    Alfred James Krupicka of Exeter, Nebraska was born on May 27, 1915 to Kristina Bernasek Krupicka and Charles Krupicka Sr. on a farm southeast of Milligan, Nebraska. He was the fourth of five children. Alfred passed away at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont at the age of 103 years, 8 months and 23 days. He attended Milligan Public School through the 10th grade when he began his farming career working for his brother-in-law, Felix Bedlan Sr. for 50 cents a day. He then partnered with his brother, Charles, on a farm near Geneva. From there Alfred worked for Ewalt Amusement Company and Peter Kiewit Construction. Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Alfred volunteered for service in the Coast Guard in February 1942. Alfred received basic training at the Algiers Naval training station, which was across the river from New Orleans. He was then assigned to the Naval Shipyard at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he served until, he was honorably discharged in November 1943. After leaving the service, Alfred worked for "Swede" Bulin as a mechanic in the service station at the corner of Maple and Main Street in Milligan, Nebraska before purchasing the property and starting the Club Loyal in the basement.

    Alfred met Irene Svec at a dance held in the Milligan Auditorium. They were married on August 24, 1948 at the Fillmore County courthouse. Their wedding dance was held in Burress, Nebraska, and the Steinacher Family Harmony Knights band provided the entertainment.

    In their first year of marriage Alfred and Irene lived in Milligan next door to Alfred's parents. Irene and Alfred were employed at the Horseshoe Inn where Irene worked as a waitress and cook, and Alfred was a bartender. The couple then moved to Fairbury where Alfred worked in retail sales at Gambles. From Fairbury, Alfred and Irene went back to farming and rented farms northeast of Milligan and north of Grafton and Fairmont for several years. They moved to Exeter around 1955, where they spent the rest of their married life together. Alfred worked for Mumby's service station in Fairmont for several years, as well as, operating his own service station for 3 years in Fairmont. Alfred and Irene also operated a drive-in called the Frosty Inn located in Exeter. Alfred finished his career working for the Nebraska Department of Roads until he retired.

    In 1965, Alfred started a polka band with his two sons, Larry and David, called the 3K's. In time, his daughters Carolyn and Judy joined the group. They entertained at many establishments throughout the area, including Milligan, KOLN-TV, and the Nebraska State Fair. Alfred and his son David continued to entertain at various events around the area for many years.

    Alfred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who would do anything for his family. He was an accomplished mechanic and carpenter. In addition to performing mechanical work on farm machinery and the family cars, he built the house at Exeter from the ground up with his father's help. Alfred's greatest love was his family and entertaining with his accordion playing Czech music. Alfred was always looking for opportunities to see many family members together for holiday events. The more the better.

    Alfred was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 240 in Milligan for 77 years.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Irene of 60 years; his parents Charles and Kristina; brothers and sisters.

    He is survived in life by sons Larry (Debby) of Lakewood, Colorado and David (Linda) of Exeter, Nebraska; daughters Carolyn (Mark) Brock of Sidney, Nebraska and Judy (Scott) Hulse of York, Nebraska; Grandchildren Jeff (Stasha) Krupicka of Paris, Texas, Jason (Kelley) Krupicka of Denver, Colorado, Jennifer (Todd) Sheffield of Pella, Iowa, Amanda Brock of Portsmouth, Virginia, Andrew Brock of Sidney, NE, Mariah and Mitchel Hulse of York, Nebraska; and Great Grandchildren Emma and James Krupicka of Denver, Colorado.

    Louis Alfred Krupicka was born to Charles Krupicka and Kristina Bernasek Krupicka on May 22, 1917 at Tobias, Nebraska and passed away September 13, 2015 at the Friend Manor in Friend, Nebraska at the age of 98 years. He was one of 5 children in the family.

    Louis met his lifelong partner Elsie June Luzum at Sunset Dance Hall in Lincoln. They were united in marriage November 2, 1944 at the courthouse in Wilber, Nebraska. A reception followed the ceremony at Tabor Hall with a dance by the U-Neta Orchestra. This marriage was blessed with 2 children.

    Louis and Elsie resided on a farm near rural Milligan for the first 6 years of marriage. They then purchased their farm near McCool Junction and remained there until 1991 when they purchased a house in the town of McCool Junction. Louis was a very wonderful accordion player. He learned to play the accordion at the age of 8 years old, and played the accordion at many polka dances and family get togethers.

    Louis enjoyed farming; he planted milo and soybeans in fields and had cattle, hogs and sheep. Louis and Elsie also raised chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys.

    Louis was preceded in death by is parents Charles and Kristina Krupicka of Milligan, wife Elsie, sisters Mamie Bedlan of Milligan and Hazel Koca of Shelby and brother Charles Krupicka Jr. of Geneva.

    He is survived by his son Lavern Krupicka of McCool Junction, daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Gary Vodicka of Fairmont, Nebraska, grandchildren Shelley (Vodicka) Timmermans and husband Mike of Hampton, Randy Vodicka of Fairmont, great grandchildren Zachary and Mikaela Timmermans of Hampton, and brother Alfred Krupicka of Fairmont.

    Felix Alfred Bedlan was born May 9, 1928 to Felix and Mamie Krupicka Bedlan in rural Friend, NE. and passed away on March 7, 2019 at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 7 days. He was baptized at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan, NE. on June 7, 1928 and was confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ohiowa, NE. in April, 1948.

