MILL HISTORY.

James Orbie Thompson, 92, died at 5 p.m. Feb. 13, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 9, 1919, in Lexington, Ala., to Mac and Ollie McGuire Thompson, who preceded him in death. On May 5, 1943, he married Evelyn Berdene Heidlebaugh, who survives.

Mr. Thompson was owner of Thompson Trucking and had worked at Toledo Pipe, DOT Lines and as a welder at Ex-Cell-O. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques.

Survivors also include a son, James L. (Noi) Thompson, of Thailand; two daughters, Barbara (Carl) Kidd, of Columbus, and Beth Ann (Ted) Kray, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two brothers, William (Nellarene) Thompson and Arthur Lee (Stella) Thompson, both of Lexington, Ala.; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Bergin.

Services will begin at noon Thursday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Mark Walls and the Rev. Carl Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, with military rites.

PAMPA-Traffic Accident Fatal for Child

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon for Robert D. Thompson, 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson, who was killed at 12:25 Tuesday afternoon in the streets of Pampa. This was the first traffic fatality in the city of Pampa this year. Services will be held in the First Baptist Church in Pampa with the Rev. E. Douglas Carver, pastor the church, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery with the Duenkel-Carmichael funeral home in charge of the arrangements. Officers reported that the small child was playing about 50 yards from his home and ran from behind a parked car into the path of an automobile driven by J.B. Massa, co-owner of the Soft Water Service Company. The child died instantly. Attending physicians reported that the young boy died of a skull fracture. The child is survived by his parents; one sister, Dorothy; grandparents, Mrs. A.P. Thompson of Breckenridge, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin W. Ruth Thompson, dgt. of Alexander Thompson and Elizabeth Hodge of Elbert Co. GA, married about 1787 to Henry Strickland, b. 1766, N.C., d. Madison County, GA Feb 1817. Henry was the son of Solomon Strickland and Amy Pace.

In the 1820 census of St. Helena Parish, LA., Ruth Stricklin appears as a widow over 45 yrs of age, has 1 boy age 18-25, 2 girls 16-25, 1 boy and 1 girl 10-15 yrs of age.

On 10 Apr 1823, Ruth Strickling married Benjamin Bagley in Amite County, MS.

On 29 Oct 1824, Benjamin Bagley and wife, sold to Elizabeth White, chattel (probably a slave) in Amite County, MS. Conveyance Book I, page 2, p.68.

On 28 Sep 1826, Benjamin Bagley sold to K. & R. Strickland in Amite County, land Conveyance Book 2, p.172

Benjamin Bagley had probably been married before his marriage to Ruth as he appears in the 1810 Amite County census with a family. He received a land grant in Amite County on 21 Dec 1811, Township 3 North, Range 13 East, Section 24, 505 acres. He received another land grant in Amite County, MS. on 15 Oct 1816, Township 3North Range 6 East. This 2nd land grant was assigned to Josiah Powell on 1 July 1827 which may be a sign that Benjamin and Ruth moved.... or it could just be that he sold the land.--(Patricia Ezell)

The BAGLEY family does not appear in the 1850 census for Amite, Wilkinson, or Franklin Counties, MS, nor do they appear in the 1850 census for St.Helena, East or West Feliciana.
A number of the STRICKLAND children were in the 1850 St.Helena Parish census: Cade, James and Willis (at least).
There is no succession record for Ruth Thompson, Ruth Stricklin, or Ruth Bagley in the St.Helena Parish records.
One curious thing is how did Ruth Thompson from GA to MS? With whom did she come? Henry Stricklin died in 1817 in Madison County, GA. (at least according to Albert Casey's book, AMITE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI AND ITS ENVIRONS, p. 589. It's probably that she came with some of her adult children who had already married while still living in GA., i.e. , like Elizabeth STRICKLAND who married Edward WHITE about 1814 in Elbert County, GA, Nancy STRICKLAND who married Grant Rice TAYLOR in Madison Co. GA on 19 Sep 1818, Willis H. STRICKLAND who married Amy in 1816 in Madison Co.GA (this family went to Tangipahoa LA where he founded Tangipahoa Baptist Church). 		 STR06

