Hawthorn Joshua 1 M GA

How, if at all, is he related to the family of W. B. and Elizabeth Hawthorn (1850 Decatur census, #837) and Mrs. N. Hawthorn (1850 Decatur census, #838)?

Joshua Timothy was the son of William Hawthorn and Meleachy Cliburn. William did serve in the Rev. War and I have proved his service. This is the same Hawthorn that the "Hawthorne Trail" in Florida and GA is named for as he moved there and settled that area.

According to newspaper accounts of the Hawthorne family, after Joshua Timothy died, Martha took all of her children and came to Texas with her two brothers, Joe and Lump, but no other information was given. This may not be true as I see you show that they died in GA or perhaps they did not stay in Texas but went back. I can send you more info on who they married if you are interested but I thought this since this is just a branch off your tree, you might not need that much information. If you do, will send it along.

Lizzie Hawthorne married my gr. grandfather, Thomas Harrison Holmes. We live today where they lived and raised their children. As you can see, the Hawthornes were rather prolific. They all married here and in this are of Texas (Newton-Jasper Counties), the world is full of Hawthornes.

Jasper, Texas (November 3, 1934) Joshua Timothy Hawthorne, 85, one of east Texas' most prominent pioneers, died at his home at Roganville, following a month's illness.

"Uncle Tim" as he was known to his friends, was born in Decatur, Georgia, February 2, 1849, but moved to Texas at the age of 8 years and has been a Jasper county resident ever since. This is the first death to occur in his immediate family despite the fact that he was the father of 14 children and now has approximately 350 descendants. (NOTE: this seems high, compared to the count of 96 grandchildren and 35 great-granchildren mentioned in his wife's obituary two years later. Perhaps they are including nieces in nephews in the count of 350?) He has been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church for the last 45 years.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday at Friendship near Roganville. Elder S.D. Newton of the Primitive Baptist Church at Orange will officiate. Burial will follow there under the direction of the Stringer Undertaking company of Jasper. He is survived by his wife, Mary, eight sons, F.P, J.C., J.T., Sion and Walter of Kirbyville, Polk, Tommie, and Zora of Roganville, six daughters Mrs. H.C. West of Kirbyville, Mrs. D.A. Jones and Mrs. J.N. Martin of Roganville, Mrs. U.M. Hooks of Bleakwood, Mrs. C.S.Day of Newton and Mrs. Earl Norberg of Ashland, Oregon; 184 grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren.

Zora Hawthorne will be honored for his 100th birthday at a reunion Saturday, July 31, at the Hen House Ridge Pavillion at Martin Dies Jr State Park near Dam B.

Hawthorne was born July 30, 1899, to Tim and Mary Hawthorne of Roganville, a small sawmill town 11 miles south of Jasper. Hawthorne was the youngest of 14 children.

Until grown, Hawthorne worked on the family farm which was by the Santa Fe railroad tracks and could tell which train was coming through just by the whistle.

Growing up listening to those whistles gave him the desire to work on the railroad. At age 21, he went to work on a switch engine in Roganville during the winter and continued to work on the farm during the summer months.

In 1928, Hawthrone went to work for Kirby Lumber Company at Camp 11 near Silsbee.

During the Depression, he farmed until 1937 when he went back to work for Kirby until 1941.

World War II began while he worked for Livingston shipyard in Orange where he was employed until 1942 when his dream of riding the rails was realized as he went to work for Kansas City Southern (K.C.S.) where he remained employed for 30 years until retirement at age 70.

In 1996, Hawthorne lost his wife of 73 years, Mae Fairchild Hawthorne.

He now shares his life with the remainder of his family which includes daughter Mary Lou King and husband Larry of Broaddus and daughter Doris Jean Ostraner of The Woodlands.

Hawthorne is grandfather to six, great grandfather to 17 and great-great grandfather to three.

10171 I29560  Hayes  Ervin  1842  21 May 1871  It appears that due he died without a Will, and while his children were still very young. The 1870 census, one year prior to his death, showed he had but one young child at home, "Clara" (Cora). However, it is known that Cora had at at least two siblings, a brother Allan C. Hayes, as well as being survived in 1949 by a sister, "Mrs. C.P. Miller." It is possible that her mother remarried and her sister, and possibly others, were born to this second marriage.

It appears that the Ervin Hayes estate was not settled until 1925, more than fifty years after his death, based on the following notice found in the May 8, 1925 Cass City Chronicle, in the Notice and Publication section on page 7.

