The STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, Volume 18, dated September 5, 1955, reported that he graduated from Marlette, Michigan High School. The 1961 issue of the Broadcast noted both his marriage to Patricia Caswell, and that he had spent two weeks training at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, during the summer.

As of the publication date of Art Peck's book, he and his wife Patricia, along with children Lee Ann and Tim, were living in Marlette, Sanilac County, Michigan.
