    Earnest A. Myers, Sr., of Spring Grove, formerly of Stoverstown, passed away on April 2, 2012, in Hanover. He was the beloved husband of Martha E. (Miller) Myers, who passed away in 1978 and Arlene M. (Bortner) Markel Myers, who passed away in 2001.

    Earnest was born in Spring Grove on March 19, 1922, the son of the late Allen M. and Lora S. (Cramer) Myers.

    He worked at P.H. Glatfelter Co. for over 39 years and retired in 1986.

    Earnest was a longtime member of Zion (Shaffer's) United Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club at P.H. Glatfelter Co, Jefferson Rifle Club, Jefferson Brothers of the Brush, Pvt. Allen J. Beck VFW Post # 5265 in Spring Grove, Western York County Democratic Club, AARP and a charter member of Camp Hiawatha Hunting Camp in Potter County. He was also a life member of Jefferson Fire Co, Friendship Hose Co. in Spring Grove, N. Codorus Twp Fire Co. and Porters Vol. Fire Co.

    He is survived by his loving daughters, Linda S. Hoover and husband, William of Spring Grove, Carolyn E. Krout and husband, Dale of York, Elaine E. Krout and husband, Keith of York; his step-daughters, Shirley A. Wolfgang of York, Lois Kravontka of York; his step-sons, Kenneth E. Markel of Seven Valleys, and Gordon L. Markle of York. He is also survived by three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth G. Myers of York; his sister, Loretta A. Lecrone of York; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by a son, Earnest A. Myers, Jr.; his sisters, Janet L. Miller and Gladys M. Allison; and his brother, Donald L. Myers.

    A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held April 7, 2012, promptly at 2 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home, Spring Grove, with Rev. J. Thomas J. Shelly officiating. He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Cemetery.
