    Donald Melvin Latham, 70, of Pineland, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his residence.

    Donald was born June 17, 1947 in Hemphill, Texas to Charley and Mona Easley Latham. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. Later he worked as a truck driver for Jimmy Huffman Logging. He and his wife, Dorothy Trotter Latham married November 26, 1968 in Milton, Louisiana and went on to have four children. Donald holds the Sam Rayburn lake record for the biggest Opelousas catfish ever caught on that lake.

    Donald is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Latham; his sons, Donny Latham and wife, Dion, of Pineland, Texas and J.R. Latham and wife, Candace, of San Augustine, Texas; his daughters, Debbie Jacks and husband, Lee, of Pineland, Texas and Betty Austin and husband, Keith, of Brookeland, Texas; brother, Ronnie Latham and wife, Judy, of Lufkin, Texas; sisters, Elna Faye Kincel of Hemphill, Texas, Dorothy Bayless and husband, Gary, of Pineland, Texas, Christine Jacks of Lufkin, Texas, and Margie Gayle Williams of Broaddus, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Mona Latham; brother, Gerald Latham, and sisters, Willma Jean Dickerson, Barbara Ann Bragg, and Marcille Latham.


    Visitation for Donald will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 and until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas.

    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Lott Cemetery.
