    Evelyn Irene Apfelbeck was born to Ludvik and Helen Apfelbeck on January 5, 1928. She had one brother, Alvin Apfelbeck. Evelyn and her family lived on a farm near Wilber. She went to country school through eighth grade. Evelyn attended high school in Wilber. During this time, she lived with her grandparents for one year, and then shared a rented room in town. After graduating from high school, Evelyn took the test to be a teacher. She then taught at the same school she attended for three years.

    Evelyn married Fred Dvorak Jr. on June 15, 1948. They lived on a farm near Wilber. To them three children were born, Bonnie Jean, Sandra Sue and David Dean. While living on a farm near Friend, Evelyn started working at Formfit in Crete. In 1960 the family moved to a home in Wilber. They joined the Methodist Church. In the 1970's, they owned and operated Dvorak's Tavern in Wilber. Later she helped at the Saline County Aging Services for several years.

    Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Charlesworth of Lincoln and Sandi Coon of Geneva; grandchildren Micki Wollenburg, Tara Coon, Darren Dvorak, Dirk Coon, April, Marge, Steve, Jim, Jackie and Mike; 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and brother.

    Memorial Service: Monday, August 22, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Wilber United Methodist Church.

    Memorials may be directed to Saline County Aging Services where she volunteered for twelve years.

    Survivors: husband, Joseph of Wilber; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Tanya of Fayetteville, New York; Mark of Kansas City, Missouri; Jeff and Kim of Blue Ridge, Texas; grandchildren, Regan, Brant, Blake, Taylor, Cade, and Galen; brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Charlotte Apfelbeck of Lima, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Lolly and Richard Lannom of Norman, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents.
    Funeral services Thursday 2 p.m., First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wilber. Visitation beginning Wednesday 5 p.m., Kuncl Funeral Home, Wilber. Interment, Wilber Czech Cemetery. Memorials in care of the family.

    Otto Lee Apfelbeck, 83, passed away Feb. 24, 2016, at 3 p.m., at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices in Cridersville, Ohio. Otto was born Sept. 18, 1932, on a farm in Saline County, to Otto E. and Alice (Brydl) Apfelbeck, who preceded him in death. On July 20, 1958, he married the love of his life, Charlotte K. (Vogelgesang) Apfelbeck, who survives him in Lima, Ohio.

    Otto attended a one-room school through the eighth grade and graduated from Wilber High School. While attending Fairbury Junior College in Fairbury, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he became a member of Acacia Fraternity and earned his bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, Otto joined Westinghouse and continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Through Westinghouse he relocated to Lima where he worked as an electrical engineer in the Aerospace Division, receiving numerous patents until his retirement after 39 years of dedicated service. Otto enjoyed gardening, his apple orchard, making wine from his grape arbor, the Bluffton Garden Club, Life Long Learning classes at OSU and working as a committee member for special events with Boy Scout Troop 37.

    Otto is survived by two children: Laura (Joe) Freveletti of Inverness, Illinois, and Rodney (Jean) Apfelbeck of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren: Anna Kaye Freveletti, and Patrick and Kate Apfelbeck; a sister-in-law: Jill Vogelgesang of Lima, Ohio; and two nephews, Joseph and Christian Vogelgesang. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Arlene Horacek and Lorraine Lannom, and a brother-in-law, Rick J. Vogelgesang.

    A funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at the South Side Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Officiating the service were the Rev. Steve Brown and the Rev. Todd Cosart. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnny Appleseed Park District or the Black Swamp Area Council Boy Scouts of America. The family has entrusted the Chiles-Laman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, in assisting them with arrangements
