In a biography he prepared for his family he writes he "left Flint on a car-haul away loaded with Buicks for Kansas City. Hitching my way west, I came to Lawton, Oklahoma which at that time was about 9000 people." His wife MayBelle wrote that he lived with an Aunt and Uncle and worked at Montgomery Wards. The position he was given was reserved for students, so he enrolled in Cameron State Agricultural College the next day. He received an Associate in Science degree from Cameron in May, 1932.

He was a longtime employee of Dupont, working on and off depending on the economy, from 1927 through 1949. He later worked for Acme Paint, Williams Gun Shop, Knoblock's Hardware, and as a custodian at Mott Community College. After he retired in 1976, Al and MayBelle travelled, and spent each winter at The Tip O' Texas RV Resort in Pharr, Texas, returning home to Michigan each summer.

Mrs. Otto Klinkman Called by Death
Had Been Ill for Six Months, Funeral Was Held Thursday Afternoon

Mrs. Otto Klinkman passed away Saturday at her home in Elkland Township after an illness of six months' duration. Ascending myelitis is given as the cause of death.

Maggie May Hutchinson was born in Lancaster, NY on May 12, 1863. At the age of 22 she was united in marriage with Otto Klinkman in Lancaster and about 14 years ago she with the other members of the family moved to Elkland township settling on the farm on the county line three miles east of Cass City which has since been their home.

The funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon. Rev. W. B. Weaver, pastor of the M. E. Church officiated and preached from the text "Do not be afraid, only believe." The interment was in Elkland cemetery and the following gentelman acted as pallbearsrs: J. A. Benkelman, S. G. Benkelman, J. A. Caldwell, W. R. Kaiser, A. H. Muck, and P.; S. Rice.

Both sisters and the brother mentioned were present at the funeral and other out of town friends who attended wereh Henry Schultz and son of Caro.

10954 I41649  Hutchinson  Martha "Mattie"  16 May 1848  25 Jan 1925  Could not locate a Texas Death Certificate on the Texas, Deaths, 1890-1976 database at Familysearch.org.

FindAGrave shows her as Martha "Mattie" Hutchinson Smith, and lists her location of birth as Autauga County, Alabama. It further shows that she and William Washington Bickley were married 4 Jan 1870 in Talbot County, Georgia, and had seven children. (Memorial # 39404881, showing Burial at the Hemphill City Cemetery). A second FindAGrave Memorial exists (# 64919395) which instead shows her burial at Bickley Cemetery. A photo of this double tombstone with her husband, William W. Bickley is shown. Her date of birth is engraved, apparently in error, as May 18, 1884.

On the death certificates of sons Robert and Willie Simon, she is shown as Mattie Hutchinson (Hutcherson). On the death certificate of daughter, Tinie May, and the one for her son, Horace Bickley, she is instead listed as Mattie Smith. Could she have remarried after her husband William Bickley died in 1907, perhaps accounting for the inconsistent names, and for the two headstones in differing cemeteries?
