At the time of the 1910 census, 13 year old Calvin was a boarder and farm laborer in the home of Chester and Virgie VARNELL of Van Zandt County, Texas.

He shared a headstone with Ethel B. McLemore (1906-2000), and under his name was a masonic symbol.
