Sarah Ann E. Boyett

Notes:

When she was about 72 years old, S.A.E. Boyette was granted a pension based on her husband's service in the Confederate States army. In this pension application, she indicated that she had lived in Jasper County for about 50 years. On the pension application she reported that the only property she owned was 130 acres of land and six cows, and that she needed the pension as a means of subsistence. As the application was signed with her mark, it appears that she also was unable to read or write. Her tomstone indicates she lived to age 70.

Ruby Boyett Burkett wrote that "we don't actually know when the McLemore family purchased it (the old Boyett homestead), but we feel surthe first McLemore owners were John and Sara Ann Boyett McLemore. She was Noah Boyetts youngest whole sister so the place was still partly in the Boyett family and so it happened that the McLemores began to bury their dead in the Boyett cemetery but renamed it the McLemore Cemetery. One of the McLemore relatives told us it had always been the McLemore cemetery but of course we know that is not the case. We know, for a fact, that one more Boyett was buried in the cemetery. I don't know the date of the last funeral but have a first person account of the funeral. My Aunt Lula Love Boyett, wife of Noah Jackson Boyett told me this story. On a cold winter day the youngest daughter of Noah and Susan was laid to rest in the Boyett Cemetery. She was Sarah Ann "Sallie" Bevil. Aunt Lula said by the time the graveside service had concluded they were about frozen so the McLemore family invited them in to get warm before they left to return to their homes. I seem to recall Aunt Lula saying the McLemores also served them refreshments? I would imagine they were served hot coffee and probably a desert.

Several generations of the family lived in the home before it was finally replaced with a new, more modern home. At the time I went there to visit, Lee and Othalia McLemore were living there...... He then let me borrow pictures of the original home to bring to Beaumont to have printed and enlarged. I later returned the originals, along with enlargements and he was thrilled."

John (son of Tobias McLemore, Sr. and Sarah "Sallie" ???) was born about 1822 in North Carolina; died in Jan 1891 in Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Zion Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Jasper County, Texas. According to Minnie McLemore, he could not read or write; Rose Ella taught him as well as her children. According to Othalia (Mrs. Lee) McLemore, Sam wore two sets of glasses at once, pushing one up on his forehead. He died after getting a stone bruise on his heel at his home in Erin, Texas.

The information about Samuel McFarland McLemore and his descendants was generously provided by Nan McCoy Kittell. It is from a Living Family History loose leaf notebook she prepared for the fifth anniversary of the Samuel McFarland McLemore reunion held in June 1984. Her information was updated at subsequent reunions. The final reunion was held in 1999 at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Jasper.

I ASSUMED this is the ELTON that Bernis D Thacker (2523 Laurelcrest Memphis, TN 38133-5190 bdt0915551@msn.com) lists as the oldest child of Thomas and Sophia McLemore. The 1910 census did show that Sophia was the mother of 6 children, only five who were living. The children listed at the time of the 1910 census were John E., Myrtie, Fannie, Maggie and Ary A.

Also, this appears to be the same person as the 27 year old John E. McLemore, married to 22 year old Anne P, who was living in San Augustine, Texas (ED#176) and working as a barber at the time of the 1920 census. He died before the 1930 census. John W. Clark shows his date of death as much earlier, circa 1910.

Mrs. Fannie B. Gillespie, 79, of Reeves, died in Natchitoches on Saturday, May 3, at 12:25 a.m., following an extended illness.

Survivors include two sons, Chester Gillespie of Natchitoches, and Richard Gillespie of Reeves; two daughters, Mrs. Herman Jenkins of Marthaville, and Mrs. Tommy Nettles of Ft. Worth, Tex.; three sisters, Miss Maggie McLemore, and Mrs. Dan Prado, both of Hemphill, Tex., and Mrs. Ara McDaniel of Longview, Tex.; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 5, at the Robeline First Baptist Church, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. W. W. Read, and the Rev. Richard Gillespie officiating. Burial was in the Robeline Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home.

