Cheryl Fullen, the wife of Robert's son Don Wheelan Fullen, writes that "Robert was married 4-5 times..Effie was one wife" but that Kathryn Wilkins was her mother-in-law, and the mother of Robert's three sons, Larry, Don (her husband) and Austin.

    Notes:

Ernest ran for Mayor of San Augustine in 1995. He was defeated by Gertrude Lane, the first African American Mayor of that city.

The following paid political advertisement ran in the San Augustine Tribune prior to the election. (13 April 1995):

Some of you have asked "Who is Ernest Easley?" As of April 1, 1995 I have been a resident of San Augustine for eight years. During these eight years, I have been a volunteer worker with Care and Share serving as an interviewer and as president for the past two years.

Having 40 years of business experience and commited to a strong future of San Augustine, I will do my best to represent you as Mayor. My office will be open to you......

Since there are some of you I still do not know, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you something about myself. I was born March 2, 1927 in Hemphill and attended school in Hemphill, Yellowpine (two room school house), and Dallas. After graduation, I served almost two years in the U.S. Army - twelve months of this time in Italy.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, I secured a position with a national finance corporation where I was employed for over 38 years; having worked in Houston, Beaumont, Harlingen, San Antonio, and Dallas. For several years I managed their bank in Dallas.

After retiring and selecting San Augustine as my new home, I cam out of retirement and was elected vice-president/manager of the First National Bank Branch in Broaddus where I served until April, 1989.

I have been married to the former Billie Sue SMITH of Center for 44 years. We have a daughter Patti Easley BOSWELL of DeSoto, Texas and a son Dr. Ernest Lee EASLEY of Odessa, Texas. Also, grandsons and two granddaughters.

After becoming a resident of San Augustine, I joined the First Baptist Church and became active in community affairs. For the past two years, I have served as your City Councilman, Place No. 1. I have served as Chairman of the Leadership Committee and Director of the Economic Development Council. Recently, I was elected Director of Tri-County Community Action, Inc. In my church I have served as church treasurer for seven years, Director of Adult 4 Sunday School Department, served as a member of the Pastor Search Committee, and a member of the Building Committee for our Christian Activities building.

In the December 19, 2002 San Augustine Tribune, p 15, an article was written updating friends on his health. He had been diagnosed with Acute Myleogenous Leukemia in January, and spent 29 days in Chemotherapy at M.D. Anderson, but had not gone into remission. His son, Earnest (sic) Lee Easley, had been pastor of Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia since February. Daughter Patti, and her husband Charles, had been in Hartsville, South Carolina where he was the pastor of the Lakeview Baptist Church.

His obituary (following) was in the March 7, 2007 Sabine County Reporter. A similar obituary was published in the March 8, 2007 issue of the San Augustine Tribune.

    Mozelle Hillyer
Mozelle Hillyer, of Fannett, passed into the arms of her Savior on March 4, 2019. She was born on April 17, 1930, to Easuel and Bertie Fullen Clark in Fairmount, Texas. She grew up in a family of nine children, with four other sisters and four brothers.

One of the greatest loves of her life was her family. To say that she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother is an understatement. Her heart was so big; and she was so full of life! Mozelle was a friend to everyone she met, and just never met a stranger. She knew the importance of loving God, and loving others, and modelled this for her daughters.

As an adult, there wasn't anything Mozelle couldn't do in business if she set her mind to it. She worked for a while as a real estate agent in the Dallas area, then started her own jewelry retail business while taking side work as a notary public. She became known as "The Jewelry Lady".

She is survived by her two sisters, JoNell LaRoue of Orange, Texas and Reba Barnett of Pineland, Texas; daughters, Sylvia Carlisle and husband, Gary Sr.; Becky Person and husband, Vance; Angela Richardson and husband, Robert, all of Fannett, Texas; grandchildren, Gary Carlisle, Jr. and wife, Kristie, of Midland, Texas; Tara Prestridge and husband, Derek, of Leander, Texas; Bethany Vaccaro and husband, Matthew, of Beaumont, Texas; Hannah Barnett and husband, Zeb, of Beaumont; Stephanie Richardson and Paul Richardson of Fannett; great-grandchildren, Rory Carlisle, Cooper Carlisle, and Tanner Carlisle all of Midland; and Whitney Prestridge and Charleigh Prestridge of Leander; and many nieces and nephews.

Mozelle is preceded in death by her spouse, Jack Hillyer; her parents, Easuel and Bertie Clark; and siblings, Bobbie Hankins, Lavergne Smith, Easuel Clark, Jr., Knox Clark, Doil Clark, and Bill Clark.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to The Arboretum in Winnie for helping us to take care of our Momma and Mamaw in the last months of her life. We are so grateful for the kindness and tender care each one of the staff showed to her. We would also like to recognize the staff and residents of Atria Collier Park, of Beaumont, where she lived for almost 10 years.

A gathering of Mrs. Hillyer's family and friends will begin 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

    Notes:

Sidney Lynn Smith, 78, of the Fairmount Community in Hemphill, Texas passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Sabine County Hospital.

Lynn was born in Fairmount, Texas on June 3, 1943 to Fred D. Smith and Laverne Clark Smith. He was a lifetime resident of Sabine County and had served his country as a member of the United States Army. He served Sabine County as County Commissioner for Precinct 2 for many years, and he was a long time member of East Mayfield Baptist Church.

Lynn was a wise and prudent man and he taught his children that value of hard work. He woke up every morning with one thought in mind and that was "who can I help today". He was not a perfect man but he was redeemed by Jesus and that is the most important thing. He had battled Parkinson's for the last eight years of his life, but Parkinson's did not win. He is completely healed now. He always had and continued to love his family deeply, take care of his place and, of course, his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Smith of Fairmount; son, Steve R. Smith of Fairmount; daughters, Cindy Box and husband, David, of Huntington and Sheila Cowee and husband, David, of Douglass; brother, Tommy R. Smith and wife, Belinda, of Lufkin; sister, Glynda "Guinnie" Smith of Jasper; grandchildren, Laura, Allison, Mariah, Danielle, and Eli; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Laverne Smith and sister, Lanell Smith.

A Memorial Service for Lynn will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Eddie Ballard and Bro. Gene Lee officiating.

It is his family's request, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions instead be made to East Mayfield Baptist Church.
