She was born on November 13, 1911, in Washington, IN. Her parents were Albert and Jennie Mae (Herrin) McLemore.

She married Frank Black on September 17, 1933.

She was retired from employment with the Loogootee School Corporation as a cook. She was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church.

She died at 7:45 p.m. on April 13, 1998, at the Loogootee Nursing Home.

Survivors included two half-sisters, Betty Jerger, of Jasper, IN and Joyce Foregash, of Pennsylvania, and two half-brothers, Jim McLemore, of Pennsylvania, and Bill McLemore, of Ohio.

She was preceeded in death by a daughter, Lynn, who died in 1973, her husband, Frank, who died in 1977, and three half-sisters.

Avis married Frank Y. Black on 17 Sep 1933. Frank was born on 20 Dec 1905 in Martin County, Indiana; died on 15 Dec 1977 in Martin County, Indiana; was buried in Goodwill Cemetery, Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

She was born April 21, 1954 and was the daughter of Frank and Avis (McLemore) Black.

She was a 1972 graduate of Loogootee High School and was also a graduate of the Vincennes School of Practical Nursing. She was employed at the Washington Nursing Center in Washington, IN.

She was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church.

She died at approximately 10:40 p.m. October 10, 1973 in a two-car accident on SR 54 west of Bloomfield. The driver of the other vehicle crossed the center line and was drunk at the time of the accident. Her fiance who was also in the car was not killed in the accident.
