Clark, William and Mary Jane Clancey Benkelman Headstone, front side

This is the front of their monument. On the backside, four additional names were carved, Leonard Benkelman, Jane Benkelman, John E. Horne and Willie Horne. The Civil War service of Leonard Benkelman and John Horne's civil war was also noted.

Notes: EVERGREEN CEMETERY
City of Manitowoc, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin
Location: The cemetery is bounded by 18th Street on the East, Revere Drive on the Southeast, Prospect Ave. and Michigan Ave. on the North, and by the Chicago & Northwestern R.R. on the West and Southwest. Burials go back to about 1847, and the cemetery is maintained in excellent condition. It contains over 20,000 burials, and because of the size, the transcription was being done one section at a time, with the oldest section being done first. This section was transcribed on five different days in June and July 1976 by Dick and Carol Cote of the Wisconsin State Old Cemetery Society. The balance of the cemetery was copied in the summers of 1980 through 1983 by members of the Manitowoc Old Cemetery Society.
