The parish records transcribed on page 91 show her parents as Joh. Jacob H?fner, Bauer in Aichenbach, and Magdalena B?hler. She stated that Eva H?fner remarried in 1789, a year after Jacob's death, and it appears she may have married a relative, and in 1795 she was divorced, apparently by a husband who preferred a woman who would be (and was) willing to bear his children. On page 93 of her manuscript, it is shown that Eva's second marriage was to Jacob B?hler, employed as a vintner. In a footnote, BonnieMargaret said that German law on hereditable properties provides a possible explanation for Eva remarriage and subsequent divorce. Citizens did not own their land, but it was the lease of that land that was heriditable. In some areas of Germany, a widow had to be remarried within a year of her husband's death to retain the tenenancy on the land. Her remarriage falls within that time frame, and her divorce was at the time her son Johann Jacob achieved master and citizen status. Thus it is probable that the marriage, apparently to a relative, was a marriage of convenience to retain the land tenancy for her children at their ages of majority. (p. 54). |

Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday July 3, 1992 at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by paul L. Nachtigail. Interment will be in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, OK under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Haden, 49, of Timpson, succumbed Saturday night about 9;15 o'clock at a hospital in Orange. The body was brought to Timpson Sunday afternoon and carried to the family residence. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Christian church. Rev. Pearce J. Burns and Rev. J. T. Howard will conduct rites. A military service will be conducted by members of the local post of the American Legion and World War veterans. Interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Haden was a life-long residen of TImpson, and was a sergeant of the infantry in World War I. He unite dwith the Christian church in early youth. For the past several months he had been employed at Orange; several days illness preceded his demise. The death of this estimable citizne is a source of much regret to his many friends. Mr. Haden is survived byh his his wife, Mrs. George M. Haden; two sons---William and Ferdinand, and two daughters, Misses Minette and Anita Ray of Timpson; two brothers--A.E. Haden of Shreveport and J. F. Haden of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. George Kennedy of Nacogdoches, Mrs. A. D. Scherz of Keatchie, La., and Miss Madian Haden of Nacogdoches. M'Gee (sic), who was the murderer of Raleigh Hightower. http://www.legendsofamerica.com/WE-WilliamMcGrew2.html "Bill" was only two years old when his father was ambushed, and his mother Nancy Hainsworth McGrew Phillips did not maintain such an honorable family reputation. In the "Voice of Sumter," August 9, 1836, she was denounced by Regulators, as a "Jezebel" for harboring mixed Indians and borderers among her clan, and for aiding and abetting the Kemp-McGrew feud. The article by Louis C. Gaines called for her to be driven from the country, but she said she would "die on the grit." Evidently, she did choose to return to Texas. She had been listed in the failed Wavell's colony in Texas in 1830, causing her to remain in Alabama, but 1850 she was in Leon County, Texas, whether by choice or force is unknown. |

After Dallas's death in 1999, Irma moved to McCool Jct. to be near her family. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Sue) Volkmer, McCool Jct.; daughters, Linda (Alan) Galaway, McCool Jct.; and Kaye (Jim) Weakland, Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard; her husband, Dallas; and her daughter, Debra. Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday (09/11/09) at United Church of Christ in Exeter, Nebraska, with burial at the Exeter Cemetary. He and his older brother John were living in the household of Fred BIBA at the time of the 1930 census, along with five or six other Czech laborers. Joe was drafted on March 24, 1942, and took his basic training at Camp Barkley, Texas. He was part of the Normandy invasion, landing on Utah Beach on D-Day, at which time he was wounded. He was hospitilized in England for many months afterwords. The medics were unable to assist him until the next day. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Infantry Combat Badge, ETO Ribbon with two bronze stars, Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Overseas Bar, three year service bar, and Bronze Arrowhead. After the war, Joseph worked in road construction, which took he and his family all over Nebraska and parts of Kansas. They spent the winters in Milligan with Evelyn's mother, Lillian FRYCEK. Halbert was a member of the American Legion, Sons of the Republic of Texas, and Gideons International. He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church. Survivors: son, Robert C. Halbert and wife Wila of Cedar Park; daughters, Janet Coffey and husband Donald of Arlington and Mary E. Pennington and husband, Sever of Weatherford; sisters, Syble Russell and Mary Love, both of Houston, and Betty Rhoden of Victoria; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Obituary, copied from the FindAGrave memorial created by Joseph Lilly. From the Athens Weekly Review Newspaper dated May 10, 1945 H.B. Halbert Dies: Funeral Held Thursday --- H.B. Halbert, well known business man and a former partner of Jess Miller of Athens in the tomato and cotton business, died Wednesday at his home in Frankston. He had been in ill health for two years. Mr. Halbert was a farmer and cotton buyer and shipper of the Frankston Community, and has held the Ford agency for the last twenty-two years. He was a member of the school board, and was instruemental in the construction of the Baptist Church of Frankston. He was fifty seven years of age. Surviving are his wife: three sons, Eddie Halbert of Jacksonville, H.B. Halbert Jr. of Frankston, and Pfc. Gaylon Halbert somewhere in the Pacific; four daughters, Mrs. J.H. Roberts of Thomasville, Alabama, Mrs. James M. Saunders of Frankston, and Miss Jean Halbert and Miss Lynn Halbert of Frankston; four grandchildren, and one brother, C. B. Halbert of Zwolle of Louisiana. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Baptist Church in Frankston. The services were conducted by the Rev. Wade O. Skinner, pastor of the church, and the Rev. A.G. Hollonquist of Rusk. Burial was in the Resthaven Cemetery, Jacksonville with Masons in charge at the grave. |

Halbert Jr., M.D., 77, of Round Rock, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011, at the scene of a one-car collision near Jewett, Texas. A celebration of H.B.'s life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Texas. Dr. Halbert was born in Frankston, Texas, to the late H.B. Halbert Sr. and Mattie Petri Halbert. After H.B.'s graduation from Frankston High School in 1950, an athletic scholarship led him to Schreiner College in Kerrville. Then his appointment to the United States Military Academy took him to West Point, N.Y. Deciding to pursue a medical degree, H.B. transferred to the University of Texas at Austin to complete his undergraduate studies. He graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School, and took his internship and residency at Methodist and Parkland Hospitals. His medical specialization was Family Practice. He spent the next 48 years pursuing his lifelong passion. For over 30 years, Dr. Halbert served the community of Rosebud, Texas, providing care from cradle to grave at the facilities he established, Halbert Clinic, Halbert Hospital, and Heritage House Nursing Home. It is estimated that during this time, he delivered about 3,000 babies. Patients of this era will remember his standard wardrobe: green scrubs, red socks. After leaving Rosebud, Dr. Halbert practiced in Whitney, Burkburnett, Frankston, Huntsville, Sealy, and Pasadena. Highly competitive, H.B. took pleasure in many sports and games. Although an avid fan of the Longhorns and the Cowboys, he always held a keen interest in high school football as well. H.B. was deeply honored when Rosebud-Lott asked him to return as team doctor for their state championship game in 2002, which the Cougars won. An enthusiastic hunter, he typically had a bird dog. Anyone who played bridge or "42" with him soon learned that he could count cards and see through dominoes. H.B. was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie Halbert and Gaylon Halbert; and sisters, Irene Tatum, Virginia Saunders, and Jean Baron. He is survived by his wife, DeAnn Halbert, of Round Rock; children, Leslie Higgins and Laura Halbert, of Austin, Robin Polk, of Rosebud, Adrianne Charfoos, of Chicago, Ill., Richard Halbert and Elizabeth Thigpen, of Chilton, Kristen Ryder, of Oakwood, and Will Halbert and Kirill Halbert, of Trinity; eight grandchildren; sister, Lynne Orr, of Jacksonville; and scores of nieces and nephews. She was born the fifth of nine children to Levi Thompson Halbert and Mary Ann Armstrong Halbert on Sept. 23, 1906 in Milam, Sabine County. Io graduated from Milam High School in 1924 and received an Elementary Teaching Certificate from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1926. She taught school in the Houston area for several years and held a Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the State of Texas. She met Joe S. McIlhaney, owner of McIhaney Creamery in Lubbock, during one of his frequent business trips to Southeast Texas. They married in September of 1934. He preceded her in death in 1999. A daughter, JoAnne Conely, also preceded her in death. Io was a woman of extraordinary abilities and energy. Her many activities and interests included membership in the Lubbock Women's Club, the Lubbock Women's Forum, and the Allegro Music Club. She was continually involved in the PTA while her children were in school. She served as president of Carroll Thompson PTA, president of the Lubbock City Council PTA, and received life membership in the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers. Community activities gave her great pleasure, particularly her dedicated service to the Lubbock Well Baby Clinic and her longtime volunteer work as a docent at the Western Heritage Center. She later received a lifetime membership in the West Texas Museum Association. Io was a faithful and involved member of the Lubbock First Baptist Church from the very beginning of her life in Lubbock. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union and taught a women's Sunday school class for many years. She was a longtime member of the church choir and in her latter years loved being a member of the church's Prime Time Singers. Above all, Io was sustained by her joyous love of the Lord and devotion to her family. It has been said that an important part of life is just "being there," and Io was always there - for her family, for her friends, for her church, for people who needed her, and for the entire Lubbock community. In recognition of her years of interests and service she was nominated for, and given, the "Outstanding Older Texas Award" by the Governor of Texas. Io is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. Rainwater and her husband, Clois, of Honey Grove; three sons, Joe S. McIlhaney, Jr., M.D. and his wife, Marion, of Austin, Richard G. McIlhaney and his wife, Martha, of Copper Canyon, and David L. McIlhaney and his wife, Jane, of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Lollie Lee of Waco; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church with the Rev. John H. Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral hom e. Pallbearers will be Jason McIlhaney, Scott McIlhany, Kevin McIlhany, Mark Connell, and David Lutz. The family would like to thank the staff of Carillon Village for the love and excellent care provided to their mother during the last seventeen years, and particularly the staff of Carillon House, who cared for her during her final days. He was a farmer, employed by W. W. Halbert, presumably in father, of Milam. He had a wife and one child listed as dependants. He was of Medium heighth and build, with gray eyes and brown hair. His application was completed on June 5, 1917. Bernie Thacker thinks that his grandfather, James Ferman Halbert, "just might be the same. In the listing that you send there was a Willie C. Halbert and I have since found out that my grandfather (James F or T) did have a brother named Willie." She graduated from Chireno High School two years early and graduated summa cum laude at Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Education and two masters degrees in Education. She married Kenneth Haze Garrett on September 2, 1958, and they had three children, Kim, Kara, and Tracy. La Juan taught school in Houston, Orange, Broaddus, and Chireno. She was very active in her community serving at Chireno Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano for services, The Historical Society, and as a former president and member of the Nacogdoches County Retired Teachers Association. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in San Augustine, Texas, with Bro. Mike Belgard officiating. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22 in Joel Halbert Cemetery in Milam with Rev. Michael Lee Tieman. Services were under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, Inc. in Hemphill. A 4 p.m. service was held in Jacksonville prior to interment at Rest Haven Cemetery. Mrs. Baron died Monday, June 11. She was born Jan. 13, 1935 in Frankston, daughter of H.B. and Mattie Petri Halbert. After graduating from Frankston High School, Mrs. Baron earned a bachelor of music degree from Baylor University in 1955, and a master of education degree in counseling from Georgia State University in 1974. She performed 22 years of dedicated service at Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, located in the northwest Houston area. She retired in 1997. Mrs. Baron served in the U.S. Army for five and a half years. At the time of her resignation from the Women's Army Corps in 1962, she had achieved the rank of captain. One assignment during her military service included duties as a commanding officer at Letterman Army General Hospital in San Francisco, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Eddie Halbert of Houston and Gaylon Halbert of Jacksonville. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Donald H. Baron; sons, Richard Baron of Houston, and Robert Baron of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Wendy Baron of Houston; sisters, Irene Tatum of Mansfield, LA, Virginia Saunders and Lynne Orr of Jacksonville; and a brother, H.B. Halbert Jr. of Sealy; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors. Pallbearers were Brian Bounds, Jack Lamkin II, Ronnie Munos, Beall Orr, Joel Scott, W.E.