Toy May Gentry, 93, of Duncan, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in Duncan Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with her nephew, Don Pogue, officiating, assisted by her family. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gentry was born March 2, 1913, near Duncan. She married William T. Gentry on May 23, 1931 in Gatlin. He preceded her in death. She retired from Universal Life Insurance Co., where she served as head underwriter for 25 years. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Duncan since 1927. She enjoyed spending time with her family, socializing with her friends and traveling.
Survivors include a son, Charley Gentry of Duncan; a sister, Ruth Pogue of Ringling; two grandchildren: Chris Gentry and Tara Gentry, both of Laguna Beach, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Gentry of Duncan; nieces and nephews: Don and Suzanne Pogue of Ringling, Charlene and Dwayne Pollock of Duncan, Kay and Paul Sanders of Little Rock, Ark.; and the family of Bill Pogue of Ringling. She leaves behind her dearly beloved companion, a bull mastiff, Bo.
Bearers will be Cody Pogue, Jim Ed Pogue, Jeff Sowards, Rodney Pollack, Randy Pollack and Chris Gentry.

Funeral services for William Hilton Thompson, 76, of Route 1, Broaddus, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 1994, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Chapel in San Augustine with Bro. Jim Moss officiating. Interment followed at Hebron Cemetery.

He died Friday, Oct. 14, 1994, at Colonial Pines Care Center in San Augustine.

Thompson was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Gloster Mississippi, and had lived on FM 705 the past several years. He was a retired bookkeeper and served in the 11th Armored Division of the U.S. Army.

Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Corene Thompson of Hebron; a son, Tommy Thompson of Beaumont; two brothers, Donald Thompson of Gloster and G. H. Thompson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and two grandsons, David Thompson and John Thompson, both of Beaumont.

William M. "Billy" Thompson, 85, of Lexington died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Huntsville Hospital.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2013, from 6-8 PM at Elkins East Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, February 15, 2013, at Elkins East Chapel with Bro. Wendell White and Bro. Jimmy Grisham officiating. Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a retired pipefitter and was a member of Local #377 and a member of Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents JM "Mac" and Ollie Thompson; brothers Orbie and Orville Thompson; and sister, Frances Bergin.

Billy is survived by his wife Nellarene Thompson; daughter, Debbie Simpson (Derrick); sons, Terry Thompson (Jane) and Billy Don Thompson; brother, A.L. "Heavy" Thompson (Stella); grandchildren, Blake Thompson and Isabella Thompson.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy White, Jackie Tate, Mickey Thompson, Phillip Haynes, Jimmy McMasters, and Ronald Dale Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be David White, Bobby McGuire, William Howard, and Bobby Gene Butler.

The family would like to thank Dr. Wampler, Dr. Little, Dr. Mokulis, and staff at the VA Clinic.

Darien Eugene Thomsen was born January 16, 1926 to Emil & Dora (Christensen) Thomsen on the family farm 3 miles west of Cordova, Nebraska. He passed away on October 2, 2020 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 17 days.

Darien was baptized April 11, 1926 at the Danish Lutheran Church in Cordova. He grew up on farms in York & Fillmore County through the 8th grade. He attended high school in Exeter and graduated in 1943.

Darien worked at various jobs after graduation including driving a truck working wheat harvest, at the Burlington railroad yard in Lincoln, Nebraska and at the Fairmont Airbase.

He was united in marriage to Betty Sluka on January 30, 1949 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran parsonage in Geneva with the Rev. D. Grummert officiating. Because of the extreme snow that winter, only four people could attend the wedding.

Darien then started farming and lived on the same farm until he moved to Heritage in 2012. He was proud of the work he did on his own to improve the farm through the years.

Darien liked people. He liked to tease and always had a joke or a puzzle to have you try to figure out. In his younger years, he liked to hunt and fish. He also liked to do wood working and making things for people. He enjoyed travelling and visiting family. After the children were grown, he and Betty travelled many winters to Arizona to visit two of his uncles and aunts who spent winters there.

