Obituary

Mary Evelyn McNaughten, 87, of Yellowpine, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. She was born on November 1, 1936, in Yellowpine, to the late Hollis E. Stewart and Lillie Mae McDonald Stewart.

Evelyn, a lifetime resident of Sabine County, was a graduate of Hemphill High School Class of 1955. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker, and when her husband was alive, she enjoyed cooking for him. Evelyn was known for being a very good cook.

She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and had a love for gospel music and puzzle books. Evelyn's loved to go places, as long as she didn't have to leave Sabine County.

Evelyn is survived by her nephews, Jerry Wayne Smith and wife, Theresa of Hemphill, and A. B. Clark, Jr. of Fairmont. She is also survived by several great nephews and nieces, and two great-great-nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Mae Stewart, her husband, Audice McNaughten, and her sister, Dorothy Birdwell.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation, with Bro. Wayne Alford officiating.

Burial will follow the services in Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, with John Smith, Jason Smith, Tra Clark, Billy Stewart, Michael Stewart, and Kirk Butler serving as pallbearers.
