Mary married Thomas Jefferson Fussell on 26 Dec 1866. Thomas was born on 22 Mar 1847 in Louisiana; died on 22 Nov 1914; was buried in Aimwell Cemetery, Zwolle, Sabine Parish, Louisiana. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Columbus R. Fussell was born January 14, 1869, at Milam, Sabine Co, TX. He married Maud Maund in 1888 at Milam, and they moved to Shelby Co. in 1903. Mr. Fussell is listed as a life insurance agent in the 1910 census, and was also a barber for about 20 yrs, retiring 2 yrs prior to his death, when ill health forced him to retire. He was an active member of the Christian Church and a member of the city council, where he never missed a meeting.

The Fussells had two children: Leo had died about 10 previously, and their daughter Elma F. Fussell Wyman was living in Fort Worth at the time of C. R. Fussell's death. His wife also survived him. Funeral services were at the Christian Church, and graveside services were conducted by Samford Lodge, A.F. & A.M., of which Mr. Fussell was a member.

Speights writes that "while she was still very young, her mother died and she came to live in Sabine County with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Hogan about a mile from the Sabine River, north of Pendleton." (Speights, Old Timers of Sabine County, p. 15).

In her sketch of Ola Fussell Smith, on the occasion of her 85 birthday in August, 1963, Virgie Speights wrote that Ola's siblings were "sister, Florence, married Tom Bickley and her brothers...Lonnie Fussell, Lum Fussell, Henry Fussell, Bud Fussell, all of Sabine Parish, Louisiana, the former Miss Annie Fussell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the former Miss Addie Fussell of Shreveport, Louisiana.