He and Betty liked to entertain too. Besides holidays with family, there were many card parties with friends. In the early years, everyone had children at home so there were usually more kids than adults at these parties. The kids would play together or play the card game, spoons. What a noisy bunch.

Since no one could attend their wedding on account of snow, they had a big celebration on their 25th and 50th wedding anniversary. Their 50th anniversary was on a particularly warm day.

Darien loved to go to garage sales and auctions, and he had many collections. More than anything else, he loved his family and friends. He always enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and in the later years his great grandchildren.

Darien's family said he was like a cat with 9 lives because he had some close calls through the years. The 9 passed by, they knew he was a man with a lot of experiences that kept his guardian angel busy.

Darien was a member of the Fairmont Community Church in Fairmont, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dwaine Thomsen; wife Betty Thomsen; son Steven Thomsen; daughter Gayla Probasco; granddaughter Kari Probasco; and brothers-in-law Paul Bulwan and Irvin Sluka.

He is survived by his son Gene & Connie Thomsen of Lincoln, Nebraska; son-in-law George Probasco of Arapahoe, Nebraska; sister Dolores Bulwan of York, Nebraska; sister-in-law Olga Sluka of Geneva, Nebraska; grandchildren Todd & Heather Probasco of Fairmont, Nebraska, Ryan & Lindsay Probasco of Broomfield, Colorado, Erin & August Portz of Appleton, Wisconsin, Jennifer Thomsen of Omaha, Nebraska, Jason & Laura Thomsen of Lincoln, Nebraska; great grandchildren Grace, Tripp, & Daniel Probasco of Fairmont, Nebraska, Aynslea & Delaney Portz of Appleton, Wisconsin, Avery, Brooke, Hailey, & Blake Thomsen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Harper Probasco of Denver, Colorado; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Threlkeld died May 24, 1999, at a Dallas nursing home. He was born May 4, 1908, at Francis, Okla. to Dr. William Rolle and Ida Trawick Threlkeld. He came to this area in 1912 and attended Ada High School. He graduated from East Central State College with a bachelor's degree, and he received his master's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1941. He was co-owner and operator of Threlkeld Brothers Pickle Company in Ada with his brothers Robert and Emory. He was also co-owner of Threlkeld Farms west of Ada. He was a charter member of the Southwest Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 20 years. He also taught Bible classes. He was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1942 until 1956. He moved to Dallas in 1990. He and Bettie Droke were married Jan. 20, 1937. She died June 2, 1989. Survivors include two sons, James C. Threlkeld Jr., Mesquite, Texas, and Gary Threlkeld, Littleton, Colo.; two granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Bearers are Riley Young, Leo Sims, Norman Bullock, Glendel Hatton, Tommy Myers and James Coffey. Honorary bearers are John Lee, Wayne King, Butch Platt, Johnny Ray, Bill Bailey and Gary Littleton. MARY FAIGLE Hill Rolls, N.M.----Graveside services for Mary Bartlett Faigle, 80, High Rolls, are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Ada, Okla. Mrs. Faigle died May 23, 1998, at her home. She was born June 29, 1917, at Francis, Okla. to Dr. William Roly and Ida Trawick Threlkeld. She graduated from Ada high School and attended East Central State College in Ada, OK. She operated an independent insurance agency in New Mexico and was a member of the Cuba Avenue Church of Christ. She and Dr. Martin H. Bartlett were married in July 1935. After his death, she married Dr. Ernest T. Faigle in 1964. He died in 1973. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Benedict, Sapulpa, Okla., Diane Weller Hitchcock, Boulder, Colo., Margaret McCarthy, Dallas, Texas, and Deborah Ackerman, Ruidoso; two stepchildren, James C. Faigle and Lin Vann, both of Albuquerque; a brother, Creston Threlkeld, Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Nell Bartlett. Criswell Funeral Home, Ada, Okla. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Threlkeld died Februay 17, 1995 at a local nursing home. He was born January 9, 1904 at Alma to Dr. W.R. and Ida Trawick Threlkeld.