Frank McLemore was a traveling salesman. When he made his rounds,one of the first customers he called on were Dale and Evon (McLemore) Tisdale, who had a General Store in Zavalla. He would use a mirror in the back of their store to shave before he called on the rest of his customers. He did this because he rose very early each morning, and didn't want to disturb his wife. He loved anything colored blue. He used unusual expressions, such as "Great Garden Seed" and "an elephant's plenty." He was called "Daddy Mac" by grandchildren. Affiliations: Masonic Lodge, Dewitt Clinton Chapter. Baptist Church. Hobbies: Gospel Music, gardening.

He and his wife served consecutive terms as Postmaster in Jasper County early in the century.

ROY McLEMORE, BOY OF FEW WORDS Ivy McLemore often told his children this story favorite story about his younger brothers: When Roy and Lee were rather small children, Roy received a new coin purse of the type that snaps together on the top. He was playing with it while sitting beside the fireplace one night, when he inadvertently snapped it onto his lower lip. In a voice showing some consternation he said, "Come hyar, Lee!" Lee was engrossed with something else and ignored Roy for the moment. In a somewhat more insistant voice, Roy repeated "Come hyar, Lee!." When Lee still had not come, Roy's voice rose in a crescendo and, with the purse pinching his lip, causing excruciating pain, he fairly screamed, "I SAID COME HYAR, LEE!!" 1920 Federal Census It appears that Roy was working as an Oil Field Laborer in Iowa Park, Wichita County, Texas at the time of this census. His listing appears as follows: McLemore, John R. Lodger M w 24 S Tx Tx Tx Laborer Oil Field He is living in the Lodging home of Dale and Vivian PIERCE, both from Iowa. This census enumeration was completed in January, 1920. Living in the boarding home at the same time was Walter Winfield STRONG. In an amazing coincidence, meaning absolutely nothing, Walter's great grandson, Tom STRONG, would some sixty years later marry Roy McLemore's half first cousin, twice removed, Melinda McLEMORE.


Former President of Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas. The student union building is named in his honor. Tombstone is inscribed, 'TX, PFC, Company A, 358th Infantry, WW I, PH."

THE PARIS NEWS, 30 Apr 1961. 'On the eve of his retirement after 35 years association with Paris Junior College, Dr. J.R. McLemore, its president since 1929, died of a heart attack Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at his home, 2343 Culbertson St. Due to retire within a month as head of the college, he had been named honoree for the Ex-Students Association annual spring banquet on May 20, the same group having presented an appreciation plaque to him at the 1960 fall homecoming game. Joining the faculty of the two year old college in 1926 as basketball coach and instructor, he became its head three years later, and guided its growth, from obscure quarters in Paris High School basement and a shoestring budget, to a million and a half dollar plant, and a high scholastic standing. Monday evening, 'Doctor Mac's' body will lie from 7 to 9 p.m. in DeShong Chapel on the college campus, and Tuesday at 2 p.m. service will be held at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home. Dr. Ronald Prince of First Baptist Church, where Dr. McLemore was a deacon, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. John Shuler of First Methodist Church. Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. McLemore, the former Miss Willie Mae Robinson; these children: Capt. John Robinson (Pondus) McLemore, US Air Force, Panama City, Fla.; Mrs. Newton O. Felps, Baytown, and Mrs. Wallace Finfrock, Dallas; four grandchildren; these sisters and brothers; Mrs. Robert Morgan, Kirbyville; Mrs. Ollie Newman and Mrs. Clyde Wilkinson, Houston; Frank McLemore, Beaumont, and Ivan McLemore and Lee McLemore, both of Jasper. Son of Samuel M. and Rose Ella (Bean) McLemore, John Roy McLemore was born at Erin, Jasper County, 8 Jan 1896. He attended Sam Houston State Teachers College, Huntsville, and later, East Texas State at Commerce, receiving his master's degree from the University of Texas, and the honorary LLD from Howard Payne College. He studied for a time at the University of Dijon in France, after World War I service with the 90th Division, and wore the Purple Heart for injuries during that period. He married Miss Robinson at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Robinson at Biardstown, 27 Dec 1920, and they taught the nearby Burnett school together for two years. In the spring of 1926, Dr. McLemore taught French before joining the PJC faculty here for the fall term. He became the first president of the Texas Public Junior College Association; headed also the Junior College Athletic Association, the Texas Association of Universities and Colleges, and was treasurer of the Committee on Cooperation between Colleges and Public Schools and was listed in 'Who's Who in America.

