    Blanche Maurie Green Phillips, 97, of Woodville, Texas, passed away, Friday, July 16, 2010 at The Orchard Assisted Living Center in Woodville, Texas.

    Blanche was born in Panola County, Texas on January 12, 1913 to Ralph Eugene and Nettie Ann Green. In 1918, the family built a home near Paxton, Texas where she spent her early years living and working on the family farm.

    After graduating from Tenaha High School, she became a first grade teacher at Paxton School where she taught her brother, Ralph and sister, Nelwyn. She, after three years of teaching and saving, enrolled in CIA, now Texas Women's University.

    After graduation, she became the first Home Economics teacher in Burkeville, Texas and it was there that she met and married fellow teacher and coach, Bob Phillips. Over the next few years they had two sons and built a home in Bob's hometown of Woodville where he supervised the Vocational Education programs for returning WWII veterans.

    Bob's untimely death in 1948 began a new and challenging chapter in the lives of Blanche and her sons. After a year of teaching in Woodville, she returned to TSCW/TWU to finish her master's degree and taught in Nacogdoches and Woodville until 1955 when she became an assistant professor at Sam Houston State College.

    In 1957 she entered Ohio State University, eventually earning a PhD. The now, Dr. Blanche Phillips accepted her longtime position as Dean of the School of Home Economics at Stephen F. Austin College, now SFASU. Her final years before retirement were spent at the University of Houston.

    Over the course of her life and career, Dr. Phillips touched, enriched and inspired the lives of countless people, many of whom are still close friends and adopted extended family to this day.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Eugene and Nettie Ann Green; brothers, Dr. Clarence Green and James Harold (Buck) Green; and sisters, Allene Green and Nelwyn Phillips.

    She is survived by a brother, Dr. Ralph Green and a sister, Esther Adams. Also sons, Ralph Phillips and Bob Phillips, daughter-in-law, Dorothy Phillips; grandchildren, Stacy McCoy & husband, Chris McCoy, Joan Phillips & her fianc?e , Will Patterson; great grandchildren, Brenden Phillips and Bailey McCoy.


    Funeral services will be Monday, July 19th at 10:30 a.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery all in Woodville.

    Dr. Ralph Tillman Green, 88, passed away on July 18th, 2010 in Dallas. Born in Paxton, Texas on April 10, 1922, he graduated from Texas A&M in 1942. After serving in the Navy in WWII, he married Mary Lou Malone on June 20, 1945, and they celebrated 50 years together before her passing in 1996.

    After earning his masters degree at A&M and PhD in Economics from Duke University, he came to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 1949. Following a year as chairman of the economics department at Baylor, he was appointed by Governor Alan Shivers to serve as the first Director of the Texas Commission on Higher Education, now the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He returned to the Federal Reserve in 1962 as Vice President of Research, retiring in 1977 as Vice President and Senior Economic Advisor. From 1983 to 1996, he enjoyed a second career as Assistant Professor of Business at TWU.

    Ralph was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He had a lifelong dedication to learning and enjoyed travel, golf, and computers. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Farris (Jack) Susan Lambert (John) and Nancy Lunceford (Michael), 7 grandchildren, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.

    A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m, Thursday July 22, 2010 at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial service for Dr. Green will be held at Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on July 22, 2010 with a reception following. Memorials may be made to the Shelby County Historical Society.

    Nettie Allene Green, 83, of Woodville Texas, formerly of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Woodville Health & Rehab Center in Woodville, Texas.

    Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Ramah Baptist Church with burial in Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas. Officiating was Brother Jerry Phillips.

    Nettie was born April 13, 1925 to Ralph Eugene & Nettie Ann Cammack Green in Paxton, Texas. After graduation from Tenaha High School, she received her BS degree from Texas State College for Women in 1949 and her MA in 1960. Her long and distinguished career in education took her to Germany, Texas, Nebraska, and finally Ann Arbor, Michigan. While in Germany, she served as the principal of a U.S. Army School in Straubing, a beautiful historic town on the Danube River. She took advantage of the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. One of her favorite memories was being baptized in the Jordan River.

    She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence Green and James H. Green; and sister, Nelwyn Phillips.

    She is survived by two sisters, Blanche Phillips of Woodville, TX and Esther Adams of Houston, TX; one brother, Ralph Green of Dallas, TX and fourteen nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, William Malcolm, Penny Garthwaite and countless students whose lives she inspired over her long career.

    Allene "Gigi" was a lifelong educator who taught elementary, middle and high school in Ann Arbor, Michigan starting in 1962. She was known as a very loving, caring, and giving person who was highly involved with her students. She had a gift of being able to help others work through any difficult decisions. She was always able to focus on the positive in people.

    Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

    Nelwyn Green Phillips, 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 6, 2008, in Baytown, Texas.

    Born on December 26, 1928, in Paxton, Texas, she was the daughter of Ralph Eugene Green and Nettie Ann Cammack Green. A retired teacher, Nelwyn earned both an undergraduate degree in home economics from Texas Woman's University and a master's from Lamar University.

    She was happily married to Bobby Maurice Phillips for 41 years. During their time together, the couple made their home in Baytown, Sherman, Palestine, San Antonio and Silsbee, Texas. Nelwyn moved to Huntsville, Texas, following the death of her husband and later returned to Baytown where the couple had once resided. There she was a resident of St. James House for over five years.

    Nelwyn is survived by daughters, Denise Morgan and husband David, and June Waggener; son, Jerry Phillips and wife Judy; sisters, Blanche Phillips, Esther Adams and Allene Green; and brother, Ralph Green. Her grandchildren include: Noel Waggener and wife Charisse, Sarah Waggener, Leah Morgan, Natalie Morgan, Cara Morgan, Haley Phillips and Rachel Phillips Nalle and husband Jordan. She was preceded in death by both her parents and brothers, Clarence and James (Buck) Green.

    Nelwyn was active in several Baptist churches during her lifetime and was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Huntsville.

    Arrangements have been entrusted to Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. The visitation for Nelwyn Phillips will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, June 9. Services will be Tuesday, June 10 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services to follow in Woodville at 2 p.m. in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

    Active pallbearers will be Noel Waggener, David Morgan, Scott Bennett, Truett Bennett, Dirk Lorimier, and Bob Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Green, Cecil Morgan, Armender Hayes, Jerry Nobles, Ralph Phillips and Frank Green.

    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Box 281, Huntsville, TX 77342.