    He received his first 8 years of education at country school District 57 near his farm home and graduated from Milligan High School in 1945. His draft number never came up before World War II ended. At the age of 18 he had his own business operating a Texaco gas station in Milligan, NE.

    He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Meyer of Ohiowa, NE. on September 9, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa. In March, 1948, they moved to Fairbury where he operated a Mobil Gas Station and Sporting Goods. In l960, he started Bedlan's Sporting Goods. He had a special interest in antique firearms. This became a hobby and business where he and Jean travelled to almost every state buying, selling, collecting and displaying.

    He was past president of the Winchester Arms Collectors Association, Winchester Club of America and the local Fairbury Optimist Club. He taught NRA Rated and Nebraska Hunter Safety classes every fall for 40 years, for 11 years old and older, sponsored by the Fairbury Optimist Club. He was a charter member of the American Lutheran and Faith Lutheran Churches in Fairbury and served on several committees and Sunday School.

    He loved to hunt with his dogs and enjoyed the outdoors. He would take his sons and grandsons hunting whenever possible. A quote from Ernest Hemingway describes him perfectly, "Best of all he loved the fall."

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Jackie Hromadka, and brother-in-law Milo Hromadka.

    He is survived by his wife, Jean; 3 sons: Larry (Barb), Dan (Mary Kay), Bruce (Patty) all of Fairbury. Six grandchildren: David (Laura) Bedlan of Fairbury, Barry (Patty) Bedlan, of Frisco, TX., Neal (Cari) Bedlan of Yutan, NE., Sarah (Doug) Harper of Las Vegas, NV., Beth Bedlan of Arcadia, FL., Briana Bedlan of Fairbury. Thirteen great-grandchildren: Rayanne, Samantha and Alecia Bedlan of Fairbury; Clara and Lydia Heislen of Las Vegas, NV.; Parker, Miles, Logan, Nicholas Bedlan of Frisco, TX., Hayden, Haley, Hudson Bedlan of Yutan, NE.; Marcus Martinez of Fairbury. Sister, Lorene Hromadka of Milligan, NE.

    Services will be Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Ken Hart officiating. Memorials will go to Faith Lutheran Church & Cedars Home for Children in Lincoln. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

    Lorene Marie (Bedlan) Hromadka was born to Felix Sr. and Mamie
    (Krupicka) Bedlan on December 14,1931 on a farm south of Friend, and
    passed away July 10, 2021 at Geneva, Nebraska.

    Lorene grew up on the family farm where her father was born south of
    Friend. Lorene was the youngest child born to Felix and Mamie. She
    attended country school near her home and graduated from Milligan
    Public Schools with the class of 1949. While growing up, Lorene
    enjoyed the company and stories told in Czech by her fraternal
    grandmother, Meri Bedlan. Lorene was baptized at St. Wenceslaus
    Catholic Church in Milligan and remained a member till her death.
    Lorene pursued a teaching certification after graduation and taught in
    numerous rural schools prior to and after marriage.

    Lorene was united in marriage to Milo Hromadka on April 5, 1951. The
    couple made their home on the Hromadka family farm north of Milligan.
    They were blessed with the birth of two daughters; Jane Marie and
    Jacqueline Sue. Lorene helped Milo with the daily farming operations
    at their home and raising their two daughters. When her daughters
    began school, Lorene waitressed at local establishments in Milligan.
    Later, she was employed at Pizza Hut in Geneva until retirement.

    Lorene was an avid bowler and was a member of several championship
    bowling teams. She enjoyed collecting and decorating her home with
    antiques. Each holiday her home could be found with unique items that
    she had purchased at local shops and craft fairs. After retirement
    Lorene enjoyed traveling with her friends to Las Vegas, Florida and
    Washington D.C. Her catholic faith was present in her daily life and
    she often volunteered her time to the St. Wenceslaus Alter Society and
    cleaning the church. In their later years, she and Milo enjoyed going
    for drives around Fillmore county, visiting and leaving flowers at the
    cemetery. They could always be found each day having lunch and
    watching the noon news.

    Lorene's greatest joy were her granddaughters, Jessica and Jenna.
    Together, Lorene and Milo attended many dance recitals and school
    functions. They enjoyed having the girls on the farm for long holiday
    breaks. Lorene liked having her granddaughters along for shopping
    trips and helping to decorate her home. Lorene would later look
    forward to visits and mail from her great-grandchildren.

    While still at home, Lorene continued to attend Sunday mass with the
    help of her special friend Ann Jansky. She enjoyed her weekly visits,
    from her Caring Friends assistant Lisa Paul. Lorene remained on the
    Hromadka family farm until March of 2020. She was currently residing
    at Heritage Crossings in Geneva. While at Heritage she enjoyed
    attending church services and watching rosary each day.

    Survivors include daughter Jane (Sam) Antholz, York; Granddaughters
    Jessica (Tucker) Reed, Flagstaff, Arizona and Jenna (Zack) Adamson,
    Seward; Great-Grandchildren Gabby and Grayce Reed, and Henry Adamson;
    Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Milo; daughter Jacqueline
    Sue; her parents Felix Sr. and Mamie Bedlan; and brother Felix Bedlan.

    LaRene was born December 3, 1930, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Charles and Anne (Koca) Krupicka. She attended Geneva Public Schools and after graduation went to work as a phone operator in York, Nebraska. On June 27, 1953, LaRene was united in marriage to Robert Busler at the First Presbyterian Church in York.

    The couple moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and then back to York before moving to Columbus in 1957. LaRene was a member of Navy Mothers, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid reader.