She and Hank were unable to have children together, and he believed that Lucy "died of a broken heart."

According to his World War I draft registration card, Cecil was born July 31, 1886 in Kirbyville, Texas. When he registered for the draft, on June 5, 1917, we was single and living in Davis, Oklahoma, working at Farming for Jim Fountine. Cecil was described as Medium heighth and build, with Grey eyes and Brown Hair. He was not a veteran.

Cecil is buried in the Patterson National Cemetery, in Stanislaus County, California. His tombstone is inscribed: Cecil Ernest McLemore, Arkansas, Pvt Co E, 113 Infantry, World War I, July 31, 1886, March 18, 1961. Teri Stuart instead shows his date of death as March 14.

He was said to have had a twin sister. Census records have not been located to verify this.

Services for Reginald Leland "Reggie" McDaniel, 79, of Lake Cherokee, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. The services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.

Reggie McDaniel died Friday, June 19, 2009, peacefully at his home on Lake Cherokee. A graduate of Longview High School, class of 1946, Reggie attended Kilgore College from 1946 to 1948. He then attended Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating in 1951 with a degree in forestry.

After college, Reggie enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 7th Armored Division, Company B, 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1954.

Reggie was an established businessman who co-owned Longview Creosoting Co. with his brothers. He retired from Martin Gas Sales after many years of service. Reggie had many passions, including his love of dogs and the outdoors. He instilled a love of fishing and hunting throughout his family, and he will be greatly missed at future campfires.

Reggie was known for always enjoying life. He loved a good smoke, a cold drink of Weller and a good puzzle. He was a member in good standing of the "ol Farts Poker Club,"' and he wanted the boys to know "he was all in." He was always willing to help out those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Tim and Anna McDaniel; and one brother, Ted McDaniel.

Reggie is survived by his loving wife, June Beckham McDaniel; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Vanessa McDaniel; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dennis Jones; daughters, Sondra Willougby and Glenna Havard; son and daughter-in-law, David and Libby Havard; grandchildren, Leslie and Jason Hinton, Ashley and James Croswell, Leland Chance and Shannon McDaniel, Lydia Jones, and Marissa, Shelbie, Slade, Shaine, Jennifer, Jill, Carrie, Julie and Jaycee; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. T.F. McLemore lived at 2401 Forrest in Beaumont and Duard lived nearby. He drove past the house every day in his 1935 Ford, which had a very low seat. Duard was rather short, and so his head was also very low (in the car). One day, as he came around the corner headed for home, some person on the front porch (it may have been Emile's wife, Grace) exclaimed "There goes Duard's car, but where's Duard?"

"Edythe Evelyn McLemore McCoy died in Jasper, Texas on Sunday, November 17th at age 81 years, 1 month and 2 days. A Jasper County native, Mrs. McCoy grew up in Beaumont where she married Tell V. McCoy, Jr. and lived until her retirement from Baptist Hospital, where she was employed as an LVN.

After retirement, Mrs. McCoy became interested in genealogy and proved relationships to various patriots which allowed her membership in The Colonial Dames, The Daughters of the Republic, The Daughters of the War of 1812, The Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper, a charter member of Calder Baptist Church of Beaumont and a member of the Eastern Star in Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Nannie Sims McLemore, five brothers and husband. Mrs. McCoy is survived by her only child, daughter Nan McCoy Kittell, two brothers Terry and Max McLemore seven grandchildren: Holly and Michael Stafford, Charles, Paul, Reagan, Winn and Camille Kittell; two greatgrandsons; Travis and Keith Kittell, many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Interment is at 10:30 am today at Zion Hill cemetery in Jasper where she joins her husband, parents, brothers, both sets of grandparents, one set of great grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Max L. McLemore, died November 17, 2005 at age 85. He was born March 31, 1920 in Jasper, Texas. Max resided in Beaumont most of his life and was a member of Maplecrest Baptist Church in Vidor. He served his country honorably with the 4th Marine Air Wing, USMC, throughout the Pacific during World War II. Max was retired from Rainbo Baking Company. Max is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Dorothy, and their son Marc; granddaughter, Wyndi Bean and six great grandchildren. Ivy Earl McLemore, a Teletype operator, traffic manager and proofreader for the Associated Press for 42 years, died Wednesday in a Jasper convalescent home after a 35-year battle with cancer. He was 84.

