Arthur, Lloyd "Shorty"

A long period of sorrowing suspense culminated in deeper grief for Mrs. Millie (Beznoska) Arthur from a telegram from the War Department stating that her son, Staff Sgt. Lloyd Arthur is now listed as killed in action. Lloyd was reported missing since April 29. He was a lower turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Sgt. Arthur was born in North Bend on October 2, 1922. Most of his life was spent in North Bend but the family lived for a short time in Oklahoma. He was graduated from the North Bend High School with the class of 1941. Following his graduation from the North Bend High School he worked in Grand Island and in Omaha. On being inducted into the army he was assigned to the infantry in Camp Robinson, Arkansas. Later he joined the air corps and was sent to San Antonio, Texas where he received his basic training. He was sent overseas from Tampa, Florida. His plane was shot down over Brandenburg, Germany. Xerox of a portrait of Lloyd.
