    Notes:

Charles Alan Boyd, 62, of Nacogdoches, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Boyd was born on May 1, 1955, in Hemphill, Texas, the son of Charles Edward Boyd and Julia Oweda Clark Boyd. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Lott officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until service time on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Laird Funeral Home.

Alan was raised in Nacogdoches and went to school there. From an early age, he loved being around people. Alan graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Master's Degree. He spent many years as an adjunct instructor for both SFASU as well as Angelina College and was often called on to substitute for most of the schools in Nacogdoches County. He taught online courses as well. His desire to share his knowledge led him through his calling as a teacher. When he wasn't teaching, Alan could be found either on the porch at his Mamma's or around a fire in the backyard. His family was of utmost importance and he spent every holiday with them, cooking and grilling for the gatherings. To his family, Alan will be remembered as the smartest and nicest person they knew. He had a servant's heart. He enjoyed the times he spent with his nieces and nephews playing with them and found great joy knowing that they were always ready to run races with him. Another favorite time with his family was the reunions they attended every year at Kent, Texas where Alan had become the unofficial host and chief cook. Alan had a great love of music but he most loved history. Being educated was something he was proud of and he felt honored to be able to pass that on to others.

Alan is survived by his mother, Oweda Boyd of Nacogdoches; brothers, Brent Boyd and wife, Kimberly of Palestine, Dwayne Boyd and wife, Megan of Waco; sister, Debra Murdock of Nacogdoches; nephews, Clint Murdock and Joe Murdock; nieces, Lindsay Murdock, Amanda Armijo, Morgan Marshall, Lauren Boyd, and Cristy Gatlin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Boyd.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to University Baptist Church, 2505 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas, 75961.