In 1968, McLemore was diagnosed with colon cancer. Over the ensuing years, he underwent three operations, but ultimately the cancer spread, said his son Ivy Bernard McLemore of Houston, former executive sports editor of the Houston Post.

An AP official once called Ivy Earl McLemore "the quickest and most accurate Teletype operator the AP had ever come across," his son said.

Although he was never a reporter or editor, McLemore had a keen eye for errors and omissions in news stories, and often helped the reporters improve their writing.

"He didn't write himself, but he knew excellent copy, and he was a great one for factual detail," his son said.

Born in Jasper, McLemore grew up in the family home which dated from 1888.

After graduating from Jasper High School in 1936, McLemore landed a job in the mail room of the Beaumont Enterprise. Shortly thereafter the AP hired him as a Teletype operator and wire clerk.

In 1940 he began working for the AP in Houston, where he served in the AP office in the Houston Chronicle newsroom.

He was there on Dec. 7, 1941, when Japanese planes bombed Pearl Harbor. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an air traffic controller. While stationed in Pampa, McLemore survived the crash of an Air Corps training plane. He later served in France and Italy.

McLemore witnessed the transformation of news writing from manual typewriters to electric typewriters and ultimately to computers.

Beginning in the 1950s, McLemore serviced AP Teletypes in offices of newspapers and radio and TV stations and other clients in the Houston area.

After he retired in 1979, McLemore returned to Jasper, where he lived on and farmed on 12 acres, known as Azalea Forest, growing tomatoes, okra, sugar cane, strawberries and other crops.

A talented gardener, he won prizes and awards at county and state fairs for his tomatoes, his son said.

His former wife, Carmen Albacete McLemore died in 1995.

Besides his son, McLemore is survived by two sisters, Irma Brauninger of Beaumont and Marie Hicks of Jasper; three brothers, John D. McLemore of Kemp, Tommie McLemore of Bartlett, Tenn, and Bobbie McLemore of Jasper.

Visitation will be from 10 am until noon Saturday, McLemore's birthday, at Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. The funeral will be at 2 pm Saturday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Jasper.

Annie Marie McLemore Hicks went to be with her Savior on Saturday, September 10, 2011. She was surrounded by her family, who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at Zion Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2011, at the funeral home. A lifelong Jasper resident, Marie was born on November 13, 1921, to Ivy A. and Kate McLemore. She was one of nine children, having six brothers and two sisters. She married S.C. 'Ted' Hicks on November 20, 1937. Marie and Ted were married for 66 years. Marie was a homemaker in her early years, later attending Piney Woods Business College and working for E.P. Hughes as a legal secretary. Her interest in land and knowledge of the Jasper area led her to become a realtor. She served thirty years in the Real Estate Industry, the last fifteen years as a partner with John Lanier in Lanier Hicks Real Estate of Jasper. She served as President of the Deep East Texas Board of Realtors, was an active member of the Newcomers Club, and Director of The Jasper Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. She and Ted developed a herd of cattle after retirement on the Sims, McLemore owned land in the Springhill Community of Jasper. She loved to travel, create art, quilting, and tending to her farm and cows. Most of all she loved her Lord and was strong in her faith in God, her family, the Jasper area and it's people. She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Hicks Thomas and husband, Robert Earl of Jasper, and Janette Hicks Clark and husband, Jerry of Buna; two brothers, John D. McLemore and Dr. Bobbie F. McLemore; four grandchildren, Todd Thomas and wife, Bridget of Houston, Jerilyn Walters and husband, Todd of Buna, Tedd Thomas of Brookeland, and Joel Clark and wife, Jo Della of Buna; six great grandchildren, Erin Thomas, Elise Thomas, Jacob Clark, Jessi Clark, Joseph Clark, and Hannah Walters. She is also survived by numerous other family and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, S.C. 'Ted' Hicks; four brothers, Tommie, J.W., Earl, and Hoy McLemore; two sisters, Irma Brauniger and Elsie Gilley. Tommie D. McLemore, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 18 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.

