Rueben Morgan

Notes:

Rueben Morgan may have moved back to Florida after his 1857 marriage in Jasper, Texas. In an email dated April 2, 2006, Floyd Boyett passed along the following information:

"I did find a Reuben Morgan, Co. G, 3rd. Florida Infantry (Pensacola area) as a Private on the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System site. This should be Daniel's Reuben and the man we were looking for."

Based on the census listing below, it appears that Rueben Morgan died sometime between 1865 and 1870, perhaps as a result of the Civil War? It further appears that Susan remarried. Her second spouse appears to have died as well:

At the time of the 1880 census, 14 year old Josephine is living in the home of John McLemore, her uncle by marriage, and listed as Josephine Wilson.

Only Jesse and Allie are listed in the Estate settlement of Daniel Morgan as "surviving grandchildren." It therefore appears that Eliza and Josephine may have died prior to the settlement of Daniel's estate in 1886.

Rueben married Susan Neal on 25 Feb 1857 in Jasper County, Texas. Susan was born before 1837 in Louisiana; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

As of the 1880 census, it appears that Jesse was living as a boarder in Jasper, and working for the Railroad. It appears his future wife, Mary Walters, was living in the same home.

Jesse married Julia Ann McLemore after 1893. Julia (daughter of John M. McLemore and Sarah Ann E. Boyett) was born on 20 Apr 1869 in Jasper County, Texas; died on 19 Sep 1936; was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

An "Allie" Morgan was an heir Daniel Morgan in 1886. Additionally, an Alice A MORGAN married J.W. Foster on 8 Dec 1886 in Newton county, Texas (Ancestry.com-Texas Marriages, 1851-1900). It is not known if this is the same person.

At the time of the 1880 census, Josephine was living with John McLemore, the husband of her deceased Aunt, Sarah Morgan. She was listed as 14 year old Josephine Wilson, presumably having been adopted by her mother's second husband.

In 1910, he was living in Sabine County in the home of the Sarah C BOYETT, age 59, the widow of Philip BOYETT. He was not located on either the 1920 or 1930 census.

At the time of the 1920 Sabine County census, his occupation was listed as Driver, Garbage Wagon. He was listed as a son of Jesse Morgan. He was not located, however, on either the 1900 or 1910 census, or in 1930. Might this actually be George Morgan, who is listed as a son of Jesse's in 1900 or 1910, but can not be found in 1920?

At the time of the 1930 census, he was married to a Martha A and living next to his step brother John T. Carruth and near his parents, Jesse and Julia Morgan. Everett and Martha had two daughters, Wyveta and Claudia (ages 12 and 7).

Sarah married William Thomas Wood, Sr. about 1922. W. T. "Dub" Wood Jr

Wiliam Thomas "Dub" Wood Jr., 70, of Waco died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995.

Wood was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Pineland as a son of the late William Thomas Wood and Sarah Ann (Morgan) Wood and had lived in Beaumont several years before moving to Waco a year ago. He was a retired attorney, serving as Assistant District Attorney for Jefferson County in addition to several years in private practive before retiring in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a former Post Commander of American Legion Post #33, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the the Scottish Rite, and the Methodist church. Wood formerly served as president of the Beaumont Optimist Club.

Survivors: son, Brett Wood of Waco; a brother, Billy Wood of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sisters, Arnell Seymour of Leakey, Wilna Broussard of Grapevine, and Helen Towns of Cloudcraft, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Brandi Wood, Will Wood, and Michael Wood, all of Waco.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kelley & Watkins Funeral Home chapel in Beaumont. Interment followed with 3 p.m. graveside rites at the Wood Cemetery near Pineland.

Notes:

Wilna Wood Broussard came from a long line of Texas families. Her ancestors were some of the first settlers in Texas/Mexico before it became a Republic.

Wilna was born to William T. Wood and Sarah Ann McLemore Morgan in East Texas's Pineland. She had two sisters and three brothers.

Wilna was a painter. She belonged to the China Painters Guild and numerous other art societies. She used oils, pastels and watercolors on canvas. She sold some of her paintings to local art galleries in Oklahoma City and she sold her china painting pieces to boutique shops in the Midwest and Florida.

Wilna attended Beaumont High and then her family moved to Panama City, Florida and Georgia during WWII. Her father was a shipbuilder. Wilna worked for the USO during the war and was a secretary at a military HDQ in Cape Cod, MA for a few years.

After the war she returned to Beaumont where she met and married Weston J. Broussard. They had three daughters. The family lived in Beaumont where Weston was manager of International Cresote and Construction Company until 1968 when he took a job with Kerr McGee Oil Company and became Vice President of Kerr McGee Chemical. The family then moved to St. Louis, Missouri and then to the company's HDQ in Oklahoma City, OK. They lived there until retirement in 1987.

Wilna enjoyed being a homemaker and her china and canvas painting activities. She sold some of her painting to art galleries in OKC. She also enjoyed her activities at the Petroleum Club in OKD, of which she and Weston were members.

In 1987 upon retirement, Wilna and Weston moved to Grapevine, Texas to be near one of their daughters. The whole family enjoyed coming to visit "Meme and Papa" and barbequing and swimming in their backyard pool.

Wilna is preceded in death by her husband Weston, two sisters and two brothers. She has one surviving brother in North Carolina.

Wilna is survived by her daughters Anne (McFadden-Dan) of Iowa; Mary (Decato-Al) of Grapevine; and Jerri (Forrest-John) of Iowa. She has four grandchildren ? Robert, Erin, Brigitte, Cristie and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm.

Helen Ruth Morgan

Helen Ruth Morgan was born to Winnie Ora Davidson Morgan (USPS Post Master in Bronson, TX) and Jesse Monroe Morgan (owner of the only Texaco gas station in Bronson) on August 6 1926 in Bronson, Texas and passed away in West Point, Texas on August 19. 2015. She was their only child.

Ms. Morgan attended Bronson High School, there, she met Milton Carroll Johnson and in 1946 they married. Helen was married two other times but passed away a happy single woman. She spent her last 16 years in companionship with her dearest friend and roommate, Mary Jo Brown. They had become known around West Point as "Thelma and Louise." They were always ready to go dancing or to watch their favorite football teams (Cowboys and Longhorns). Laughter was their trademark.

Ms. Morgan received her Registered Nurse (RN) degree in the Army Corp during the final days of World War II. She was on the front lines during the tragic 1947 Texas City explosions and fires that devasted their community.

Her children are Carroll Monroe Johnson (deceased), with the surviving children being Dwayne (Butch) Edward Johnson of San Antonio, Tx, Ronald (Pete) Anthony Johnson of West Point, TX, and her only daughter Sydna Johnson of West Point, TX, along with 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

May she rest in peace with a smile on her lips, laughter in her heart, and dances in her step.