Determination of Heirs
Estate of Ervin Hayes, Dec'd

Guy G. Hill, Judge of Probate
In the matter of the Estate of Ervin Hayes, Deceased, Allan C. Hayes filed petition praying for the court to adjudicated legal heirs of said deceased at the time of death, and therefore entitled to inherit real estate. Date set for 18 May 1925.

It is known that Cora and Allan are siblings, based on the following brief item, also in the Cass City Chronicle, on May 27, 1933, "Local Happenings," page four:

Mrs. C.D. Striffler and son, Stanley Striffler, were entertained at the home of the former's brother, Allan Hayes, in Port Huron Sunday.

Verda was born to William Edward & Lula Belle Haynes.

She married Roy Oscar Bennett in 1936.

She was a loving mother to her 4 boys and a doting grandmother to 8 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. She loved the Lord and was faithful to meet with God's people every Sunday & Wednesday night. She read her Bible daily and prayed for her family and friends by name. She wrote poetry and kept journals of how God worked in her life. Sometimes the poems would be about the Pastors sermon, she'd just heard. She loved her husband, Roy and treated him like a king. Up until her dying days she still wanted to do things for herself, even in pain.

She was a godly woman and is missed daily by this grandaughter.

10192 I43126  Hebuck  Uno Jacob  25 Sep 1897  25 Jan 1980  The Online Archive of California has stored 1 linera ft. of his papers, in a collection titled "Inventory of Uno J. Hebuck Collection."

As a lifelong resident of the Roseville and Rocklin area, Uno Jacob Hebuck was especially suited to document the history of pioneer families of Placer County. Hebuck was born on September 27, 1897 in Roseville, California. The Uno J. Hebuck Collection is arranged in one series: 1. Manuscripts. Items span the years 1971 to 1977. Several items are undated.

As a lifelong resident of the Roseville and Rocklin area, Uno Jacob Hebuck was especially suited to document the history of pioneer families of Placer County. Hebuck was born on September 27, 1897 in Roseville, California. His parents were born in Finland, father Henry A. in 1869 and mother Sofia Haaga in 1871. The couple moved to 501 Tahoe Avenue, Roseville in 1889 and Henry worked in Rocklin as a blacksmith for a granite quarry. The family soon grew with the addition of eleven children, three of whom died. By 1907 the Hebuck children included Lewis, Sulo, Henry R., Lempi, Uno, Marie, Harvey, and Elvira. Henry then moved his family to Cemetery Road in Rocklin.

They later moved to Kansas City, where Charlie worked for the Santa Fe railroad. He was severly injured at work, and had to use crutches for many years. They eventually purchased some additional farmland near the Arkansas-Missouri state line, in Arybird, Missouri.  STR06

10197 I25390  Hedrick  Jewel Thomas  Between 1898 and 1908  22 Nov 1970  This is appears to be his record on the Texas Death Index, incorrectly showing him as a Female. This is understandable based on his unusual first name.

Hedrick Jewel 11-22-1970 NUECES F WIDOWED

And here is the record on the SSDI:

JEWEL HEDRICK 13 Feb 1898 Nov 1970 78408 (Corpus Christi, Nueces, TX ) (none specified) 464-38-9111 Texas

It has not been confirmed that the records above are for the same Jewel Thomas Hedrick that married Clara Belle Gaines.

After divorcing Clara Gaines, it is possible that Jewel Hedrick remarried, and was living in Kiowa, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, listed as being age 22. His wife, also age 22, was named Effie, and they had a 2 month old son, Junior. Also living with Jewel and his second wife were his parents, Frank and Mary Hedrick of Tennessee. At the time of the 1920 census, Frank and Mollie Hedrick can be found in Damon Twp, Latimer County, Oklahoma, along with three children, Larante, Olie and Jewel. That census listing, however, shows Jewel as born ca 1908 instead of 1898. This may have been simply an error in the transcription, but should be resolved. It is also possible there were two Jewel Hedrick's.

10198 I28660  Heflin  Edward Milton  Abt 1824  Abt 1876  Melba Gene McLemore shows him as a son of James HEFLIN and Nancy THURMOND. She shows him as marrying second Keziah TUCKER.

She references multiple land transactions of Milton's in the 1850's and 1860's with the Little Rock land office, and also indicates that he was on the 1850 Slave Schedule as a slave holder.

At the time of the 1850 and 1860 Census, he was living in Drew County, Arkansas with his first wife, Vernetta Jane McLEMORE.

Not located on the 1870 Census.

In 1880, his second wife, widowed, was living with their son in the Cane Creek Township of Lincoln County, Arkansas.

Melba indicates that he was buried on the old HEFLIN farm in Star City, Arkansas.