Services were held Jan. 21 at Memphis Funeral Home Gerrmantown Parkway Chapel with burial following at memory Hill Gardens.

He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines.

Written in response to an article about US 69 in Lumberton about a TxDOT project to construct a shoulder on a two lane highway

"In the early 1970s, I had the privilege of serving as the president of the Beaumont Salvation Army board. Also serving at that time were several astute community business men - Peter Wells , Ed Collins , Wes Callaway and Marcus Dougharty. We wanted to do everything and anything to improve the Boy's Club gym on Sabine Pass, which would require replacing it. Marcus Dougharty, our treasurer, and a banker by profession, said, "You can't do that."

"Why not?" we asked. "Because you do not have the money, and when your outgo is more than your income, your upkeep will be your downfall," he replied.
So we replaced some rotted timbers, shoveled up the old asphalt floor with shovels borrowed from the H.G. Nichols Co. and replaced the old floor.

So when we look at our economy remember the words of Marcus Dougharty, it still is as simple as that!"

(Research):Mary Susan Walden Moore emailed, on August 7, 2008, that when her mother, Ruby Lee Morgan "graduated from Kirbyville High School, she was a brain, but there was no money for college in those dark days of 1934. So her Mother (Minnie) suggested that she write to her Uncle Roy, the President of Paris Junior College, and ask for assistance. He wrote back and said that she could attend PJC, but she would have to work on campus. She could live with him and his family if she would help her aunt do housework, and help with the children. Those jobs would pay her tuition, and her room and board. He also made it clear in the letter that even though he was her uncle, he would not help her with her homework...she would have to do it on her own. Also, she would have to come up with transportation to get to Paris. She found out that a one way ticket to Paris was 100 dollars. She went around to all of the businessmen in Kirbyville and stated her case, and asked for a loan. When she had nearly given up hope, she courageously went to one of the more prominent professional men in town and stated her case with great passion, I am sure, because my Mom wanted to go to school so badly. He said, "Girly, I have loaned money to other girls in this town, and they have never paid me back, because they always get married and forget that they owe me money." She promised that she would not be like those other girls...and he loaned her the money. She said that train ride was so sad for her, because she had never been away from home before, and only had a oneway ticket. Uncle Roy was true to his word, and he never helped her, even though he was also her French teacher. She made Phi Theta Kappa while she was at PJC. Her brother Julian, who was later killed in WWII, dug stumps for a dollar a day, and sent her some of his wages. After she graduated in 1936, she moved to Houston, because there was no more money for further studies. She lived with her Aunt Emily McLemore Wilkinson, and she met my Dad, Lewis Walden, at church. When he asked her to marry him, she said yes, "but first I have to pay back the man in Kirbyville who loaned me 100 dollars to go to college."
And she did. She raised 3 kids, and went back to college in her forties, and earned her B.Ed. in Education when she was 49. Mom passed away in 2001."

Born in Jasper, Texas, Joe had lived in the area since 1961. He was a music director at Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Silsbee for eleven years and a Deacon for First Baptist Church in Silsbee.

He is survived by his wife, Sammie McLemore of Lumberton; children, LaDonna Ross and her husband Warren of Houston, Kenneth McLemore and his wife Lisa of Silsbee; grandchildren, Joseph Tracy and his wife ShaVonne; April McLemore LeBlanc and her husband Jason, Joshua Tracy, and Kenneth Cameron Milo; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Gayle McLemore, Greyson Kenna Harrison, and Kenneth Landyn McLemore; and eldest brother, Robert Lee McLemore and his wife Betty of Jasper.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

W. T. "Dub" Wood Jr

Wiliam Thomas "Dub" Wood Jr., 70, of Waco died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995.

