    Mrs. Frances Kathleen (Sparks) Maxwell, age 94, longtime resident of San Augustine, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in San Augustine.
    Frances was born to Audra (Ford) Sparks and Ernest Sparks on March 5, 1919, in San Augustine, Texas. She graduated from San Augustine High School in 1937. Thereafter attending Business School. She served as President of the Home Life Insurance Company in San Augustine for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, past member of the Eastern Star Chapter, Past City Council Person, was Mayor Pro tem for the City of San Augustine, Past member of the Chamber of Commerce, and Past Member of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments, and Past Board Member of Directors for First National Bank in Center. She was a member of the Christian Science.

    Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, with interment following in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine. Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 2013 from the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wyman Roberts.

    Those left to cherish her memory include, Grandson: Jason Wells and his wife Shelly of San Augustine; Granddaughters: Jeanna Wells Penick and her husband, Martin of Nacogdoches and Paula Wells of Nacogdoches; Great-grandchildren: Brady Wells, Casey Wells, Brandt Wells, Laura Penick, and Leslie Penick; Sisters: Betty Jean Cartwright of San Augustine and Claudine Selden of San Augustine; Sister-in-law: Agnes Sparks of San Augustine; along with numerous nieces and nephews, along with a special care-taker and friend; Rachel Renfroe of San Augustine.

    She is preceded in death by her husband, David Maxwell; daughter, Ernestine Weaver Wells; her parents; Audra (Ford) Sparks and Ernest Sparks; Sister, Marie Roberts Lawrence; brothers, Beeman Sparks; Hugh Sparks, and LeRoy Sparks.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Daughters of the Republic of Texas or to the Christian Science Church.

    Bro. Hugh Sparks

    Funeral Services for Bro. Hugh Sparks, 73, of San Augustine were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 1994, at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Chapel in San Augustine. Interment followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery.

    He died Sunday, July 31, at Woodland Heights Medical Center hospital in Lufkin.

    Bro. Sparks had served 28 years a pastor of the Liberty Springs United Methodist Church in Sabine County near Milam. He was a lifelong resident of the San Augustine County area.

    Survivors: wife, Inez Sparks of San Augustine, a daughter, Debbie Adkins of Athens; a son H.B. Sparks of Center; three sisters, Frances Maxwell and Betty Jean Cartwright, both of San Augustine, and Claudine Selden of Longview; a brother, Beeman Sparks of San Augustine; and six grandchildren.

    Claudine was born to Audra Eva (Ford) Sparks and Ernest Richard Sparks on July 10, 1931, in San Augustine. After graduating from San Augustine High School, she briefly studied to be a concert pianist at Stephen F. Austin State University before marrying Bobby Selden. Her career was spent working alongside her family at the company founded by her father, Ernest R. Sparks, in the early 1930's, Home Life Insurance Company of Texas.

    Claudine's heart to serve led her to take on many leadership positions in her community. She was active in the San Augustine Chamber of Commerce, serving as President in 1984. She also served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, board member of the Deep East Texas Council of Government, and an active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas along with several additional civic organizations.

    She is survived by, daughters, Synthia Marie Richey and husband, Patrick of Jacksonville; Toni Rene' Brothers and husband, Scott of San Antonio; son, Robert Zackery Selden and wife, Cara of Marble Falls; her beloved grandchildren, Jonathan; Christopher; Nicholas; and Meagan Richey; Brittany and Jacob Brothers, Zachary and Jarrett Selden; her beloved great grandchildren, Beaux and Garrison Richey and Elizabeth Selden; her beloved sister, Betty Jean (Sparks) Cartwright of San Augustine; Sister-in-law, Agnes W. Sparks of San Augustine, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Richard and Audra Eva (Ford) Sparks; Siblings, Beeman Sparks; Marie Sparks Lawrence; Hugh Sparks; Frances Sparks Maxwell, and Leroy Sparks.