He attended Francis Schools and two years at East Central State Teacher's College. He moved to this area in 1920 from Francis and was retired as co-owner of Threlkeld Brothers's Pickle Factory and Threlkeld Farms. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ and Ada Masonic Lodge, 119 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. He was a veteren of the US Army, serving 1941-1944.

Survivors include a brother, J. Creston Threlkeld, Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Kathryn Russell, Commerce, TX and Mary Faigle of High Rolls, N.M.

Bearers are Bobby Johns, Fred Hopper, Jerry Droke, Glendel Hatton, Elmer Gerth, and Haskell Hill.

Alma, May 2: Dr. THREILKILD returned from school.

Obituary: Dr. William Roly Threkeld, 94, 600 W 16th (Ada, OK) died early Wednesday in a local hospital. The pioneer physician's medical career spanned more than 70 years. Services are scheduled for Friday at 2 pm in the Southwest Church of Christ. Floyd Davis and Richard Jones will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park. Dr Threkeld was born May 1, 1877 in Delight, Arkansas. Even as a youngster, he planned on a medical career and began his studies while still in High School. His first medical instruction was taken at Little Rock and he was certified to practice in 1898. He came to Indian Territory in that same year, and began his practice in the Velma Alma area. While practicing there, he met his wife. They were married December 23, 1900. She died in 1948.

Later in 1898, Dr. Threlkeld moved his practice to Center. In 1903, he made another move to Francis. He continued his studies and in 1904 was graduated from the Barnes College in St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Threlkeld remained in Francis until 1919 until he moved to Ada. He was in Francis during the great flu epidemic in World War I and recalled tht during the height of the epidemic he went three days and three nights without sleep. He began his practice in horse and buggy days but in 1916 purchased his first car.

Dr. Threkeld maintained an office in downtown Ada until 1958 when he moved his offices to his home. He continued to practice medicine and always said that he "never" planned to retire. In 1967, he was honored on his 90th birthday at a special open house where his many friends and members of his family gathered.

Dr. Threkeld was a dedicated churchman and served his church as elder for many years. He is survived by three sons, Robert, of the home, Emeory C. and J. Creston, both of Ada; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Faigle of Alamogordo, NM, and Mrs. Kathryn Russell, Commerce, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be Melvin McMillin, Kenneth Clinton, Dale Roberts, Virgil Howard, Emmett Hudson and Elmer Gerth.

In REFUGIO, Hobart Huson called "Alfred S. Thurmond the hero of Mier (Mexico)." Several companies were captured and taken prisoner. The President of Mexico decreed that one out of ten of the prisoners were to be shot. Alfred Thurmond was required to interpret the decree to his fellow prisoners (Brown: History of Texas). All 173 prisoners drew beans, black and white. The 17 men who drew black beans were all shot. Capt. Cameron and Alfred S. Thurmond were manacled together, and marched into Mexico City, where Capt. Cameron was shot. Cameron had drawn a white bean, but the Mexicans hated him, so he was shot anyway. This is in spite of the fact he was a British subject. (From "300 Years in Victoria County" by Roy Grimes). Note: It was Capt. Ewin Cameron's company in which J. McGrue, pvt, was enlisted. This is most likely John McGrew, son of Alexander and Elizabeth Blackburn McGrew.

Huson (Vol. II, page 135) goes onto say that "there were at least three prominent citizens who felt they could no longer live in a land ruled by the dam-Yankees. These unreconstructed and unreconstructale rebels were (Smith, Coleman) and the old Texian veteran, Captain Alfred Sturgis Thurmond. Capt. Thurmond was drowned when the ship on which he was bound for Mexico (where he was going to settle) was wrecked of the Texas Coast." 		 STR06

THURMOND FUNERAL PENDS ARRIVAL OF SON FROM GERMANY

Funeral Services for D.S. Thurmond, 64, Hatch, who died Monday are pending the arrival of his son, Graham Funeral Home Reported.

Mr. Thurmond, a farmer, Hatch, died suddenly Monday morning.

His son is Lt. William Thurmond, expected here from his station in Stuttgart, Germany sometime tommorrow.

Other survivors include two brothers and two sisters. 		 STR06
