    Novie Mae Smith

    Novie Mae McNaughten Smith, 89, of Hemphill died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill.

    Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 25, 1909, in the Fairdale community as a daughter of the late Elisah and Alma (Dainwood) McNaughten and was a lifelong resident of Sabine County. She was a retired grocery store owner ande a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church.

    Survivors: daughters, Bobbie Martine and Patsie Pearson, both of Houston; three grandchildren, Taska Fields, Sally Hill, and Chuck McCary; and two great grandchildren, Jason Fields and Lindsey Fields.

    Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Charles Spears officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Sabine County.

    Patsie Jane Smith Pearson

    Patsie Jane Smith Pearson, 75, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in Houston.

    Mrs. Pearson was born in San Augustine to parents Roscoe and Novie Smith.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Pearson.

    She is survived by children, Taska Fields and husband Bill, Sally Hill and Tony Hernandez, and Charles McCary and wife Bonnie. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason Fields, and Lindsey Golemon and husband Brandon.

    Mrs. Pearson lover her children, grandchildren, and her dog, Patches. She was a very thoughtful and giving person. She made every holiday special for her family. She will be missed.

    Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

    Charles Buron McCary, Jr., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at his home in Hemphill, Texas after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Beaumont July 10, 1960 to Charles Buron McCary and Patsie Smith McCary Pearson.

    Chuck was a Sergeant at the Port of Houston Police Department. He retired in January 2022, after 28 years of service.

    Chuck is survived by his wife, Bonnie; step-children, Shannon and husband, Ray, Chad and wife, Jessica, and Megan and husband, Manny; seven grandchildren, Korbyn, Zoey, Kane, Izabella, Rhett, Charlee and Reeve; sisters, Taska and husband, Bill, and Sally Hill; one nephew, Jason and wife, Leigha and children, Jack and Elizabeth; and niece, Lindsey and husband, Brandon and daughter, Maddie.

    Chuck was preceded in death by his father and mother; and grandparents, Maxie and Velva McCary and Roscoe and Novie Smith.

    Growing up, Chuck loved spending summer vacations with his grandparents at Toledo Bend fishing and hunting. He loved taking vacations to beautiful beaches and scuba diving.

    The legacy of Chuck's kind spirit, the support and friendship that he provided to his family and friends, passion for the outdoors, love of lake Toledo Bend and zest for life will always be in the hearts of those who loved him.

    A Celebration of Life will be held at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas October 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor John Walker from Sabine County Cowboy Church will be officiating.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to honor Chuck may be made to the Oakhill Cemetery in care of Weldon McDaniel, P. O. Box 174, Hemphill, Texas 75948.
