    Ethel Greer

    Funeral services for Ethel Greer, 99 of San Augustine were held at 2:00 p.m. August 19, 2006 at New Hope Baptist Church in Milam. Burial followed at New Hope Cemetery in Milam. Bro. Rick Martinez officiated. She died August 16 in San Augustine. Ethel Greer was born in Sabine County on May 30, 1907 to William Aiken Morris and Della Neal Morris. She was a homemaker, a master quilter and seamstress. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Milam, was the oldest living member of New Hope Baptist Church and her family were charter members. She is survived by four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great granchildren and a nost of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the New Hope Baptist Church. Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine was in charge of arrangements.

She became a teacher and taught for many schools, including Jasper, Pineland, and Hemphill before retiring from West Sabine ISD.

    Ella was a lifetime resident of Sabine County and a member of Rosevine Baptist Church. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In her spare time, she loved to read, particularly Zane Grey and Louis L'amour westerns.

    Ella was preceded in death by her husband, W. N. "Dick" Horn; daughter, Dixie Brown; and her son-in-law, Johnnie Brown.

    She is survived by her nephews, Randy Rogers and wife, Gina, of Kirbyville, Texas and Justin Parker and wife, Jennifer, of Bronson, Texas; and grandson, Johnnie Brown, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of LaPorte, Texas.

    Burial was held in Rosevine Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill, Texas.

    Edith Horn

    Edith Horn, 80, of Silsbee died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

    Mrs. Horn was a native of Bronson and a longtime resident of Hardin County. She retired from Beaumont ISD where she taught for many years and was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

    Survivors: her sons, Gary Horn and Dean Horn and his wife Susan, all of Sour Lake; grandsons, Andy Horn and wife Trisha of New Braunfels and Patrick Horn of Sour Lake; brother, Jim Dickerson of Bronson, sister, Ella Mae Horn of Rosevine and Sybil Slaydon of Kirbyville; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Glen Horn.

    Graveside rites were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rovesvine Cemetery in Rosevine.

    Services were under the direction of R. S. Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.

    Jim Ray Dickerson, 82, died suddenly Saturday, May 14, 2011, near his home near Hemphill. He was born in Bronson to Minton and Fay Stephens Dickerson and has lived here all his life. Jim was a retired clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad and a member of the Centerview Methodist Church.

    He is survived by his wife Faye Dickerson of Hemphill, his son Larry Wayne Dickerson and his wife Sharron of Woodville, three stepsons; Randy Lee Cassidy and his wife Leah of Kileen, Dennis Ray Cassidy of Bronson, and Ali Shawakfeh and his wife Mary of Bronson. He is also survived by his step-daughter Terry Cassidy of Cheyenne, WY, two sisters Sybil Slaydon of Kirbyville and Ella Mae Horn of Rosevine, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

    Foie Paul Armstrong

    Foie Paul Armstrong, Sr. died Sunday, June (sic) 12, 2009 after a long battle with small cell lung cancer.

    He was born Nov. 3, 1924 and passed away surrounded by his son, daugher-in-law and a daughter as his son's home.

    He leaves behind a son, Foie Paul Armstrong II and wife, Christy from Katy; a daughter, Stephanie Wisenbaler and her husband Edward Wisenbaler III of Alvin; four grandchildren,
    Chastity Armstrong, Haleigh Armstrong, Foie Paul Armstrong III, and Edward Wisenbaler IV. He is also survived by three sisters, Edna Coyle and Eloise McLemore of Hemphill, and Shirley Decoux and her husband Joe of Canyon Lake.

    Armstrong was a proud veteran of World War II and enjoyed serving our country. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

    Visitation will be held Friday, July 17 at Starr Funeral Home between 5 and 9 p.m.. Funeral services are set for Saturday, July 18 at 11 a.m. at the Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill. Interment will follow at Centerview Cemetery.

    Edna Lee "Tootsie" Armstrong Robinson Coyle passed away on August 29, 2023 at the age of 96 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on December 4, 1926 in Milam, Texas to Lottie and Blue Armstrong. She graduated from Hemphill High School. She married Howard G. Robinson in 1948. They had two sons, Dennis and Terry. Howard passed away in 1982. She later married Jim Coyle. He passed away in 2009. Tootsie lived in many places during her early married years, including Ingleside, Texas, Port Lavaca, Texas, Seville, Spain, Sweeny, Texas, and Fredricksburg, Virginia. She and Howard returned to Hemphill in the 1970's.