Wood was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Pineland as a son of the late William Thomas Wood and Sarah Ann (Morgan) Wood and had lived in Beaumont several years before moving to Waco a year ago. He was a retired attorney, serving as Assistant District Attorney for Jefferson County in addition to several years in private practive before retiring in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a former Post Commander of American Legion Post #33, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the the Scottish Rite, and the Methodist church. Wood formerly served as president of the Beaumont Optimist Club.

Survivors: son, Brett Wood of Waco; a brother, Billy Wood of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sisters, Arnell Seymour of Leakey, Wilna Broussard of Grapevine, and Helen Towns of Cloudcraft, New Mexico; and three grandchildren, Brandi Wood, Will Wood, and Michael Wood, all of Waco.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kelley & Watkins Funeral Home chapel in Beaumont. Interment followed with 3 p.m. graveside rites at the Wood Cemetery near Pineland.

Wilna Wood Broussard came from a long line of Texas families. Her ancestors were some of the first settlers in Texas/Mexico before it became a Republic.

Wilna was born to William T. Wood and Sarah Ann McLemore Morgan in East Texas's Pineland. She had two sisters and three brothers.

Wilna was a painter. She belonged to the China Painters Guild and numerous other art societies. She used oils, pastels and watercolors on canvas. She sold some of her paintings to local art galleries in Oklahoma City and she sold her china painting pieces to boutique shops in the Midwest and Florida.

Wilna attended Beaumont High and then her family moved to Panama City, Florida and Georgia during WWII. Her father was a shipbuilder. Wilna worked for the USO during the war and was a secretary at a military HDQ in Cape Cod, MA for a few years.

After the war she returned to Beaumont where she met and married Weston J. Broussard. They had three daughters. The family lived in Beaumont where Weston was manager of International Cresote and Construction Company until 1968 when he took a job with Kerr McGee Oil Company and became Vice President of Kerr McGee Chemical. The family then moved to St. Louis, Missouri and then to the company's HDQ in Oklahoma City, OK. They lived there until retirement in 1987.

Wilna enjoyed being a homemaker and her china and canvas painting activities. She sold some of her painting to art galleries in OKC. She also enjoyed her activities at the Petroleum Club in OKD, of which she and Weston were members.

In 1987 upon retirement, Wilna and Weston moved to Grapevine, Texas to be near one of their daughters. The whole family enjoyed coming to visit "Meme and Papa" and barbequing and swimming in their backyard pool.

Wilna is preceded in death by her husband Weston, two sisters and two brothers. She has one surviving brother in North Carolina.

Wilna is survived by her daughters Anne (McFadden-Dan) of Iowa; Mary (Decato-Al) of Grapevine; and Jerri (Forrest-John) of Iowa. She has four grandchildren ? Robert, Erin, Brigitte, Cristie and two great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 pm.

Helen Ruth Morgan

Helen Ruth Morgan was born to Winnie Ora Davidson Morgan (USPS Post Master in Bronson, TX) and Jesse Monroe Morgan (owner of the only Texaco gas station in Bronson) on August 6 1926 in Bronson, Texas and passed away in West Point, Texas on August 19. 2015. She was their only child.

Ms. Morgan attended Bronson High School, there, she met Milton Carroll Johnson and in 1946 they married. Helen was married two other times but passed away a happy single woman. She spent her last 16 years in companionship with her dearest friend and roommate, Mary Jo Brown. They had become known around West Point as "Thelma and Louise." They were always ready to go dancing or to watch their favorite football teams (Cowboys and Longhorns). Laughter was their trademark.

Ms. Morgan received her Registered Nurse (RN) degree in the Army Corp during the final days of World War II. She was on the front lines during the tragic 1947 Texas City explosions and fires that devasted their community.

Her children are Carroll Monroe Johnson (deceased), with the surviving children being Dwayne (Butch) Edward Johnson of San Antonio, Tx, Ronald (Pete) Anthony Johnson of West Point, TX, and her only daughter Sydna Johnson of West Point, TX, along with 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

May she rest in peace with a smile on her lips, laughter in her heart, and dances in her step.
