    Abbie Verleen Smith

    Abbie Verleen Smith, 85, of Pineland died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Nacogdoches. Born in Bronson in 1917, she married Lonnie L. Smith in 1937. They moved to Nederland where they made their home for 50 years. She belonged to Rebekah Lodge, where she was a life member. She was also involved in the recent building of the "Community Center" there. She enjoyed family, friends, and music. She retired from a career in banking in the loan officer servicing department at First Security of Beaumont in 1983. Survivors: Daughters, Nancy CHILDERS of Pineland and Ginger DuVAL and husband Walter of Ponca City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Ken DuVAL, David DuVAL, Chris CHILDERS, and Nancy BROWN; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan DuVAL and Autumn BROWN. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lonnie L. SMITH. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pat A. Riley Funeral Home chapel in Nederland. Interment followed at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Pt. Neches. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Bronson.

    Nancy Carolyn Welch, 72, of Bronson, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in Hemphill Care Center after an illness.

    Nancy was born March 18, 1947 in Beaumont, Texas to Lonnie and Verlene Crouch Smith. She was a school teacher for 40 years before retiring from West Sabine Elementary. She had lived in Sabine County for 20 years, having previously lived in Nederland and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bronson.

    She is survived by her husband of 15 years, D. T. Welch of Bronson; sons, David Welch and wife, Sharon, of Anchorage, Alaska; Barry Welch and wife, Marci, of San Augustine, and John Welch and wife, Lindsey, also of San Augustine; daughters, Connie Warr and husband, Keith, of Nacogdoches and Christy Brown and husband, Malcolm, of Center; adopted son, Chris Childers; sister, Ginger Duvall; grandchildren, Davis, Natalie, Ashley, Ryan, Brady, Sam, Hannah, Briannah, Dustin, Olivia, Addiline, Colton, and Dillon; great grandchildren, Cooper and Finley; nephews, David Duvall and Ken Duvall and niece, Nancy Duvall.

    A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Bronson First Baptist Church.

    Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home.