    She is preceded in death by her son, Terry Robinson, her first husband Howard Robinson, and her second husband, Jim Coyle. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Elouise McLemore and her brothers Dick Armstrong and Foie Armstrong.

    She is survived by her son, Dennis Robinson, daughter-in-law Sally Robinson, grandsons Jason Robinson and Jesse Robinson, and great grandson Braden Robinson, all of Lubbock. Survivors also include her sister Shirley DeCoux of Canyon Lake, nieces Danette Howell of Canyon Lake and Stephanie Wiesen Baler of Houston, nephews Keith Hallonquist of Canyon Lake, Randy McLemore of Nacogdoches and Paul Armstrong of Houston.

    Tootsie loved to sew and crochet, and was an outstanding cook. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the First Baptist Church in Hemphill and enjoyed all her friends and activities there. She will be deeply missed by all her family and loved ones.

    Visitation is set for 5 ? 7 pm Friday September 8 at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill. Graveside service will be on Saturday September 9 at Centerview Cemetery at 2 pm.

    Elouise Elizabeth McLemore, 82, died Wednesday afternoon in the Sabine County Hospital after an illness. She was born in Sabine County to William Rudolph and Lottie Lee Dickerson Armstrong. Elouise was married to the late Deford McLemore and has lived most of her life in Hemphill. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

    She is survived by her son Randy McLemore and his wife Terre of Nacogdoches, two grandchildren; Hillary and Sara McLemore, and two sisters; Edna Coyle of Hemphill and Shirley DeCoux of New Braunfels, TX.

    Doc was born January 6, 1934 in Bronson to James Lonnie Ellison and Martha Jane Dickerson Ellison. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War Era. He earned his Masters Degree in 1974 from Stephen F. Austin State University and was an educator with Hemphill ISD and West Sabine ISD.

    Doc was a lifetime resident of Bronson and was a member of First Baptist Church of Bronson, Rosevine Church of God, and Bronson Masonic Lodge #893.

    Doc was a PEOPLE person. He loved being the center of attention, a story teller and jokester! He had a love for a good hand of dominoes or 42 and spent lots of time under the Cedar Tree on Hemphill's Courthouse Square. He was always a Teacher, loved organization and everything fine tuned. Doc had a love for music and reading and enjoyed politics. His passion was traveling. He and Wilma spent many years of camping and RVing with their family! Many summers were spent on the Frio River in Leakey,TX and Garner State Park and after retirement, motor homing across the USA. Doc wore many hats, figuratively speaking. Hats were his signature.

    Doc is survived by his son, Randy Ellison and wife, Amber, of Rosevine; daughter, Reba Squyres and husband, Rodney, of Lufkin; sister, Verl McGough of Hemphill; beloved sister-in-law, Minnie Slaughter; grandchildren, Will, Nick, Reed, and Kari; grandson by proxy, Chad Seago; great grandchildren, Trey, Grace, Presley, Lilly, Noah Doc, Ronin, Ruby, Abram, and Nora; seven nieces, one nephew and many cherished cousins and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Wilma Dean Palmer Ellison; and brothers, Eldridge "Snake" Ellison, Elray "Rags" Ellison, James "June" Ellison, Jr., and Bobby Gene "Bugs" Ellison.

    Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

    Gene Philip Russell, 84, passed away on September 4, 2012 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was born January 30, 1928 in Milam, Texas to Viola and Rand Russell. He was a long-time resident of Hemphill until his retirement.

    Gene could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. When he was young, he served in the Merchant Marines. While raising his daughter Phyllis and son Randy, he worked as a welder in the oil industry. Learning from his experience there, he formed Metals Lab Welding School in New Orleans which he owned and operated for many years. From there he formed Toledo Inspection Company, a very successful and respected company in the oil industry. Upon his retirement, he moved to Pass Christian, Mississippi and then relocated to Broussard, Louisiana.

    He is survived by his daughter Phyllis Dreis and her husband William, his son Randell "Randy" Russell and his wife Tina, his three granddaughters, Cherie Burlet and husband Robert, Melissa Bellaci and her husband Ryan, and Jennifer Russell, one grandson Edward Lestrade III and his wife Sheila, and ten great grandchildren, Robert, Emma, Abigail, William, Timmy, Megan, Taylor, Anna, Alaina, and Maya.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Russell, his parents Viola Jane White and Randell Russell, and his two sisters, Anna Dixie Russell and Nona Faye McGown.
    Visitation will begin at 9:00 on September 11, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas, followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Joel Halbert Cemetery, Milam, Texas.
