1. | Nicholas McLemore, Tn Or Ky > Louisiana was born between 1811 and 1813 in Tennessee; died before 1880. Notes:
Thought, but not proven, to be a brother of Keton J. McLemore, whom he lived next door to in Sabine Parish, Louisiana at the time of the 1850 Federal Census. It ia ASSUMED, but not proven, that both are sons of Sterling McLEMORE of Kentucky, and grandson of Ephraim McLEMORE and Hannah HUDSPETH. He appears to have been born in either Tennessee or Kentucky.
Melba Gene McLemore notes that on 26 Jun 1851, Nicholas H. McLemore, in consideration of the sum of $150 sold to a third party property that had formerly been owned by K.J. McLemore, in the State of Louisiana, Parish of Sabine.
(Research):
In Kathy Casagranda's 1850 Sabine Parish (Louisiana) Census Transcription, she has the family listed as follows:
620 McLemore, Nicholas 39 M Farmer Tennessee
620 McLemore, Jane 31 F Tennessee
620 McLemore, Sterling 14 M Mississippi
620 McLemore, Evaline 11 F Tennessee
620 McLemore, William 10 M Tennessee
620 McLemore, Jas 8 M Tennessee
620 McLemore, Laura 5 F Mississippi
620 McLemore, Robt 4 M Mississippi
620 McLemore, Chas 1 M Mississippi
Casagranda notes that the Nicholas McLemore family was still living in Sabine Parish at the time of the 1860 census with children James, Robert, Richard and Martha. After 1860, there were no further records for this family in the Parish. However, she noted that a large number of individuals named McLemore lived in Union Parish.
Listed immediately prior to the Nicholas McLemore's family in 1850 was that of K.J. and Rebecca McLemore. The relationship between the two families is not known with certainty, but they appear to be related based on their migration patterns and proximity.
In 1860, the family is transcribed by Casagranda as follows:
689 McLemore N.H. 47 M Minister-Meth $450 Ohio
689 McLemore Mrs. 42 F Tennessee
689 McLemore James 19 M Farm Laborer Tennessee
689 McLemore, Laura 17 F Tennessee

9. | Richard McLemore (1.Nicholas1) was born about 1849 in Tennessee; and died. Notes:
Not listed his family in Louisiana on the 1850 census, but listed as an 11 year old in 1860, born in Tennessee. This should be resolved. Perhaps he is a nephew, and not a son? Or may one of both census records were in error. He may have simply been accidentally omitted in 1850, or born late in 1850 in Louisiana, and shown in error as born earlier in Tennesse in 1860.
|
11. | L. Felix McLemore (1.Nicholas1) was born in Sep 1853 in Louisiana; died in Feb 1907 in Texas. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore shows him as a son of Nicholas McLemore, and suspects him to be a cousin to her ancestor of the same age, also named Felix H. McLemore. He was missed on the 1860 census enumeration, but is on the 1870 census with his parents.
In an email dated July 29, she wrote that "The Felix, Sarah & Pollie ...was the son of Nicholas McLemore. Nicholas McLemore is enumerated in 1850 living next to Keton McLemore in Sabine Parish. His Kids moved toward Kaufman County, Texas and then on to Dallas County Texas by 1900-1910. Felix's daughter Pollie did not live very long. Felix, the son of Nicholas, was murdered in Parker County while camping on the side of the road. He was an accountant as was robbed. Ironically when he was killed my Felix was also living in Parker County...."

There is a Robert and Bessie McLemore family living in the City of Dallas, JP #1, at the time of the 1930 census enumeration, however this appears to be another family entirely. This conclusion was drawn due to (1) the 11 year difference in ages between the two Robert McLemore's (2) the fact the Dallas couple's son is named Robert W. McLemore, Jr. and not Robert H. McLemore, Jr. and (3) the fact that this couple appears to have been living in Palo Pinto County ten years earlier, whereas the other Robert McLemore was married and living in Fort Worth. Bessie McLemore of Dallas may have had the maiden name of CLARK, as a 15 year old Jessie Clark was living with them in 1920.

Famed wrestling promotor, long associated with the Dallas Sportatorium. Built by the Cox Fence Company on the occasion of the Texas Centennial celebration in 1936 , the original Dallas Sportatorium was constructed in the shape of an octagon and played host to weekly wrestling shows promoted initially by Burt Willoughby, and later by Ed McLemore. Beginning in 1948 , it was also the site of the Big D Jamboree , a weekly country music showcase similar in format to the Grand Ole Opry and Louisiana Hayride; portions of the Jamboree were broadcast nationally on the CBS Radio Network. The Sportatorium was destroyed by fire on May 1 , 1953 , in what was rumored to be an act of arson by a rival wrestling promoter. It was quickly rebuilt at the same location as a rectangular venue (with an octagonal seating configuration similar to the original), and reopened on September 22 of that year, billed at the time as The Million-Dollar Sportatorium. The arena also held boxing events and concerts featuring up-and-coming rock stars (including, most notably, an early performance by Bruce Springsteen in 1974 ) over the years, very much in the same manner as its Los Angeles counterpart, the Grand Olympic Auditorium , did during this time frame. In early 1966 , McLemore's promotion was taken over by wrestler Jack Adkisson, who was known in the ring as Fritz Von Erich. Adkisson's promotion, which became known in the early 1980s as World Class Championship Wrestling and featured his sons as its main stars, was the most famous and successful wrestling federation to run regularly at the Dallas Sportatorium.

Heart Attack Kills Promoter
Dallas (AP)-A second heart attack claimed the life of Ed McLemore, long time wrestling promoter Thursday. Rosary was set for tonight in the Crane Funeral Chapel here.
For 30 years, McLemore promoted wrestling in Dallas, which is believed to be the longest period for any one city in the nation.
McLemore also promoted the Saturday night "Big D Jamboree," featuring country and western music. The program originated from the Sportatorium, a wrestling areana he owned.
He booked wrestling talent all over Texas and survived several wrestling wars.
A Dallas native, McLemore suffered a heart attack last February and remained away from his office for more than six months.
Famed singing and movie star Elvis Presley once credited McLemore for providing the impetus for his fame by hiring him for the "Big D Jamboree." Presley once worked for McLemore for about $75 nightly.
Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Rose; three daughters, Mrs. William GRIFFITH of Midland; Mrs. Jean BULLINGTON and Mrs. George BAUM of Dallas; two brothers, Robert McLemore of Dallas and Patrick McLemore of San Antonio; and 13 grandchildren.
(Courtesty of Melba Gene McLemore)
